For me it's Fintan O'Toole as all he does in his writing is state the obvious. Who do you think is Ireland's worst journalist?

Is Fintan O' Toole a journalist? He mostly just writes opinion columns I thought.

    David Quinn.

Although he’s possibly not a journalist, more of an opinion writer/columnist.

His Twitter profile starts with “Irish Times journalist”

Would have to agree on Fintan The Toole being the worst.

    Louise O’Neill.

She's an author (and a bad one at that amongst other things), definitely not a journalist

Una Mullally, although technically classed as a "contributor" :pac:

Eoghan Harris, by some distance. John Waters/Gemma O'Doherty don't qualify as they are only fit for a padded room.

These threads (like all "What's the worst X...") just end up with every single journalist in Ireland getting mentioned.

    Leo Sherlock.

Although describing him as a journalist is probably pushing it.

And some oddball will be along to complain about “angry men” if too many female journalists are mentioned.

    I am.

I haven't had a single article published. Nor have I even attempted to write one or submit one to any publication.

    What do I win?

Paul Williams. Pretends to be hard hitting but is just a romance writer about criminals.

That puts you ahead of the ones that have only ever published tripe. You may well be the best journalist in Ireland.

Ian O’Doherty. Angry white man with opinions fires out simplistic solutions and sound bites to complex issues.

Eoghan Harris. The man is a parody of himself at this stage.

    Completely blinkered.

    Gemma O’Doherty
    Niamh Horan
    Ewan MacKenna
    Neil Francis
    Barry Egan
    Mary Kenny

All Irish Independent journalists as it happens. More than a coincidence?!

Agree with them all only dont think Gemma can be referred to legitimately as a journalist anymore.

Forgot about Ewan MacKenna. Went from being a white-label Dunphy to some sort of crank who spends his day being angry on Twitter.

    Spot on, J.

Can’t see an overweight man, with anger issues, ranting against the world, while nobody listens, being a “popular” choice on here, though.

Wonder if he posts over in the “Current Affairs” forum?
