Thankfully appears to still be no noticeable increase in suicide rates occurring due to lockdown, similar announcement made by Samaritans earlier in the lockdown during late Spring, so it's remaining consistent. Thought by this stage the isolation and loneliness might have been getting to some people after the novelty wore off but great to see this although it is a bit surprising, woul d have expected at least a minor increase especially because of the financial contraits and job losses.

Well, confirms my earlier suspicions that the discussion that crops up sometimes on threads about rising suicide rates was insincere concern and just being used for political reasons to try and dismiss restrictions by some, really sad that some posters would stoop to the level of using such a tragic thing as suicide for political points.

Are there any vaccine trials happening in Ireland? I would love to get on board with a trial.

Since you've edited your post I'm going to reply a second time.

First of all, another poster (Strumms) posted figures on this thread last month showing that suicide rates had not increased recently.

I don't think anyone's expressed concern was some fake political gambit, you have no way of knowing that it was - you're just saying that.

Well guess what? No one owes YOU the benefit of the doubt that you are acting from good motives. And you won't get it if you're throwing around accusations at people who disagree with you.

Which crank was it this time?

I would be surprised given our low rates.

Hm. Considering the regularly expressed concern about increased suicide rates and effects on mental health by multitudes of posters on here daily you'd think there would be some relief conveyed by at least some of those who regularly voice those particular worries . Met with radio silence. Hard not to read into that really

I reject your interpretation which is unsound. You are trivialising and trying to drain of meaning real concerns based on some arbitrary standard of liking or enthusing over a forum post.

Like I said, why should anyone believe that you yourself are uncorrupt? Who knows what your real motives are.

It's not an interpretation, it's just the reality of the fact a much discussed concern on here went completely quiet once information came to light that should allay those fears. My motives, what does it matter in this instance, just pointing out this perplexing reaction(or lack of reaction)

Mainstream media pushing the narrative that lockdowns might work. Great that we are in a better position for now. Not so much a casedemic in Italy.

South Australia has just implemented a 6 day preventive circuit breaker as a particularly virulent European strain infected a medi-hotel cleaner and has caused a knock on of 22 cases. They managed to contact trace 4000 contacts in 24 hrs but want to avoid a Europe/Victoria cluster fuck so advising of absolute minimal personnel movement for 6 days.

All other states has closed off borders.

This strain has an incubation period of just 3 days per generation.

The impact of these restrictions will be felt for years to come. Don’t dismiss the risks to mental health, deprivation, poverty etc based on a few months of data.

I might not be a fan of our current Level and lockdown but Christ I am glad to live in Ireland when you read this kind of madness. Outdoor exercise, even on your own, even within close proximity to your house is banned.

Supposedly Government Ministers and backbenchers have looked to curtail the ever growing political rhetoric coming from NPHET. Too fûcking right as well.
They keep going with lockdowns and shuttering businesses they then should be put on the PUP payment to see what it’s like getting €1500 a month instead of €16,000 a month!!

We should do that and take him off his pedestal. No need for him to be on television talking sh*te every second day to scare people. Release numbers to the media and let it be done. The media look for any little thing he says for a doom and gloom headline. Enough is enough.

Thats zero covid strategy for you. It looks very clever until that day when over a single case you have to shutdown an entire city/state/nation. Forever hanging over you...

It might be factually correct but maybe they should report on that close on 25% on numbers yesterday were health care workers. The tone of Tony Holahans tweets and sound bites are constantly blaming the man and woman on the street.

Is there a press conference later?

If so, I have to ask what the point is at this stage?

No answers are really giving to the questions asked. All they do is give out the numbers, which they release to the media any other day of the week. Same soundbytes over and over again from them

Is it an ego thing with them? Perhaps it is with Holohan as he loves the camera. I don't know, I just don't see the point at this stage.
