Where did you get the 21st from? I'm in Dublin and was hoping to get back once restrictions ended but if people want Christmas so much, would think they'd go along with it? Because I think some people want to be opened up for whole month which doesn't seem like it will be on the cards realistically.

Everyone is speculating at the moment, just go to where you need to go, once level 3 comes into play the Garda checkpoints will be all but gone, might pop up every now and then but it won't be anything major

He's not the only person saying it. The Danes say vaccines are effective against it.
    https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2020/11/12/vaccine-works-against-covid-mink-mutation-in-early-testing

"Whether this also applies to other vaccines and whether it applies to human antibodies, we do not know,” Fomsgaard said.

Slight increase in postive swabs today.

    523 from 11,610, 4.5%

Community referrals still lower than last week. It'll be interesting to see what counties report higher numbers today, 3 hospitals could be causing issues here along with border counties. We'll see with the county data probably.
It does indeed appear that a lot of cases this week are not from the community.

523 positive swabs. 4.5% positivity rate.

Well the 21st is the Monday before Christmas. If Martin says different rules for the week of Christmas that is what he means.

Possibly but lot of people travel down weekend before too so I think it's all speculation at this point really until there's official word in hopefully 2 weeks time.

    Christmas week is the 21st

That would mean level three up until then

Realistically the best we can hope for is level three up to the 14th then travel eased until the new year

Its pure guesswork at this point, your more likely to see a mix of things i would think. People will travel once 5 is lifted

Don't be surprised if Donegal has a large enough number today. They were almost hinting at it in the briefing yesterday. Every other county is decreasing rapidly.

Community referrals and swabs all down on last week

Yeah I listened to the interview myself, just didn't take away that it was very definitive. Was asked by interviewer if 2 levels could be possible in run up to Christmas, effectively seemed to be not ruling it out or in really.

He's hinted at a mix a few times now. The plan is long gone out the window, they'll mix in whatever they see fit into any of the levels at this stage

    Return to school affecting numbers?

Very disappointing. Hopefully, it's related to an increase in Donegal rather than an increase across the board.

HSE and GPs all reporting decreasing demand for community testing week on week which to me points towards other areas.

Yeah, that's why i think it's impossible to secondguess as there's been so many changes to levels as is, ideally they want it to be nationwide but not a guarantee if Donegal is still bad. Hopefully all will come clearer this day 2 weeks sure.

    Yes I heard it myself

The week of Christmas was quite explicit for me

    Different rules for then

He could have said the two weeks or weeks leading up to Christmas but he didn't

It's not an off the cuff remark for me

That's the plan even if it's not set in stone

Hard to see how we get to 100 from here tbh

Yeah Donegal a problem, was referenced alot at yesterday's press conference, Dublin in line with national picture and falling rapidly, Donegal only seeing around a 6% drop since level 5. Border counties going to be an issue going forward until NI get some control

Prof Nolan seemed to be quite confident if not bullish about it yesterday that it would happen.

100 or less seemed ambitious to me in a relatively short space of time but we'll see

    That's an important point.
I find it hard to see how we get the border counties down with Northern Ireland in such a state.

If we were serious we should have done proper lockdown for 3 weeks

None of this allowing construction and schools to continue

I fear we’ve reached the limit of these measures

Probably a lot who won't have either tbf. People on different visas and students etc.

Not sure is it open to all of them to return if needed or not.

Yes, this is the case. Even a long term work or student visa is not enough to get back in.

Are hospitals the new meat plants?

Very unlikely. It would correspond to an increase in community referrals.

As others have said, I'd be inclined to look towards specific areas; the border counties and outbreak hotspots (like nursing homes) before any other potential factors.

Substantial increase in excess deaths observed among 26 monitored EU countries over the last few weeks , but nothing close to what was seen in April. Looks like about a quarter of the excess deaths seen then
