I think the Joe will have a difficult job ahead of him to undo the damages caused by his predecessor. Rejoining the WHO, The Paris Climate Accord and do something to restore the laughable image of America across the world.

A certainly more difficult task will be dealing with a pandemic that is entirely out of control, and the his real legacy could be how he handles the deep racial divide that obviously still exists in America. That will be a huge task in itself and we'll have to wait and see how it's handled.

Are ABC, CNN, MSNBC, AP waiting for Fox News to officially call it just for shîts and giggles? :)

This attitude has been the most concerning development in the last few years because it affects everything else. Like with all the precedents, it starts out with the worst case and everybody assumes once they are dealt with then things go back to normal but no it continues to move the intellectual goalposts and the power concentrates.

Adults now want to be shielded from the truth (now you're thinking 'but donald lies', yes and he should be corrected and we all make up our minds). I'm surprised at how most really can't remove the emotions of the moment and realise it isn't going to be good. People seem to be satisfied that because any law around freedom of speech isn't broken it means that the principle can't be eroded, especially when they willingly hand over that power to a couple of corporations.

Everything is fine if you support the establishment candidate, ignoring that these are the candidates that have continuously destroyed the middle class, owned by Wall St., etc. a lot of people were vocal and angry about it up until Biden was nominated. It will be next to impossible for someone other than the Wall St. republican or democrat to get elected ever again, so careful what you wish for with centralised control of information and even truth.

The shîte he spews needs to be cut off because people are gullible enough to swallow anything he says.

Same. But I think it's promising to see Biden voters out partying in the streets.

You're right re covid. I think Trump has destroyed any hope of cooperation from the population in dealing with that.

Do they? I thought they get rightly criticised for giving Rachel Maddow carte blanche to use their platform as her own personal soapbox.

I get it, you don't like Trump. I don't either. No obligation to cover his speech? He's the incumbent president in the midst of a neck and neck election count for the office of leader of the free world, why would you not cover that as a reputable media outlet? Regardless of whether the candidate is a moron or not.

For 'her personal soapbox', she certainly has won a lot of awards from her peers

2017 Emmy Award in the Outstanding Live Interview category for The Rachel Maddow Show segment "One-on-One with Kellyanne Conway".
2017 Emmy Award in the Outstanding News Discussion & Analysis category for The Rachel Maddow Show story "An American Disaster: The Crisis in Flint".
2011 Emmy Award in the Outstanding News Discussion & Analysis category for The Rachel Maddow Show segments "Good Morning Landlocked Central Asia!".
Maddow was named in Out magazine's "Out 100" list of the "gay men and women who moved culture" in 2008.
Maddow was voted "Lesbian/Bi Woman of the Year (American)" in AfterEllen's 2008 Visibility Awards.
Maddow won a Gracie Award in 2009, presented by the American Women in Radio and Television.
In 2009, Maddow was nominated for GLAAD's 20th Annual Media Awards for a segment of her MSNBC show, "Rick Warren, Change To Believe In?", in the Outstanding TV Journalism Segment category.
On March 28, 2009, Maddow received a Proclamation of Honor from the California State Senate, presented in San Francisco by California State Senator Mark Leno.
In April 2009, she was listed at No. 4 in Out magazine's Annual Power 50 List.
Maddow placed sixth in the "2009 AfterEllen.com Hot 100" list (May 11, 2009) and third in its "2009 Hot 100: Out Women" version.
Maddow was included on a list of openly gay media professionals in The Advocate's "Forty under 40" issue of June/July 2009.
In 1994, Maddow received an Honorable Mention in the Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity Prize in Ethics.
In June 2009, Maddow's MSNBC show was the only cable news show nominated for a Television Critics Association award in the Outstanding Achievement in News and Information category.
In March 2010, Maddow won at the 21st Annual GLAAD Media Awards in the category of Outstanding TV Journalism—Newsmagazine for her segment, "Uganda Be Kidding Me".
In May 2010, Maddow was the 2010 commencement speaker and was given an honorary Doctor of Laws (LLD) degree at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts.
In July 2010, Maddow was presented with a Maggie Award for her ongoing reporting of healthcare reform, the murder of Dr. George Tiller, and the anti-abortion movement.
In August 2010, Maddow won the Walter Cronkite Faith & Freedom Award, which was presented by the Interfaith Alliance. Past honorees included Larry King, Tom Brokaw, and the late Peter Jennings.
In February 2012, Maddow was presented the John Steinbeck Award by the Martha Heasley Cox Center for Steinbeck Studies at San Jose State University.
Maddow was named Outstanding Host at the 2012 Gracie Allen Awards
In December 2012, the audio book version of Maddow's Drift was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album.
On October 5, 2017, her MSNBC show won two Emmy Awards, for coverage of the tainted water crisis in Flint, Michigan, and for Maddow's interview with White House counselor Kellyanne Conway.

Probably want them to take the flak from Trump and the GOP.

That's not the point. It's a slippery slope.

It's much slippier when the President is attempting to undermine the Democratic system.

I'll be glad to see Biden win but i just saw CNBC cut off Trump mid speech saying "we're interrupting the President's speech because what he's saying in large part is not true".

Let me decide that, as the viewer. Let me hear what the President is saying, true or not. Don't treat me like a fcking imbecile. The US media are an absolute disgrace, this fusion of entertainment and news is just something I can never warm to.

There has to be a limit to who or what is said on their airways.

The media wouldn't give a far right nutcase a platform for example to insult minorities.

Equally they shouldn't give the likes of Trump a platform to insult election workers who work damn hard for nothing or the American democratic process.

Its right he should be cut off.

It's a bitter sweet victory for Pat. Hes glad to see Trump gone but on the other hand devotes a good hour per day to talking about him on newstalk.

I'm not sure about that. I detest Trump and his comments are outrageous. But he is still the president so a national news station should broadcast his speech.
American media is all about profit. We can complain about RTE or the BBC but it shows there should still be public service broadcasting.
I don't think every clown should get a platform but if elected by citizens that should be respected regardless of how unpalatable.

Since when have TV networks been obliged to showcase a particular politician? CNN started cutting out from his "covid updates" when he turned them into election rallies. Last night was just an unstructured rant. I watched the whole thing and after 5 minutes he was going in circles. They have no obligation to show him. This is what happens in a democracy - he can say what he wants (within the law), we can choose to watch it or not, and networks can decide to show it or not.

In fairness the Trump supporters would probably be more akin to Charlottesville... The celebrations in Philadelphia and the likes is lovely more than anything.

One other thing in relation to broadcasting speeches from the white house on this. I'm pretty sure he's breaking the law in terms of using the white house as campaign headquarters.

yup. i saw nothing but joy and relief from those philly people dancing. the kind of scenes you see at the end of disaster movies when the asteroid is deflected or the aliens are beaten.

Biden voters are out partying in the streets?

Biden has robbed Donald Trump; who has just given to them [via lock-down] fairer commercial real-estate. much of which will now be bought by: Democrat Big Bureaucrats. and, 'the people out partying in the streets' will be paying a now new ever-increasing rents. - to the Democrats.
