Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Left handed people

Isn't it time they got a fairer deal?

A lot of things still don't cater to lefties.

Ring binders and pens come to mind but in all walks of life.

The ring binders are a scandal and pens in left hands leave smudges everywhere (unless you're Chinese).

    Looting.gif

If we have any devil worshippers left handers out there - in what way does society most let you down? Do you feel oppressed, ignored, feared? How can we turn things around?

Anyone else think they get a raw deal?

As a leftie it's sad how we are so misunderstood. We are people too. The devils minion yes but we aren't all evil. School was a nightmare. Try using a fountain pen with your left hand.I'm 40 and I'm still traumatised and have nightmares about that let alone making me sit to the right hand side of the table in school elbowing my tablemate nonstop let alone the constant taunting at lunchtime. I'm also left footed which doubled the abuse at the lunchtime soccer match. Please just treat us as equals.

Aren't lefties more likely to be homosexual too?
    Politically lefties as well.

You lefties are a sinister lot.
Not for nothing is 'sinistra' the Italian word for 'left'.

Any lefty I know is a bit weird or sinister. Usually I notice they are left handed and say ah that explains it.
    Its probably confirmation bias.

I have 2 ciotig kids. They’ve actually developed ambidextrously so that they can use their right hands with knives/ scissor etc, but left for other things. Copies are crap for left handed kids too, Smudges and hard to see what they’re writing

A beautiful skill to see is scissormanship, seeing seamstresses or tailors gliding the scissor blades effortlessly through fabrics or watching a gift wrapper slice through wrapping paper whilst retaining tautness on the paper with the other hand. It's so graceful, it's a marvel.
I don't get jealous but I am very, very envious of right handed peoples' ability to handle a scissors without having to use both hands whilst holding ribbons and tape and other stuff under our chin and between our knees and cramping up our fingers into a tangle of flesh and metal like one of those brain puzzles you get in expensive Christmas crackers.

Not severely left handed. I write with it but other than that I can use both hands.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,576 ✭✭✭monkeysnapper

Yeh I'm left handed but can write to some extent with right hand .... I kick a ball with right foot .... plus play racket sports and can play with either hand ..... I was asked one day why I didnt do back hand with racket .... just never needed it.

At school in the early years it was a knightmare learning to write with a fountain pen and remember teacher making me stand in front of room because of the mess I'd made of my writing ...... bitch!!!! I hated that hag . In later years it turned out my sister bought her house off the bint and after a month she turned up at door demanding the curtains from the upstairs!!!!! But that's another story.... maybe she should have punched her in head with left hand.

Yes, aged 3 and a half , my hand was tied to the desk and I was slapped repeatedly across the face until I picked my pencil up on my right hand .

Well if a lefty writes his name down on the guest list, St. Peter probably wont be able to read it.

Ciotóg comes from the Irish word for awkward . In our school we use the term clé-lámhach/ left handed .

That’s known as crossed laterality. Roll up a page and use it like a telescope- which eye are you using ? If you answer your mobile , which ear do you use ?
Children with crossed laterality are more likely to have dyslexia.

Another leftie here, in my mid-thirties so narrowly missed stigmata stigma. My older brother is a few years older and also left-handed, he wasn't as fortunate. Pious teacher in local gaelscoil forced to write with his right, my parents eventually got wind of it and pulled him out of there. All I got was a few cracks about the divil, rolled off my back. Sticks and stones. Sure I'm Damien's cousin after all. And yes the Catholic Church were an abhorrent shower of cowards the way they treated ciotógs in the past. Bastards.

I’m left handed and it’s a pain in the hole, the young lad is starting to strongly favour his left hand although it’s not set in stone at his age. It’s not like my heart sank but more of a ah bugger, the poor fúcker.

Lefty myself for the writing, but I noticed recently that I tend to open doors with my right hand carry heavier loads of shopping with my right, and I find using my phone one handed weird in my left hand, so again I tend to use the right. In fact, outside of cutting bread, eating with a spoon or fork, writing and operating a remote, everything else is with my right hand. Could always hurl off either side too. Kick with my left, if that makes a difference.

I'm right-handed but one that a lefty friend pointed out to me was cameras.
They all have the shutter button on the top right and it just feels awkward and wrong.

Sign of brains and long life and yes I'm a left hand ginger !!
Signing in onto ring binders etc a disaster, especially in this climate of contact tracing !!
But I did make the school football team because of it !!

They used to call me the silver surfer in school because of pencil marks on my hand. C*nts :D

I'm trans right. I was originally ambidextrous with primary usage on the left. But then the nuns got their way and I'm pretty much right handed now, except for can openers. Can only use the left handed ones.

I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.

Lefties are better by design. Extend your forefinger and your thumb and it makes an L.

Kids should learn this to know left from right.

As soon as I see someone is left handed I distrust them. More to do with knowing sneaky basterds who just happened to be lefties
