EU Law - does anyone know where the law stands for EU students studying in non member states as regards grants etc?

Did Grzelczyk essentially overturn Lair and Brown regarding the need to have work in the same field as study prior to starting the course? And Blaziot and Gravier regarding the need for vocational tranining?

I'm totally confused and my notes/manuals are not at all helpful with clearing up my confusion!!

I did this on frustration and whether that would discharge obligations under the contract (using that case from wwii with the reservoir) etc and said that there was no frustration as it wasn’t impossible to still carry out the contract, just more expensive. & then the Williams v Roffey case for the payment to finish on time being good consideration. Also threw in a line about duress because if he demanded payment that might have been duress. Not confident though because it seemed that frustration came up in a few places on the paper, I studied it last night so maybe I was just happy to see something that looked like it!

Yikes. I answered relating to consideration and a little on frustration. I didnt give too much on discharge by breach. ..

Hopefully they also let us know what dates they are thinking of for the next sitting. I wonder will they be on a month later or the same time as usual

They absolutely need to clarify early on if they are going to proceed with these online exams or try again and hold them physically. They need to tell us long before applications open aswell because this "October" sitting was a disaster organisation-wise.

I did mine on frustration/past consideration!

Anyone who attempted Q1 did you also say that Cormac made a mistake a reasonable person ought to have known of and knowledge of his unilateral mistake would be imputed on Rebecca. Also for the Tom section I said she made an innocent misrepresentation, and despite the fact that the statement did form part of the contract I talked about how their positions to verify were differing in that Tom was an avid fan of that particular Marvel artist and was in a better position to verify.

Do you think a lot of Mark's would be lost for getting the name wrong:( I think I said tom throughout ugh

I don’t think so once you identified the issues in the Q I doubt you’d lose much marks for advising the wrong person, you’d essentially be telling them the same thing anyway!

Maybe so, remind me what cormacs role was if you wouldn't mind? It's crazy how fast it left my brain.

I found it difficult to time0 too with correcting all my grammar

I think it was Cormac who mistakenly offered the 500 instead of 50? Same brain is mush

I can't say for certain about what number of marks but they are quite critical of advising the wrong person, even if it is just a mistake of someone's name.

Does anyone know if traineeships are less likely to accept you if you failed an FE1 exam, pretty sure I just failed contract law as I was completely burnt out. I wrote ‘in this decision’ instead of case names for some answers and didn’t even cite any cases for another question. Feeling super disappointed in myself and now I’m thinking I’ll never get a traineeship cuz of this.

Loads accept people and offer contracts without having even any done yet, so I think maybe you can take solace that its not important! :)

    So anyways onwards to EU;
A101 and 102 - could only ans that one exact Q on concerted practice etc and one or more undertakings
Mergers - if I was unbelievably stuck
    Judicial review
    MS liability/DE
    FMOG- 34&36
FMOW/Citizens - relying heavily on legislation
    Gen principles
    Institutions

Not at all don’t worry, so many people have had to do repeats of these exams. As long as you don’t spend years and years it shouldn’t make much of any difference if you had to do a repeat or two (If it puts your mind at ease I failed one last sitting and was still offered a traineeship - as long as you get them done before blackball you’re grand). And you might have done better than you think too, better you covered the right points than just listed a load of cases - you never know with these exams so don’t write it off til you get the results :)

My firm said specifically that they don't mind if a person fails! Sometimes the exam just goes badly, nobody will blame you for it once you keep going

Pretty much exactly what I'm doing except I'm switching out Mergers with State Aid.

Does anyone have a paragraph on the ordinary and special legislative processes? My notes go on for pages and pages and I can't figure out how I'm supposed to reference it casually in the exam. Also, what is the significance of comitology? My notes have no reference to it but I see it in the exam reports.

Can someone guide me on the following subjects on which are the shortest, and most straightforward ones?

    - Criminal
    - Company
    - EU
    - Equity
    - Constitutional

What order would you put them in? Yes I'm nuts but I'm already looking toward what I'm going to be doing for the rest of the year so that I'm prepared for March 2021. It's not like there's anywhere to go to celebrate getting some more exams done...

It'll be different for everyone but for me, it'd be (easiest to most difficult): EU, Criminal, Equity, Company, Cons.

Criminal is shortest and most straightforward but you need to cover the entire course. There is no room to leave anything out.

Equity is the next shortest but it can be difficult and the pass rate is the lowest.

Company is next, I quite like it as a subject. Not the easiest but definitely not the hardest.

EU and Constitutional are both large subjects. I prefer EU 1000% (although we'll see how I feel after tomorrow...) but I just think it is way more clear cut than constitutional and you'll see from recent discussion in the thread that the exam is pretty straightforward in terms of what is asked etc. Also has the highest pass rate.

If I was to take up company... how many topics would I need and what would they be?

Not entirely answering the q as I don’t have a grid, but i used a book called ‘make that grade’ for company law and just expanded on a couple of topics using the examiners reports and it made company really doable. The book looks so childish lol but I’d recommend as it makes the topics so manageable and covers all key cases, you can pick up the pieces it doesn’t cover from the reports

Personally I found company easier. The examiner essentially copies and pastes questions, sometimes not even changing the names of the people. So it’s easy to spot how the questions will unfold. The Companies Act is big but at least it’s there for you to reference off. However, dry as .. and was a bit like learning a new language (personally).
Contract mixes topics and is all over the shop picks and pulls legislation from my arse. Found the sales and goods legislation terribly outdated.

    Yeah.. Company +1

Are people covering free movement of services / freedom of establishment in detail or just vaguely in case thrown in a PQ with FMOW

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 87 ✭✭FE1Rookie

If someone has an exam grid for any of EU, Company, Constitutional, Equity, or Criminal that would be greatly appreciated and I can help you out with any materials for Contract, Property, or Tort in return. I'd really like to get started on the next FE1 sitting as soon as possible and an exam grid is my starting point so I can narrow down topics early

Is anyone else a little frustrated that law firms are interviewing/sending out PFOs during the fe1s?
