    Hi

My sister has a 201 CHR hybrid. CarPlay has been working fine but this week it won’t connect via USB. A message appears on the car screen “Device no response”. I thought maybe it was an iOS 14 issue but the same happens with an android phone.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

worth the wait anyway, CarPlay is brilliant. Surely the death of in built Sat Navs in cars though?

I’d imagine so, I’m in Westmeath so I wouldn’t have thought there’s anything special about us! Laughable thing is that Toyota Ireland aren’t promoting the fact that you can upgrade?!

    They might be embarrassed?

Upgrade installed today. Free of charge too!!

Hi, can I ask what dealership the update was completed in please? Been trying to get a response from Toyota Ireland, but seems this is near impossible. Will call dealer tomorrow but would be useful to know where you had yours done. Thanks!

Agreed Carplay better than Android and opinions on Google say the same. I'm Android also and totally unimpressed so far. Tried Carplay with my old iPhone (running IOS 14) and very impressed. I'm going to persist with Android though till I crack it or it cracks me.

I got spotify to work by clicking unknown sources in settings (different version of spotify ). also know that there is no icons for messaging like there is in iphone. but whats app and messaging are still supported. i was looking an iphone to try it & see what it was like. The same totally unimpressed by it Android auto I could do the same thing before i got it installed.

Looks like Android Auto is still a work in progress - hopefully they'll get there soon 🀞

Scroll down and you should see more apps?

I forgot to mention that it was android now not iPhone .Ya that all downloaded "Google maps media and messaging." Have to alter stuff to get my version of Spotify to work & appear but other than that. Thats all the apps showing up for android

It's a licensing issue and I've been told it'll be sorted before years end. But it's not really acceptable is it.

Crazy situation, I don't understand why, as anyone can go out and buy a unit and put it in, I've a pioneer that works with apple play and android

It’s not just a Toyota thing. In my Ford CarPlay is way better than Android Auto and I know someone with an Audi says similar. AA is just poorly done.

Android auto is fairly awful in comparison to Apple car play. The only problem with Apple car play is the voice command stuff is limited to Apple apps, ie you can’t ask Spotify to play music etc

Have both on my unit and switched back to an android phone and android auto is as good to me as apple carplay, Spotify is Seamless, no issues whatsoever, pioneer SPH 250 DAB

Yeah that is a drawback, same as not being able to ask Siri to navigate to somewhere in Google Maps. Luckily GM has the Google voice search built in but it could be more seamless. Android Auto just isn’t smooth enough for handy use in a car though.

Ah lads yere spoiled, voice commands work, Google maps is accurate, voice to text is OK, maybe I'm easily pleased but I'm impressed with my unit

wireless android auto will only be available on android 11 or what ever it’s called also think it will only work with select models.

Yeah I don't get it, I've been using Android Auto in my Golf for 3 years with 3 different phones and haven't had any major issues. A few small things such as it not playing messages when I press the notification sometimes or the odd time it doesn't hear me say 'yes' to reply to a message but other than that it does exactly what I need it to. It's a smooth experience and it's easy enough to use.

It does depend on the car though. In my Golf if I mute the volume Spotify will pause whereas in my mam's Mokka X it didn't. The navigation volume wouldn't change and was distorted also but fine in the Golf.

but i heard it drains the phone battery like hell though, which would be a right pain if it does

FFS that's not too clever so

I don't think it would be an issue for battery drain but I believe wireless charging increases heat on the battery which will shorten the lifespan of it in the phone over time.

Well either way it will defeat the purpose of it being wireless.if u have to plug the thing in after a while. If there was a way of improving it so u could use Bluetooth then that would be ideal.
