Leading public health specialist is Scally who they rolled out onto radio 1 this morning, he has to stay relevant somehow I guess.

The strain referenced is know as cluster 5 of which there's no reported cases since September

Wonder when we'll know how much and when Ireland will be getting a share ?
BBC reporting that they will be getting 30 million doses!

I think i've read somewhere (maybe over on the vaccine thread) that the split of the EU allocation will be based on population size. So we're what, 5m out of 500m, give or take. So, 1% I guess ?

30 million is their total order, they won't be getting that in one go anyway.

Presume the share details are being worked out at EU level in relation to what each country will classify as the highest risk category along with front line workers.

The obsession with RTÉ on here is hilarious

I just think a lot of older people rely solely on rte for news and their reporting of most things is laced with unnecessary doom.

Really made my morning that vaccine news. Big smile on my face. We can actually say that this will end sometime inthe near future now

    Great news indeed.

And the way the world is such a rushed place nowadays I wouldnt be surprised to see a lot of people get this in Ireland in the first quarter of 2021.

Imagine we were all vaccinated by March. Wouldnt that have been the longest year in history.

Ig we are battling with other countries for what has to be a limited supply, I have to think it will be 2022 before everyone is sorted with a jab.

100million to be manufactured this year and then about 100million each month? On proportional delivery, Ireland will get low amounts each batch - we'll get fractions of what bigger countries get, based on population (and I'm sure there will be some political shennanigans too.

    Great news.

Why have I some lingering doubts still.. Is it just a result of the year we've had..

From the horse’s mouth.... Seems incredibly positive. Thank god it is arriving after Trump. 😂

    Hopefully the CEO isn’t exaggerating.

Well once Moderna and the others get their skates on there will be more and more supply.

Anyways there is light at the end of the tunnel.

    Today is a good day.

Reckon we need to vaccinate about 2 to 2.5 million vulnerable / at risk people in Ireland asap , then hopefully everyone else within the next six months .
Even the first phase would take some organising but would make a major difference to hospitalisation and deaths .

I think the EU have agreed that all EU countries will get their share, and start vaccinating at the same time, so its good that we're part of the group.

I'd be very very surprised if we didn't get some doses before end of year. I reckon we'll get ~1 million in first delivery.

Have we started to develop supply chain management systems for delivery of vaccination here?

He's saying too early to say we have a vaccine, some companies trying to boost themselves on the stock market.

    It's still stage 3 etc

Stock markets are reaching all time highs after Biden's win and now this. Nikkei just surged to a 29 year high.
    Good times ahead, thank God.

Yeah, positive implementation too for the other vaccines, as they all target the same protein.

Trump won't be happy when he wakes up. Would be the ultimate triggering if they started vaccinating people on Biden's inauguration day.
