Whatever happens its yet again a crazy night, US elections v irish/uk elections are like watching WWE and remembering wrestling years ago when Big daddy faced giant haystacks every weekend on ITV (you youngsters won't have a clue what I'm on about) :D

Postal votes and early voters though.

Ohio isn't actually that heavily skewed by postal and early. They seem to be coming through at about the same rate as today's votes.

    Arkansas goes to trump.

I always have a mild heart attack when they call the likes AR and WV for Republicans and then I realise the State they actually say.

Biden will not get Ohio or NC.

NC often votes Democrat and he's leading there.

Ohoi looks really good too for him. 55% votes in and he's 54% to 44% ahead.

Hmmm, not sure those early leads in NC and Ohio are large enough to withstand the in person voting which will heavily favour Trump.

Most of the early votes counted in NC were mail in and early which would be heavily Democratic. It'll tighten up as today's votes get counted which would be mostly Republicans.

even still, going off the numbers, Trump would need to basically get EVERY vote remaining to prevent Biden from taking the state. I can see Biden taking this

Even most of the Americans demanding socialism are right by European standards. Jesus the US thinks the Irish healthcare system is socialist ffs

Some elements of socialism make sense and- IMO- should be considered in a social model esp free health care but full blown socialism is not the answer. A fairer form of capitalism benefits far more of the population than socialism.

Biden massively overperforming in Ohio. If he gets that over the lines it's a big step.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

I'm guessing there's a misconception about how votes are being counted (e.g. missing that rural, deeper red counties tend to come in a little later). It's why the NYT and CNN coverage (and any others doing similar) are so much more useful than the jibber jabbering nonsense on many other broadcasts. Just letting you know the numbers, where they are from, and where the ones remaining are likely to break... plus the guy on CNN is just great.

Everyone is having a love in for John King and CNN tonight.

Never knew he was married to Dana Bash.

    ---

I have watched a lot of US elections over the years and CNN coverage this year is by far and away the best I've ever seen.

It seems really early to call it at 8%, I hadn't realised they jumped to declare so quickly.
Because it was always going to go red. Unless in the first 8% of the votes counted there's a swing of 30% compared to what was expected then it's fine and makes sense to call it.

Where are you getting this nonsense from? Biden is way ahead in Ohio. 10 point lead with 50% of the count done.

Ohio will tighten up massively. It is looking good but I still wouldn't be counting on it. AZ/Wisconsin/NC does it.

Think its the early votes that have him ahead, just watch it tighten.

There was a lot of talk about a 'red mirage' but I'm worried we might be witnessing a blue one as it stands.

I keep remembering what year we're in. I have a bad feeling about this.

Biden handily ahead in NH. Good sign for the rest of the north.

yeah that looks about right, it's doable but I still think Biden will steal it at the end

They said on CNN a little while ago the NC vote had been made up of 97% early vote and it's been tightening since.

Can someone explain how some states with only some votes noted as counted are declaring one way or the other?

    Is it essentially precedent based?

For example, Arkansas has declared for Trump with only 14% of votes counted. Massachusetts declaring for Biden with 3% counted.
