It's great to see the numbers shrinking but I'll remain sombre for another two weeks just in case the schools drive the numbers back up.

It's a reasonable compromise seeing as only 3 countries get any kind of a pass at present.

anyone traveling here should have a negative test cert before they board the aircraft.

They should be obliged to isolate and that should be checked. They should be heavily fined if they leave their quarantine. They should be then tested after 5 days. All this should be at their expense.

If we're not going to enforce this (and we won't) this is just Covid theatre.

Test people in the airport or don't bother. Most reasonable people will be quite happy to take a test.

Why? Seems fairly reasonable to me. It's in everyone's interests. If I was travelling from a red zone I'd want to be sure I wasn't asymptomatic but carrying virus before visiting family or friends. When it could have been having to restrict movements for 14 days it seems a small price to pay. Effectively paying for 9 days, time is money too and all that

    16 deaths reported. 270 cases.

Not mentioned yet what time period they are reporting the deaths from.

Edit: 14 being reported from November, 1 October and 1 under investigation

Would someone please explain to me what swabs are v Positive tests. I know it’s obvious to those who know, but to me, not so much. Thanks!

Exact same number of cases 2 days in a row so. Relatively a lot of deaths sadly.

The unfortunate outcome of the weeks of high cases one would suspect.

Cases announced almost bang on swabs for last 2 days as well so we should be getting a fairly accurate picture now on cases.

Positive swab is a test that has come back positive.

A confirmed case is a person who has tested positive, for the first time.

The difference is that there may be people who get multiple positive tests, but they're still only counted as one case.

Why was there such a death backlog today? 14 from November? Hardly all occurred in the last few days did they considering the last few days have been 1-2 deaths usually iircc

Yeah say you're right, always a lag in deaths but hopefully means deaths will decrease over next while.

A jump in deaths. Confirmed cases around the same as the swab count which hasn't happened to often recently.

82 in Dublin. Better than yesterday, but still a bit higher than I would like.

Seems to be a significant jump in deaths? Any reason for that?

    Of the cases notified today:

123 are men and 147 are women
56% are under 45 years of age
the median age is 42 years old
82 in Dublin, 21 in Donegal, 18 in Roscommon, 17 in Limerick, 17 in Tipperary and the remaining 115 cases are spread across 20 other counties

I reckon they were holding a few deaths back to get a nice shock number in there. Make it easier to justify no 4 week review.

Great to see Cork moved to the "remaining" list!

It really is incredible how quickly the numbers are coming down. Well done to the people of Ireland

Why would they keep these restrictions longer than needed?
Larger case numbers a few weeks coupled with untraceable community spread would lead to more deaths unfortunately.

Nah, anyone with 2 functioning eyes can see they massage the numbers to feed into their narrative.

It is up to each family to report the deaths, not NPHET or the HSE. Hence the occasional cases from months ago as they have three months to do it. Blame Irelands laws rather then them purposely making a backlog

Ah come on, this sort of thing is said almost every day of every week since April. The number has to actually be announced at some stage you know. A random tuesday one third into phase 5 is not exactly conventional scare tactics is it

At least it's not stuck at 170 any more.
