Did you call into them or fill in the thing online? They never bothered their bollixes even acknowledging my online one.

I filled in their online thing and they called me within an hour.

May I ask, Wailin if the car has not lived up to expectations in some way?
It’s a beautiful machine that seems to have it all.
Covid isn’t going to last forever. It’s a hard sell privately dur to its value and you’re unlikely to get a very fair price for it from a dealer.
That said if you want it gone the likes of beshoffs or even cold calling a BMW dealer might work.
Good stock is apparently thin on the ground.

Is it not a case of your car having depreciated that amount over the 4 or 5 months it's been up for sale anyway?

I don't think so, the prices have been pretty stable both here and the UK since I bought, it was more me trying apply logic to the private sale market, and convincing myself that just because a private sale deal appears to be good value against a dealer sale, people will be interested at a price below dealer prices. The reality of selling a car at this price bracket, I have found at least, is that it needs to be a seriously good deal for someone to do it, and even things like dealer warranty don't make the difference you think they will make to convince people to go with your car over one from the north/dealer.

I could have sold my car at the price I have it at now basically, months later and I've got the price at what I think it realistically should be, and have a few people interested waiting for their cars to sell, essentially selling anything private at this price point is a bit of a nightmare and not a quick process, as I'm sure you're aware from previous dealings! I reckon you've a far better chance just sticking it up for what you paid/a small loss and getting out of it quick, chalking it off as a mistake.

It's just down to lack of driving the car that's pushed me to putting it up. 2.5k miles in a few months is not enough to bond with this car and drive it like it's meant to be driven. Further restrictions and it's looking likely to continue for a long long time doesn't help.

I’d try Joe Duffy bmw direct rather than Zucar, as that is something they would retail. I got a good price from them last year for a 530e

Ive my car sat up, less than 2k miles in the year. Barely use it the big difference is, ive very little depreciation which means its not a killer for me. Also declared off road, i have access to parents car if needed, like you say wailin, this scenario could go on over a year easily...

I had a 300km drive today with work which was the first in ages as I couldn't do what we were at today remotely. Most of this was in Leitrim which turns out has great driving roads. Windy, wet conditions today with leaves and shít blowing all over the roads and the car came into its own. I had it in sport plus most of the time and it's just effortless to make progress with zero drama unless you want the car to step out a little you can.

I still have it up for sale but know I'll regret selling it as it makes zero sense to sell it, so having 2nd thoughts now. Cars I'm looking at around a racetrack would be faster, and have more fizz. But weighing up that they eat fuel, less practical, potential for big bills and on a day like today would be slower for sure in my hands has me going around in circles.

Having an interest in cars is a fecking pain in the hole....

I did 600km on Saturday and averaged 40mpg, mix of motorway in comfort and N roads in sport. Its mental theres so much performance for the tax+mpg

Ditto here - 6 cylinders, 260bhp, regularly seeing 40mpg and €280 annual motor tax. The only good thing the Green party every did. :D

The largest cost of motoring for the vast majority is depreciation. If you can avoid that or get someone else to pay for it (mileage €s etc) then mpg and motor tax is small change for most. Most folk with low tax in anything decent have paid for that privilege.

New M440i. Have to say it's growing on me! 0-60 in 3.8 sec, a lot quicker than the outgoing m4.

    Looking at 2008 - 2012 probably commercial

    Land rover discovery

    Or maybe a
Range rover evoque but I just think there more of a woman's car I like the older models aswell.

I know they are money pits and have problems but I do most of the work on my own cars and have a good friend mechanic I can trust if I need there help .

Whst are your thoughts ? What would you go for and why. Thanks for any advice

RR sport by a mile if style is your thing.
LR discovery if practicality is what you're after.

RR evoque if you are a footballers wife

All painfully unreliable, all exceptionally comfy places to be, even the Evoque.
It's not so much being handy with spanners with JLR's, electrics go wrong, major parts go wrong. It's never cheap. Says a lot when an E70 X5 is the safe alternative.

I saw an 07 X5 the other day and couldn't really tell it apart from a 171 X5 my workmate drives and I see every day. They aged well.

BMW x5 are lovely if you can get a nice one there alot cheaper then a range rover anyway .

Would they be reliable compared to a range rover?

Yeah they would be as they're basically a 5 series which I've had loads of and always found them good. Timing chain issues aside bmw engines were always good and electronics solid enough too. X5 will munch through tyres and suspension parts though due to size and weight. I wouldn't drive one unless it was a company car but I prefer a saloon or touring 5 series to an X5 anyway. I defo wouldn't run a range rover anything using my own money unless I knew how to maintain and fix myself, which I don't.

To be fair I did when they came out, but I recently thought it was actually pretty ahead of it's time design wise. I don't like the jeep/coupe thing but it's a market segment now and they did a good job of it.

The body needs* to come off for some engine work etc, turbo replacement for example in the V8s

*there are workarounds of course........ cutting, pop rivets, underseal etc etc :pac:

Yourself and your buddy would want to be fairly RR knowledgeable if the sh1t hit the fan.

You could of course be lucky and knock troublefree years out of one also :)

We've had 3 LR/RR on the family fleet, a disco, a sport and an evoque. The evoque and sport were/are very troublesome. The Evoque is 17 and on it's 3rd turbo. A 17 X6 shares the drive and it does big miles and has been flawless.
