People signed up to this lockdown as it was time limited

Pubs will have to be opened at least in some limited way for December or the government will lose the people

People just need to do what they’re told, not “sign up” to things.

Pubs should be given a chance to trade in December in thus letting people enjoy life but pub/enjoyment and covid go hand in hand in the world of NPHET and they will suggested 'keep them shut' in which MM and co will bow down too

As already said level 3 with outside/smoking area seating will just not cut it esp for the time of year. FFS laughing stock of Europe we will be. Also Level 3 has it challenges

15 max numbers is such a headache for places esp smaller places that are lucky enough to have room outside

The lone drinker along with couples would find it hard to get somewhere

From my experince the level 2 style openings were great and not as much a problem finding anywhere. Lets hope a middle ground is found and they can operate indoors in December. Could we see an order in say 'All pubs must be closed Stephens day/New Years Eve/New Years day

Exactry, imagine having to sit outside in December in the evening and it can get to below freezing, people will catch a cold and then panic and think it's the virus, it's sheer lunacy.

you don't catch a cold from being cold, you catch it from someone else the the same way you catch covid lol

As many people have already mentioned, the knock on effect from lock downs will be far more devstating that covid 19 will ever be, it doesnt take a virologist or economist to predict this.

Pubs better be open on the 1st of December or else.

That's my scientific view on the scenario.

    Hello.

You are incorrect in your understanding on this point. Keeping public houses even when cases decrease to containable levels will be one of several measures essential to keeping the virus suppressed.

The goal is to avoid big swings in suppression measures, and a return to the Level 2 type position as attempted during the summer is now known, and importantly, widely understood by the general public, to be unsustainable, and leads to requirement to increase controls to L4 or L5.

The government clearly wishes, understandably, to avoid this if at all possible. Advice is that a medium to long term variant of L3 is the best strategy to that end.

Hello, Hi, Howdy, Well, Good Afternoon.

You started off posting in a normal fashion on the site and then started with this drivel and acting like your part of decisions the government make.

    Its sad really.

Anyway back on topic good results today and hopefully the schools won't drive up the numbers. Christmas wont be the same without a few pints.

It makes sense to think about pubs being a source of spread; drunk people struggling to socially distance. But the key point is that there is no actual data to back this claim up. It is disturbing that the decision to close pubs and keep them closed was based on what is effectively a hunch.

    You need data?

My data is a lifetime of skulling pints and losing the run of myself.

Sure look if the pubs dont reopen for christmas there is always a few local shebeens to go too ;)

I presume you don't look left and right before crossing a road because there is no data that it reduces risk.

Been a born again, you don't mind pub never to open.

If numbers are low at Christmas and pubs are closed that is exactly what will happen. I am sure they will be controlled environments with plenty social distancing. I reckon NPHET will recommend keeping pubs closed until the very end.

if someones immune system is very weak they will catch a cold outdoors if the weather is bad,.

That 6+ months option is looking fairly conservative at the moment. It could be next summer before pubs open (with restrictions) by the look of things at the moment.

Covid cases going down nicely. I'd say we'll have Restaurants and food pubs open when current 5 week Lock-down is concluded. In other words we'll go back to Level 3.

    Probably have wet pubs open
    (Level 2) before Christmas.

Dont know if your serious or having a laugh but lets imagine your serious. Only if they are in the vacinity of someone who has the virus. You do not and I repeat, do not, catch the common cold virus from just cold weather!

Level 3 is outdoor only so no pubs or restaurants unless 15 outside

Up to and including outdoor only. But the 5 level plan has never been either 5 levels or a plan, so who knows, I'm not getting my hopes up for Christmas eve pints anyway.

MM and Leo should tell him in no uncertain terms to f*ck off. Two days now where consecutive case numbers are under 300, one-quarter the tallies of three weeks ago. We have made the necessary sacrifices, now the Government need to hold up their end of the bargain. The pubs simply have to re-open on December 1st, subject to social distancing guidelines. Most of these businesses are hanging on by a thread, rates and bills don't disappear behind closed doors. And the mental health of people throughout Ireland is being pushed to breaking point, most of us have had quite enough of Tony's glorified power trip and will rise up accordingly if reasonable concessions are not made soon.

No, they really won't. Maybe a satirical hashtag if we're really angry...

I think MM and LEO will do their best to open up for Christmas.

If the cases are steadily below 100 and R number around 0.5 on December 1st I think they will open up to Level 2 with strict rules for Bars/Restaurants, I would say tables will be limited to 4/6, table service only, only a mix of 3 families etc...

I think they should open all retail (Level 3 without pubs/resaurants) on 26 November and go to Level 2 for December 7th.
