One of the most tragic cases to come out of this pandemic was actor Nick Cordeo, when I want to be reminded how lethal covid can be, I think Cordeo's case always comes back me, diagnosed positive in March he was hospitalised on 30th and spent 3 months in hospital, he had to get his right leg amputated in April 18th due to a blood clot caused by the virus and in May he had to get a tracheostomy as his lungs were affected and he finally kicked the bucket in July 5th at the age of 41. To me anyway, that was a bloody long stretch in hospital and he has to be one of the most unluckiest victims of this virus. So yep I taking this bloody vaccine, saying that, that is a real worse case scenario regarding Cordeo.

Down the line, if you dont take the vaccine if it is readily available and are not taking measures to protect yourself, hand washing, mask wearing, social distancing etc. and you get covid, will the treatment you receive in hospital be still free or will you have to have private insurance or a medical card. Will you be paid unemployment benefit if you get covid and cant work........Just wondering

Sure the gardai could always move groups on under public order legislation, didn't need any new powers to do so and I don't think they have any new powers unless its an organised event.

People drinking pints outside has been going on a good while so don't see a problem with it myself tbh

And I thought they do now have the powers to stop gatherings , which is what I was posting about ,
not people sitting on a wall having a pint ?

Ah you'll have the usual gobshxxx jumping on this to say leave the kids alone blah .
Some of these groups are more than just " drinking pints outside " which I have no problem with by the way , just keep your distance and keep in mind that businesses and hospitals and everyone else is depending on this lockdown to bring down numbers .
A little more effort from some is all that is being asked .

By the way not calling you a gobshxxx , edit :0

Yup fully get where your coming from here.

    Haha no worries

It is a pain and an inconvenience I agree .
But they need to show some solidarity towards those other businesses that are not allowed trade .
It would be a disgrace if big companies like Dunnes and Tesco were allowed trade completely as normal with non essential items on sale in these circumstances .
It's not as if we won't be able to buy these items in a few weeks time .

Problem is, a lot of people will not wait to see if we will actually be allowed to buy these non esential things and money has been flying out of the economy as people buy from amazon etc. Great own goal by the government, solidarity over economy. We can’t eat that.....,,, but we have to suck it up. Ridiculously ill thought out.

Wasn't the point of the lockdown to stop hospitals from being overwhelmed which seems to be working quiet well.

It’s a train wreck now watching this. I could have told them myself that lockdown wouldn’t work without everything closed and huge public support.

People are voting to move on. Destroying the economy is a waste of time at this point.

I think the public need a quick explaination as to the exact cause for the very recent rise in cases

I'll explain it quickly so. It's rising because a large number of people are ignoring the regulations partially or completely.

Any metrics I have seen and I am not a financial head ;) we are going to be ok , and certainly not economically down the toilet as some keep saying here.
Government able to borrow as much as they need to buy our way out of this , interest rates zero and our debt is being underwritten by EU along with every other European country .
A lot of people buy from Amazon at this time of year every year anyway ,and I know a lot of people are trying to buy Irish as much as possible .
Government had no choice , are you for real ? Look at the rest of the world?

There are also a lot of businesses still open (pubs, restaurants) where staff are coming in every day. Not all wearing masks and in a small enclosed space.

You may be right, however need hard evidence to pin point exactly where rises are occurring

I think the point of this lockdown is to get the numbers down to as low as possible before the Christmas because NHPET and the government anticipate an increase in close contacts and gatherings. Its better to go into the Christmas period with low numbers than higher case numbers.

There's also taxi drivers going around without face masks with a plastic screen behind them but it's not a tightly sealed screen blocking the front from the back. Foggy windows in their cars so that's their warm breath filling up their car and not a window open. And if they're infected and pick up passengers. It's beyond me how masks haven't been made mandatory in all workplaces.

The point of restrictions is to protect the health service.
    No other reason.
    Conclusion: It's working.

I passed a place being renovated yesterday, two staff inside not wearing masks. Next door, a takeaway. Same story.

I thought they were but it seems to be guidelines only , which as Mr Musician rightly said , are not being adhered to .

Will people not cop on ..this is why L3 was dropped for L5 ?

If these restrictions are not adhered to we will not be getting out of this until we have vaccines , and then not even , if you have some fools not getting vaccinated.

That part is correct as regards hospitalisation.
However the other poster is correct about the other reason , as you know , so I don't know why you say that ?
Case numbers were too high to be going into the Christmas season with and their aim is to get them as low as possible so when they inevitably go up in the New Year, we are not catapulted straight back into another crisis .

I think if it was any other time of the year we'd have the exact same restrictions, to be honest. Hospitals were beginning to feel a bit of stress.

HSE goes on about distancing. So businesses aren't doing anything wrong by distancing and barriers. If they go against HSE advice, it can become a liability issue. The HSE needs to cut the crap and make masks mandatory in all indoor work areas.

The HSE should concern them selves with ensuring mask compliance in clinical work places first and foremost.

Public Health messages need to be clearer and more firm when it comes to the general public. I firmly believe communication on all COVID19 related issues is dismally abysmal. As an example only: Instead of "Don't wear masks" to "Wear masks" I think there should be brief explanations on why we did that turn around and give a brief summary of evidence/research as seen on the international scale which influenced these turn arounds. This could be done through ads or even every month in briefings.
