A large amount of cases in hospital right now were diagnosed in hospital.

Has the age group 15-24 not seen the largest increase in cases at 86?

I'm with you on the schools issue, but just wondering would school transmission be hidden from the data because of the kids being asymptomatic and therefore not tested?

They will be tested as close contacts if they bring it home. Data is clear that they are not.

People need to stop blaming NPHET, they are not the ones spreading the virus. If restriction continue longer than expected that's because of selfish people who cannot follow basic rules to stop the spread.

    This.

So are you saying that everyone who has got the virus or has spread it, is a selfish person who can't follow basic rules.

    The data should be public.

On this point, there seems to be a definite strategy now of selectively withholding information from public viewing. Information which used to be available to the public

Interesting with the schools only open a week. I know it can take up to 7 days for symptoms to appear but looks like the 2nd week off is now hitting.

Cases in age groups 0-24 and 65+ occurred at virtually the exact same rate in the last week.

    0-24 873 / 16.31 = 53.5

    65+ 358 / 7.2 = 49.7

One difference - 0-24 is decreasing, 65+ is increasing.

If people are too precious to hear a few home truths that’s their look out imo. You’d hope society would realise that the longer people f-ck around with the restrictions, the longer the restrictions will be in place.
Whatever about going to level 2/3 if we get to 100 cases per day, I can’t see anything opening up if we’re still at around 400 tbh.

    The Ministry of Tony Holohan

Cases are increasing in hospitals, workers in healthcare, and people in their 80s yet, funerals and people who are doing everything possible to keep the numbers down are the things he blames.

Now, I can't speak for anyone else but, I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who read it and thought, "you spoofing tosser!"
I'm also pretty certain people will read it and become increasingly frustrated and fed up to the point where they'll throw their hat at it

Well there you go. NPHET and the HSE seem to be not reporting hospital outbreaks. But sure it’s our fault cases are rising due to negligence in hospitals and nursing homes

The hospital outbreaks occurred way more than even the media reported.

I know for a fact there was at least 200 cases in the CUH alone in the past month.

Just listening to a expert in the field there on BBC world news who is saying the restrictions in Europe aren't enough and it will be next October at the earliest before life can return to normal. People need to prepare themselves mentally now for a very difficult few months ahead.

Surely the vaccine(s) will be in widespread circulation well before that?

Probably the best post I’ve seen in this thread. Nail on the head. Logic and rational left the conversation when the government didn’t even give Level 3+ time to materialise. Even if cases remained slightly too high, additional nuanced measures could have been introduced based on where we were seeing significant spread still occurring.
But we're in level five for nearly four weeks now, what good would more level 3 have been?

Wishing for this outcome won't make it more likely to happen but I guess you are going to give it a go

I'm starting to worry that the puritanism approach to the lockdown may be backfiring. When you take a look at the outbreak stats, outbreaks in private homes are by far the dominating factor and all the other outbreaks are fairly trivial in comparison. Main reason the first lockdown was successful imo was we had great weather and long days so there was plenty of opportunity for people to have their social contact needs met in relatively safe environments. Despite all the curtain twitchers losing their **** over photographs of people have picnics in parks, people were doing exactly what they were supposed to, choosing a safe environment to meet instead of high-risk indoor environments. Now with level 5 and any sort of controlled and managed fun activities forbidden, we're seeing people being pushed behind closed doors to socialise with disastrous results. They seriously need to go back to the drawing board and say "right, these things: a game of golf, a stroll in the Wicklow mountains, a bike ride, retail shopping with mask and other control measures, these are relatively safe, let's allow them and give people a distraction from sitting at home drinking".

Failing that, actually police the house gatherings instead of continuing to further punish business owners who have mostly been doing the right thing.

This is spot on. We learned a lot about the virus between March and October and it's looking like we didn't make the most of this knowledge during the second surge. The emphasis should have moved away from asking for patriotic sacrifices from people and towards allowing the public to meet their social needs in the safest ways possible.

What are you on about? The schools have been open since the end of August and only closed one week for midterm at the end of October

Sad, but certainly not surprising that the man with a reputation for trying to cover things up is now trying to cover up outbreaks in hospitals and nursing homes.

So the rising incidence in older people means we must now blame older people?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,129 ✭✭✭✭Spanish Eyes

First off, I am not anti vaccine at all.

However I hope the rollout will not take forever either. And then again it is (early days yet) only 90% effective on the latest data.

We have to be realistic, but continue to have hope. It will take longer than many think to get back to any kind of normal. Those who observed the restrictions for the sake of everyone will be wary for a long time.

The on street party goers are the vectors as are schoolkids IMO. Both cohorts more than likely asymptomatic. But I still hope for the best, and will do my best. Life is ok, can cope. Thanks for asking!

Sorry, but the majority are not following the restrictions. Almost no one is following the 5k rule and limiting visitors as per the rules. There is a great pretence going on.

Christ lads I'm not getting any of the invites to all these so called restriction-breaking events. Feel very left out.
