Nothing inevitable about a third wave, according to Tony.

Sure there's a review alright but it's already been determined that we're getting the full six weeks of lockdown

Coupled with the vaccine news this is one of the most bright covid related news days in a long time. You'd have to be a real hardcore pessimist to see negativity in today's outlook!

maybe one more short sharp lockdown in February, then vaccine time.

    it's over lads.

Tony asked about families going for a drink at Christmas in the pub, says he doesn't envison that and five minutes later says nothing has been discussed about post Dec 1

It's not over, saying that would lead people to believe that they can return to normal tomorrow.

What we have, finally, is a path to victory - but it hasn't been won yet.

Dr Holohan and NPHET are definitely living up to persisting with an overly negative outlook they’re often accused of. They don’t sound organised at all re vaccination roll out. Meanwhile in the U.K., they’re ready to go ASAP.

Will the lockdown go full course if the rates keep falling I'm hating being stuck inside so much.

But it's still no cause for celebration! We're not there yet!

Dontcha know that if we had zero case on December 1st(or 11th or 21st),Tony won’t be advocating anyone going for a Christmas drink outside your own gaff

And of those 3 countries below us, Ireland is the only one of them that has a definite reducing rate of growth of cases

What evidence was there to justify the closure of hair and beauty salons? There has been no report of infection taking place in salons. After all, staff and customers wore masks and staff also wore visors.

In all probability yes, even if we get to the range of 50-100 daily cases in late November. All eyes now will be on Dec 1 decision.

Spoofing as usual, avoiding questions on plans for rollouts.

You know full well that there will be vaccines available and our Health Service will take months to get them distributed, meanwhile most western countries will be back to normal.

So far what they say in the UK and what they actually do in the UK have been two very different things.

There's a long list of places where that is also true but it's indoors, with close proximity and a decent length of time involved.

The large amount of community transmissions (ie unidentified spread) means shut down the community.

It might not just be the physical funeral, it could also be wakes or going to the house afterwards.

So they are now saying there will be no four week review, a complete contradiction of what the government said

It will be last minute updates on any loosening of restrictions which doesn't bode well imo

If i knew we would have a vaccine rolled out by next Spring and freedom for the Summer I could deal with a difficult winter

If there isn't a significant relaxation in restrictions on Dec 1st, people will abandon any advice that nphet or government are giving them.

So we are down to 270 cases but the elephant in the room is that schools are only back a day after being off for 9 days.

If we see an increase in numbers over the next ten days then an admission of schools being the cause is hard to argue with.

I think we should be planning to close the schools a week earlier before Christmas, allow house occupants have a few days at home and any illness can come to the fore in isolation before visitors call round for Christmas.

The UK government are all fur coat and no knickers. They talk the talk (project moonshot nonsense) but have consistently failed to walk the walk.

If Ireland can get it's hands on a vaccine, I'd have no reason to believe that a speedy and effective rollout couldn't be undertaken. We have and do distribute vaccines effectively.

Holohan and co cannot at this stage go into the specifics of vaccine distribution at the moment since it A) distracts from their current core message and B) more importantly we don't have one yet.

Look it at this way - there's a chance all that will happen. And even if everything isn't over by next summer, then by then it's going to be a lot closer to being over. Every day brings us closer to this whole thing being over.
