yup ....... bit of a tard.

Macan bought in Dec 17 £60k car ............ €10k deposit and £750/month PCP ......... trades that in after 18 months with trade in value of £37k.

Audi bought a year ago....... £50k car, no deposit and £800/month on 4 year PCP...... he wants to trade that in now and he's offered £33k but owes £48k iirc from his ramblings.

I didn't watch to the end to see is he pulling the trigger on trading in the Audi but if he doesn't he's spent £33500 to drive the Macan for 18 months and the Audi for 12 months....... that's expensive but nothing more then he signed up for.

Yes he is. I'm not surprised the comments are turned off on youtube as he would have got lambasted for his stupidity.

video brought him from 5k subs to 20k though since June. Now all the money lost to bad pcp deals can be written off as a business expense (I'm not sure if I'm even joking or not)

Thats a dumb video. He's actually not doing much more wrong than buying expensive cars for list price with an interest charge payable and moving them on too quickly, he is suffering first year depreciation over and over and he is leveraged too making it worse. He didn't get the wrong product or anything like it, he is just suffering horrendous depreciation, the only way it could be lessened is by paying cash but there would still be a sore bum come trade in time even if he paid cash.

Or, i dunno, maybe see out the contract term so you don't get walloped with the massive first year depreciation over and over again maybe?

One of the linked videos was an introduction to his new 400bhp RSQ3 so I'm guessing he did go through with it.

I love seeing lads like this, he’s obviously loaded and is doing us a great service by buying these top of range cars news every year which provides good supply of used cars

After watching more of him, the Audi is for the wife..
he has another video where he started off intending to spend 25k on a used focus RS and ends up with a 80k nissan gtr on finance. He seems to enjoy himself so maybe he has the right idea?

    New M340d touring. 340bhp but 700Nm torque!

That's an impressive car. Unfortunately such a car would be too expensive to buy here brand new thanks to our penal tax system.

I was looking on the configurator at the m340i/d again this week as you do... and since the budget changes the diesel is now almost same price as the petrol where there was a few grand in the diesels favour before.
Great cars but as Bazz says they are too pricey in our market unfortunately.

Dropped the car in today for a brake fluid service and had a good first look at this 420i. Not sure to be honest. It's certainly one to turn heads.

Apart from the massive grill it's basically a scaled down 8 series coupe.

So they design a humongous front grille, and then block the air through-flow of the top half?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,678 ✭✭✭frozenfrozen

could be the opening and closing type when it needs more or less air. Think it's mostly to do with emissions so they can heat the engine up sooner?

Ah. That'd explain why it's not just the one piece, but instead a number of vertical pieces.

No. It has active air shutter, same as my G30. Stays closed to warm the engine up quicker and only opens to cool. Pretty fantastic in fact, my car heats up very quickly.

Its a beautiful car except for the grille. Nobody will convince me that the grille isnt pig ugly.
The current 7 series id go so far as to say works if alittle extreme. This is just plain ugly.

Yea gotta say I like it a lot more than I did. That one badly needs spacers though, the wheels are lost in there.

How much was that 420i Wailin? I'd say the grille might grow on me. Anyway, there will be aftermarket bumpers if it doesn't.

Ended up buying an alfa 156 years ago despite hating it when it came out with the offset reg plate to accommodate the alfa grille. And ended up with an e60 5 series despite hating everything about it when it came out first. Both cars grew on me completely. Don't think the 4 series is as controversial looking as the e60 to be honest.

I didn't see a price but the 420i m sport starts at around 55k before adding packs and options.

The F10 my wife had and my old e92 (I think) had this tech too, but just less obvious as there are shutters/blinds Infront of the radiator. I do love simplicity of the idea though, and getting the engines warmed up quicker. Great idea.

The front of the M340D you linked to before it looks much more appealing to me. I wonder in years to come, when they become affordable to younger owners, will we see front end swaps like the Golf and Bora in the past? Would there be much different in mountings etc?

Engine warms up with stat closed ...... Closing grill doesn't do much to speed up that surely? Unless you mean heat up as in the excess heat for the interior?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,446 ✭✭✭Wailin

When closed cooling air flows under the engine so i guess it would help the engine warm up faster? BMW claims it's for optimal heating and cooling of the engine plus reduces drag coefficient to improve economy....probably a load of marketing nonsense!. All I know is the car is at operating temp very quickly and cabin nice and toasty!

number plate position on the 420 ruins the look! cars look so much slicker without the number plate on the front!

Ordinarily I'd agree with you but have you seen the 4 series without number plate? Big bugs bunny head on it

Its certainly a very useful feature on the hybrids where grille can be closed off for aero efficiency when engine isnt running.

No doubt........ I can't see it doing much to aid an engine heating up though .......... quick google.........

    https://www.pacificbmw.com/how-the-active-kidney-grille-in-2018-bmw-7-series-works/

2018 BMW 7 SERIES ACTIVE KIDNEY GRILLE FEATURES
The main benefits of the Active Kidney Grille in the 7 Series are engine cooling and aerodynamics. The Active Kidney Grille has bars and flaps in the lower air intake that automatically swing open whenever additional cooling air is required. This system activates depending on several temperature thresholds as well as the speed of the vehicle. For example, during the warming-up phase and when operating at low loads, the BMW Active Kidney Grille is closed completely to maximize the aerodynamic efficiency.

    https://www.bmw.cc/en/topics/fascination-bmw/efficient-dynamics/aerodynamics.html
    ACTIVE AIR STREAM KIDNEY GRILLE.
The Active air stream kidney grille knows when engine, brakes and other components need air and automatically opens the air vents. If no further air intake is required, it closes them again. This improves aerodynamics, and fuel consumption falls.

"The all new Air Breather and Active Kidney Grille

The new Active Kidney Grille optimizes engine cooling and aerodynamics. Whenever additional cooling air is required, the Active Kidney Grille bars and flaps in the lower air intake automatically swing open. This feature tailors the amount of air for cooling the engine and brakes in a total of five stages as demands dictate. This system activates depending on several temperature thresholds as well as the speed of the vehicle. For instance during the warming-up phase and when operating at low loads, the BMW Active Kidney Grille is closed completely to maximize the aerodynamic efficiency of the vehicle."

I'd think folk noticing the engine warming up quicker are used to diesels that don't generate as much excess heat compared to petrols :)
