Well I for one think teachers do are great job, and in my experience having kids in school are diligent, innovative in how they are dealing with the changes in school and above all full of integrity. It is the facts being peddled on the thread not the profession I have an issue with

Look the fact is teachers do not trust the Dept of Education or HSE to test and trace teachers based on their past performance. I felt safer as a nurse during the Aids epidemic in late 80s early 90s when they hadnt a clue how it was caught, then I do now. But all I can do is read the science and keep my little corner of school clean and ventilated.

I happen to think that the biggest player in my school so far is the windows being open all day, it is freezing but worth it. We are covid central in Dublin and so far only a few offical cases in school, which I think ventilation is playing a big part in preventing spread.

Because Ireland was of course the epicenter of the 80s AIDS crisis.

You keep clutching those pearls Khalessi.

I have a waterbottle thermal and coats and if that is what it takes to keep going grand, I am happy to do it.

That post is a new low in bad taste. Quite an achievement given the usual standard.

What do you know about it? Personal or professional experience? I'll wait.

Weather has been fair mild, wonder how keeping the windows open will pan out in the next month or 2.

Some seriously tragic characters on this thread, seem to be at nothing but keeping their little BS circle jerk going. Wouldn't do it if you paid me, get a life lads.

You seem confused Mr Expert. In one thread you claim that schools are contributing to propagation yet in this thread you state that schools are safe and to claim otherwise is harmful. Clearly you regard your own behaviour as harmful.

Hi there. Getting back to you in this.

I think I explained elsewhere here that 'safe' is not really a black and white thing, and must be regarded as gradations of risk.

Corona brings risk, albeit very small. Schools, while being loci of transmission, as they must be since people are associating, bring no significantly increased risk than other essential aspects of life today. So in that sense, they are not significantly safer or less safe in the over development of the pandemic.

Can one catch Covid-19 in a school ? Of course, and that experience is being replicated in every country across Europe. Does that make it un'safe' ? Of course not, and that collective knowledge is hugely important to us.

The obvious conclusion PropogandaMan is that you are speaking out of both sides of your mouth. You registered as a user less than three weeks ago and only post in Covid threads. I am not sure what you hope to achieve but you are definitely entertaining.

    I'll play along.

Obviously your time is much more valuable than mine....

Essentially I want to know what is the prevailing opinion in the Department of Education about their own repeated ineptitude? A clear answer devoid of excuses and bull**** would be fantastic.

I think it fair to say that you are not really posing a question, rather, making a rather pointed rhetorical question in order to criticise the DoE. I cannot speak for the DoE. But think they are unlikely to accept your charge that they display repeated ineptitude. We need to keep children in school and keeping the schools open is a big priority for Government.

Nice of you to admit you are a government shill. Things must be getting desperate in Marlborough Street. The original Marlboro Man made false statements about people's health too.

I wonder about that myself: this week I want to write to the school principal to ask what about her "no boots" policy this winter.

I'm too shy to address him directly so would you be kind enough to ask him about his opinion on teaching in marquees?

What exactly do you class as ineptitude then? Because that’s an incredible statement to be honest given the last six months. Let’s start with just the big ticket items and ignore the Friday evening circulars etc

Leaving cert is going ahead by hook or by crook. Cancelled. Media knew before the schools or students.

Guidance for schools reopening? Three weeks before Opening despite months waiting.

Leaving cert results... do I even need to discuss this further?

Hand sanitizer. 48hrs to tell schools they had unsafe sanitizer in use.

All sanitising equipment. 50 products withdrawn with only one working day before schools reopen

He's too articulate to be a marquee poster, I believe. However, a poster who is critical of Tony Holohan, but defends government, is transparent in their agenda.

All sanitising equipment. 50 products withdrawn with only one working day before schools reopen

    And Norma the invisible Minister

Josepha Madigan going on about all the subs and there are 4 subs between 16 schools in my area, most of which have between 50-70 staff

No it is a serious question. I would argue that if they cannot accept their obvious ineptitide as a department that their comprehension abilities must be even more lacking than I first feared.

Just a reminder of their recent highlights:
    1. Leaving Cert (all of it)
    2. Hand sanatiser issues x 2
    3. Ordering high risk teachers to attend
    4. Issuing guidelines to schools 3 weeks ahead of opening
    5. Lack of accommodation for high risk students
    6. Lack of distance learning guidelines

I won't stay going, but you get the picture.

You say you cannot speak for the Department of Education, who precisely is it you can speak for in your oh so authoritative and condescending tone?.... No-one, same as the rest of us.

It might be ridiculous but I would think 3 days would be enough to read a list and swap out whatever is needed to be swapped out. You can order bigger quantities later. Apparently not...
