If I were you I wouldn't binge watch whatever show that doctor is on next because he's talking out his rear end that nothing is near (his thoughts would be more akin for the conspiracy threads)

I could agree with you that not everything we see on TV is the truth or close to it.

I'm working hard to retrieve that footage, because I want to see who he was exactly.
The program I watched was broadcast by a channel who is nationwide known for its very high reputation of sources and news inquiries. I would trust what comes out of that channel more than anything else around here.

If only I could get hold of that footage, I would understand how reputable that scientist is. I'm browsing the online archive of the channel, no success so far :(

I binge watched several TV programs a couple of days ago, all focused on the virus and vaccine subjects.
The presenter of one of those programs asked a doctor involved in the emergency team why the rollout date for the vaccine keeps moving forward. It was October, then it became November, then the end of the year, and so on.
His answer was that in time of desperation and grimness, people need some hope, need to see some light at the end of the tunnel.
Governments' task is to give people some comfort and a bit of hope, so governments keep saying that the vaccine is on the way just to keep people quiet and positive. Truth is, according to this doctor, that no vaccine is near, that no data is available on Phase 3 of studies, so there is no official and sure rollout date yet.
His words were that it is possible that something might be available late April, and anyway no end of pandemic is possible before beginning 2023.
    Those were his words.

I've been trying to retrieve the footage on the web, but because I watched many programs all day long, I can't remember what program it was, can't remember the time of the day and maybe I am wrong on the day too (Saturday or Friday?)...
Maybe he's right with his predictions, who am I to question them, but such a pessimistic outlook suggests to me that here we have another doctor looking to make a name for himself/herself and generate a few headlines.

The pandemic continuing (whether in current form, or eased restrictions) for a further 2-3 years is far-fetched at best, simple scaremongering at worst. Purely from a medical perspective, maybe 2-3 years is a good approximation, but a point will be reached when economics supersede the risk to public health and normality will resume. How anyone can expect the majority of world economies to run on life support for another 2-3 years is beyond me, not to mention entire populations merely existing, rather than living.

A vaccine developed by Pfizer Inc. PFE 0.03% and partner BioNTech SE proved better than expected at protecting people from Covid-19 in a pivotal study, a milestone in the hunt for shots that can stop the global pandemic.

The vaccine proved to be more than 90% effective in the first 94 subjects who were infected by the new coronavirus and developed at least one symptom, the companies said Monday

Paywalled for me but is that phase 3 data we're seeing reported on? If so, happy days!

Wow personally I didn't see this coming, good efficency was expected and 60-70% would have been considered a success but 90% on initial results, outstanding

“I’ve been in vaccine development for 35 years,” William Gruber, Pfizer’s senior vice president of vaccine clinical research and development, told STAT. “I’ve seen some really good things. This is extraordinary.”

Yup, interim efficacy analysis conducted on November 8, 2020 by an external, independent Data Monitoring Committee (DMC) from the Phase 3 clinical study.

    https://investors.pfizer.com/investor-news/press-release-details/2020/Pfizer-and-BioNTech-Announce-Vaccine-Candidate-Against-COVID-19-Achieved-Success-in-First-Interim-Analysis-from-Phase-3-Study/default.aspx

"After discussion with the FDA, the companies recently elected to drop the 32-case interim analysis and conduct the first interim analysis at a minimum of 62 cases. Upon the conclusion of those discussions, the evaluable case count reached 94 and the DMC performed its first analysis on all cases. The case split between vaccinated individuals and those who received the placebo indicates a vaccine efficacy rate above 90%, at 7 days after the second dose. This means that protection is achieved 28 days after the initiation of the vaccination"

Still on track for third week in November

Surely with 90% efficacy there should be zero excuse for restrictions on social distancing, masks, large gatherings etc not to be dropped (gradually of course)?

    Great news

How do they get the 90% figure? I think I read 64 people who got the placebo got Covid. Do they extrapolate that or is it that 90% of people who took vaccine didn’t get it (which doesn’t really make sense).

Can they produce 100m per month?

Assuming this is confirmed with more work it'll show that vaccines only take a long time due to lack of an imperative - which is to say if it's something with very low serious sickness/fatality level or is most likely to effect poor people in lands far away big pharma will take it's own sweet time or just not bother at all.

As noted at the end of the release. This data is expected by end of this month to begin with.

"Pfizer and BioNTech plan to submit data from the full Phase 3 trial for scientific peer-review publication."

Even if they’re not compliance will fall massively

Its been flagged a few times in the past few months that the major barrier in terms of time is money. Covid vaccines have had money thrown at them.

Sky news has it now as breaking news. Please let this be the one. Any idea if the EU has access booked to this vaccine?
