Its also very dangerous . Playing with people emotions at a time like this could be a tipping point for someone
I am astonished it’s allowed carry on

There seems to be a " comedy" profile every week on this thread. Wouldn't surprise me if it was Boards themselves creating these profiles

And he was ultimately proven right. Look at the Czech Rep, look at Poland. We are avoiding a massive second wave sweeping Europe because of the lockdowns

Czech Republic is only having its first wave now.

Hello. Unfortunately we will not have L2 for December, but on the other hand, in a sense a better and more bespoke suite of measures aimed specifically at enabling the most sensitive family elements traditional at Christmas. A very specific variant of Level 3 with a schedule laid out in advance to enable people to best plan and enjoy their holiday season.

OK, continue with this line of alleged inside knowledge and I'll threadban you (from each thread in which you do so)

Some very interesting quotes in that article. Also surprising as the virus was out of control when level 5 was eventually called.

Can mass travel into the country be permitted? (Can it really be stopped, is the question some people have asked)

It would be so unfortunate if all our hard work was undone again by large numbers of people returning home for Christmas from countries with higher incidence rates.

I would be in favour of no access unless you can prove a negative test before arriving. Very few people are going to have the luxury of spending 14 days self isolating if they are only here for the Christmas period.

My sister is currently living in Budapest so don't @ me with "people are entitled to spend Christmas with their family"

One negative of this vaccine news is that returning to the office is on the horizon, so while everyone swans back in totally ripped or masterclass chefs, I gotta shift the few stone I've put on since March.

In all probability yes, even if we get to the range of 50-100 daily cases in late November. All eyes now will be on Dec 1 decision.

If they don't go to Level 2 they know they'll lose people for good I'd say!

Pubs open - if only for 2/3/4 per table for small gatherings!

I think it will be level 3 then level 2 modified. Tony will then spend December warning people about mixing too much in homes, to be careful about elderly relatives, to urge vigilance etc We will see then after Christmas we end up at Level 3 again.

I can confirm that I have no inside knowledge.
None at all. Just guess work.

    Good guess i'd say

They will prob do level three from 1st to either 14th or 21st

Then level 2 for the remainder of the year

I am sorry, but I have no time for indigenous businesses that do not have a decent online presence, whether it's click and collect or delivery to your door.

They had eight months to sort it out.

Maybe establish a portal like Amazon or something, don't know how feasible that is though.

I can't see the pubs being allowed open by NPHET

I'd like to be wrong though

The travel restrictions at level three of only allowing travel within your own county will be very unpopular after two months of lockdown

Quite frankly folks I expect the measures to be lessened. A minority of the population will completely disregard covid guidelines and by January we will be back to increasing the levels again through February (or part of it) past St. Patrick's Day. Just my prediction on it as I already hear a lot of the people I know talk about "having a normal xmas". The news of a potential vaccine has people thinking we will be able to go back to the way things were pre-covid very soon and even before it because we will have this fabled vaccine.

    Sorry for the rant.

Would you not want to get in shape for xmas anyways? Or is this another comedy account

    Regarding the Christmas thing.

Those who were close anyway will cope. But sometimes the guilt of pre Covid neglect will raise its head.

Just saying. We are planning a get together in late January, socially distanced and all that, but will abandon Christmas for this year for the sake of everyone.

So this vaccine involves having particles of the virus itself injected into a muscle ...........the thing we've all been hiding away from for 8 months we'll now be queuing up to have injected into us, quite ironic ....

In actual fact, the government were backed into an impossible position by NPHET without being able to give Level 3+ the requisite time to work and prove itself. The reality is that the incidence rates and numbers dropped significantly during the period that Level 3+ can be attributed as the cause.

Superb article in The Irish Times today - https://www.irishtimes.com/news/health/back-off-lockdowns-and-protect-vulnerable-say-irish-doctors-1.4404553

"Level 3 once it was genuinely implemented" is a funny phrase coming from someone in government. It was governments job it implement the measures properly, which it has the chance to do for the previous weeks. It instead decided to prevaricate, leak and undermine the effort.

If they had courage in their convictions, they'd put their name to their quote.
He [Tony Holohan] has recently told public briefings that it is Level 5 restrictions that are getting the numbers down. This is a view not shared by many people in Government, though.

Another odd quote. If it isn't level 5 restrictions that are getting the numbers down, what do these many people in government think that is. And if many people in government think that level 5 is unnecessary, why are they pursuing this policy?

I think a brief lock down in mid January could be doable and Ireland could have a low instance of the disease for Spring

It's mad the clamour for further lockdowns in January or February

Are you being deliberately obtuse with your comments in your previous post? Its clear from the article that some people in government did not believe a national level 3+ was given time to work

Cases have been coming down significantly now for at least 16 days, I.e. prior to level 5 having an effect whatsoever
