There is absolutely nothing stopping you from staying in Level 5

    You have a choice

    In hospital: 289
    In ICU: 33

Isnt that around the same as when L5 started?

    Yep.

Hospital and ICU is much delayed from case numbers.

I think the high point of cases is about 10 days after level 5. The high point in terms of hospital and ICU numbers were quiet a bit after level 5 came in.

Often hospital admission is 10-15 days after the cases happen and ICU admission a few days after that.

So I wouldn't really have expected hospital and ICU numbers to have fallen massively.

Just when I thought my feelings on Nphet and Tony Holahan couldn't go any lower. The worry index no less :D

Just watching the news conference, the news talk journalist stating they've been inundated with worried parents about the shortage of flu vaccine, the response from the rather irratating HSE doctor was extraordinary, I'm not aware of this, have parents contacted their Gp"s?

Maybe she's is not checking news bulletins, newspaper reports, there's clearly a shortage or at least a supply issue. Just extraordinary response

Yeah he is saying the 'worry index' in the population has dropped and it concerns him.

Funniest thing I've heard all day

Tony is saying he is concerned that his surveys are showing people aren't worried enough.

Why would any supposedly professional health “expert” want people to be worried and anxious(one of the most destructive psychological conditions) ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,043 ✭✭✭Polar101

So what actually happened was that Tony was showing results from their ongoing survey which asks people things like how concerned they are, do they think the worst is yet to come or if it is behind us, and what protective measures they are taking.

The levels of concern were similar to July now. But Tony didn't say anything about being concerned about it.

Maybe we are seeing differing newspaper reports.

Just yesterday the Times had an article about how GPs were shocked by the lack of uptake of the children's flu vaccine and this morning a number of papers carried reports about the Irish pharmacist Union saying that the free children's flu vaccine should be extended to teenagers as children were not taking it up.

Nice to see the numbers down a great bit and no deaths as well.

The numbers are not backing him up so he has invented a new gauge to measure things "The Worry-O-Meter". Can we see this Worryometer, Tony or is just the voices in your head telling you that?

If people are not anxious there will be a spike in cases.

Absolutely pathetic- highlights what a two bit nothing he is. Any serious scientific person would be embarrassed to be referring to such fluffy crap. Presume the “survey “ is fully published and accessible?!

Tony said "the next two weeks are crucial in order for us to get to the stage where we're scared out of our wits again".

That was the shortest press conference for a while. I suppose the encouraging news doesn't bring as many questions from journalists..

The worry index. Was that a NHEPT Press Conference or a Monty Python sketch.

He is surveying the wrong people. I and others I know are taking this very seriously.

Australians took this very seriously and they are turning a corner. They are going to be allowed to live life relatively normally and have a proper Christmas.

If our government implemented quarantine measures with arrivals before cases reached down into communities and if we all took the virus seriously and followed the plan and guidelines layed out to avoid crowds and gatherings and keep distance away from others and other households, we would be in a better place now and coming into the Christmas.

Thats not what i picked up from the Twitter clip.
He doesn't say it exactly but he implies that he is concerned that if people aren't worried they will drop their guard and that ultimately means cases will rise. So I'd say he is concerned, he wants people to be fearful otherwise we can't be trusted to stop the virus.

"We don't want people to be worried".

You do Tony, admit you derive great satisfaction from it. More worry there is in the general population, more receptive they will be to your stark message of despair.

It's slipping from under him thankfully, and the Government should give NPHET the inverted peace sign on Wednesday.

I'm actually getting optimistic about Christmas, never again will we experience a dreary November like this one. Good riddance to it, and Tony getting the boot would be a mighty bonus.

And where is Australia's open border with another country?

I find it a lot more worrying that when Dr Ro Ro was asked about numbers of deaths in Nursing homes of late he 'didn't have those figures in front of him'.

Tony is saying he is concerned that his surveys are showing people aren't worried enough.

It’s human nature, something our supreme leader Tony Holohan doesn’t appreciate.

A horror movie isn’t terrifying when you’ve seen it over a dozen times.

From personal observation it appears that a large proportion of the country have decided to get on with life, including many people in the at risk groups.

This is just a fact. Whether Tony or the pro lockdown people on here agree or not.

The lockdown card has been overplayed, the only thing it is really achieving now is the negative collateral damage. Perhaps it’s time for the experts to come up with more creative solutions then repeatedly demanding to shutdown the country.

So 101 cases from October only reported in the last 14 days

He should know them without having to look. Disgraceful.
