What is at top right on the winder with the crown at 4?

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

    It's a Bronze TC-9 1970's turtle style diver.
Blanchy90 of this parish posted the Kickstarter for it a couple of months ago and I went in on it.

But for awful lume, it'd be a fantastic watch.

Did you not have a Bell and Ross at one stage as well, Banie? Or have I got the wrong guy altogether?

I did but I moved it on, lovely watch but I got ferocious rash and grazing from the crown every time I wore it for more than a day.

Still a watch I miss, the finishing on the raised numbers, and hands is beautiful.

Ugh, I was keeping an eye out in case you did! :(:D

Did you move it on here? They're definitely up my street, love the look of them. Had a Steinhart Aviation which is not dissimilar in shape but quite big - kind of missing that one recently, the only piece I've moved on which i've had that with.

The guy I bought it from actually sold it to me on condition of 1st refusal so it just went home so to speak.

They are a big watch but wear smaller IMO.

If you miss the B&R a Panerai might suit you, they sometimes go for bargain prices on adverts or TZ.co.uk, quite comfortable

EDIT - - - As if by magic Eoin posts one for sale on the FS thread, a PAM111 a classic - ---- EDIT

Well I'm both financially embarrassed currently along with definitely, 100% certainly, totally and utterly not left purchase another watch unless and until I get rid of something...
    So have at it ;)

Sure it's got to the point I'm giving away Invicta's herself doesn't know I have :P

There are some PAMs I really like, but honestly think I'd need to get a bit buffer before I wear them.
The 111 is classic, but the teenager that still kicks me into spending money on "tacticool"....

Means I'd probably end up with a carbotech :pac:

Not sure if I should post this here or in the 'shame' thread. It's 5 years since I got back into wearing a watch, I have only sold one in that time, so there's still a few Archie's :D in the collection that simply don't get wrist time anymore.

The Longines, thanks to Wibbs I got in on time with these. One from the 1950s, 60s, 70s and 80s.

    529121.jpg

The Germans, I can safely say the Damasko gets the most wrist time, the Steinhart is on permanant loan to Mrs. B.

    529122.jpg

The Chinese section, I think the pair of these were bought for €200, had to do a review though;)

    529123.jpg

Top one is a quartz, bought for Mrs. B, bottom one has a Seiko NH35(?) movement. These are the only watches I bought new.

When I started off I stuck to a limit of €200, since then I've increased that a bit! Now I'm limiting myself to one watch purchase a year, at around €350 max.

I suppose the watch that has appreciated the most is the Pogue, just got lucky on evil bay, a Greek seller that nobody else wanted to take a chance on, I liked the black ring, it was a bit different, I think they were only sold new in Australia and perhaps Malaysia, but it could just as easily be a franken stuck together in the far east!

I hate the strap that the Timex is on so that needs replacing at some point as does the strap for the Yema.

I knew I'd seen some chatter about Yema on here over the last year or so and Kintaro's is a lovely one.
Anyway imagine my surprise when I came across a Yema Superman on Kickstarter!

    https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/yemawatches/yema-superman-bronze-limited-editions?ref=android_project_share

Not backing this one myself as I am still on restrictions from buying and have 2 more watches in the way the Mrs knows nothing about yet ;)

That said if it wasn't already sold out I'd be checking the GMT out I'd say.

    Last SOTC post
    https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057397596&page=7

Soooooo there has been some changes since my last SOTC. All the time at home allowed me some time to look at my collection and decide what I am aiming towards (or even what I like). My tastes have focused drastically in the last 24 months or so, to the point that they are very niche. While there are 1000 watches that I would “like” to try if I had the opportunity there really is only handful of brands, I have a genuine gra for (and a handful of watches from each brand at that). My tastes have firmly moved towards sub 40mm watches and sub 9mm thick. In general, simple three handers preferred on leather, rubber or Nato.

Having finally come to terms with what I like I moved the collection towards that. Life is too short to not be wearing your best watches, and I don’t mean that from a financial perspective but rather if you don’t love the watch then it is simply a blocker to watch you will love. I think a lot of people get too caught up in the “watch journey” instead of just buying what they actually like. End up trying to define which diver they need, which dress watch, which chrono etc.

    Outs
The Omega speedmaster professional, it had never struck a cord with me. The most overrated “meh” watch ever. I actually really like looking at pictures of speedmasters, I think they are a great watch but the way people fawn over them makes me yawn. I think the fawning is partly down to the fact they were fairly good value for the quality of the time piece, given the proce rises Omega are working hard to erase that USP.

The Omega Skyfall went. I think that was the first watch I bought on TZ, from “Coots” if I recall. A firm favourite in my collection for a long time, and absolutely untouchable. Gone now but easily replaced if needs be (not likely easily replaced at the price I sold it at though!). I miss it a lot less than I thought I would.

The Planet Ocean went also. This one hurt, the longest in my collection at around 8 or 9 years. I remember collecting it on a hotel, I was in Galway for the weekend celebrating a wedding anniversary. The seller was a little late so I has to leave mid-dinner (and ignore the pish taking from my wife about me bringing her to Galway to meet a man in a hotel to buy a watch)………to meet him in the lobby to view and ultimate strike the deal. This is one I miss and I am a little sorry I let it go, especially when I didn’t need to sell to buy or anything like that. But again, easily replaced if needs be. I have ended my great love affair with Omega (thought that new blue/white silver snoopy is drawing my attention!!!)

The Nomos Ahoi is also gone. Really liked this but it just wore a smidgen too big for my liking. There are not many Nomos that I don’t like.

Stowa Marine Classic-gone. Class watch IMO but ultimately the while dial and blued hands were too close to a look what I was looking to purchase.

    Ins
Soooooo what came in. I am trying to work on quality rather than quantity and not be buying to try so just the one major incoming as below. A Lange and Sohne 234.026. I almost went for its slightly cheaper brother the 235.026 (no up down indicator with sub seconds at 6 o clock). Glad I didn’t. This watch is stunning. Perfectly balanced dial, just the right amount of colour with the blued hands and smidge of red on the up down indicator. Beautifully simplistic yet very complicated.
    DSC01470.jpg

    DSC01492.jpg

    Collection stands as below now
    Vacheron Overseas 1st generation Blue
    Patek 5167
    ALS 234.036
    Stowa Antea Crème.

    DSC01436.jpg

    DSC01440.jpg

    DSC01452.jpg

    DSC01456.jpg

    DSC01462.jpg

They are a wonderful collection, albeit a little delicate. Next……...who knows.
None of the above 4 will be moving any time soon (though I had considered turning the 5167 into a complicated Patek but in general I do tend to like 3 handers rather than complications so it doesn’t make sense to do so other than an attempt to satisfy a small amount of hubris to have a complicated Patek).

    On the list of wants………..

    • A JLC ultra thin moon (Q1363540). That’s the white gold version with the grey face. Could be temped by the SS one at the right price but I do feel like I would be settling if I went SS.
    • A Patek 5296G-001 (the one with the sector dial)
    • ALS Saxonia, an automatic version as a preference perhaps with a moonphase.
    • A Nomos of some sort (world time midnight blue is amazing but at 11m thick is likely not on point for me). There are not a lot of Nomos I don’t like so a lot of flexibility here really.
    • AP 15450 as a maybe, this is a little smaller at 37mm that the real in demand version, so would like to see to try for size.
    • Still have a yearning for a blue Monaco, may have to scratch that one just for the sake of it.

The Adolph is a contender for the prettiest watch owned by anyone on this forum. Just stunning.

Thats some collection, fair play to you. I agree with Unkel that the ALS is probably the nicest watch on here, its just stunning. They're a grail beyond a grail for me but I think they are probably my favourite brand just based off videos and pictures. The design and finish on them is amazing.

It's also really interesting to see someone get so focused on what they want in their collection. You've had the balls to clear out some old favourites to do so to. Probably the right move but I reckon there'll be some hot sunny day sometime and you'll have a yearning for that orange planet ocean! Its always nice to have something a bit funky. At the same time they are damn big watches and well past your current taste profile so maybe it was the right call.

A JLC is kind of the obvious choice for you next imo as they basically specialise in exactly what you are looking for. A SS moonphase similar to what Fitz has is my grail at the moment but as you know they have tonnes of precious metal options. A left field choice considering your grá for thin watches could be a Piaget perhaps? I don't know a lot about them being honest but they seem up your ally. The question has to be asked though, do you actually need another watch? Probably not is the answer, its bang on near perfect!

That's some collection 893Bet, and I think that you have done the right thing trimming the numbers down. We have talked a lot in the background, and I know you were torn over getting rid of some of the omegas, and I know you didnt need to sell them to fund your purchases. However I think that keeping the collection at a consistent level is worthwhile. You always have something special on, and nothing is getting "saved" for good wear.

My opinion on the next piece would be something sports stainless, the AP 15450 is a great choice, although they are getting thin on the ground at the moment for any price, it would also complete the trinity. Stick a rolex in there and that a perfect 5 piece. I am jealous to be honest, glorious.

lovely collection 893, for me as well 4 / 5 watches is the sweet spot, any more and im just not wearing anything enough. i tend to only change once a week though.

are you tempted to cash in on the PP? i got to that point with the hulk although you would probably have to be happy not to own one again (at least a stainless steel one!) would it be possible for example to turn the PP and the VC into a 15450 + a new VC overseas?

Ps the ALS is one of the nicest watches around, doubt you will meet anyone else wearing one on these fair isles!

That is high praise given the quality of the watches on the forum! The level of finish really is incredible.

When you consider this, a solid gold watch with incredible movement against the “new” Rolex sub being offered at 14k euros on greys, and hulks are up for 18k.....while obvious entirely different watches......it is a head scratcher

That is really is why I am missing the Planet Ocean. I am having sellers remorse and would buy it back on the morning. I miss that little bit of sporty colour.

JLC firmly on radar and flirted with a few recently but I was driving for hard enough bargain prices as I didn’t really want the watches. Trying not to settle.
Plus when you are looking at watches above 5-10k and not from Rolex you need to be more careful purchases to ensure you don’t have to take a total bath on resale should you realise it’s not for you.

Piaget Polo is a little on my radar. Does seem a little like a poor mans Nautilus though. That’s the type of watch that is a real difficult resell in Ireland and I am reluctant to ship ever.

I will pretend I didn’t see your last sentence. Probably a typo. Think you included the word “not” in error.

The 15450 looks a good shout for me but it might just wear small at 37mm. Need to try on your AP which is 41 i think. might give some guidance. Impossible to try on wtahces these days due to CV19 and.....availability!
My Ego would like a trinity but, as you know when a watch is 20K plus its gonna be a harder shift second hand if you dont want to take a bath so buying needs to be more considered. My preference is now a fairly careful buy to keep for a medium to long term. Rather than a "but to try" approach.

And i am jelly as f%^K of your gold daytona and AP! I think a gold Daytona on oyster would look great in my collection! Or even a gold YM on oyster. Neither will happen though.

my friend has a 37mm AP and his wrist is smallish at around 6.5cm, he feels the watch fits well but the dial is quite small, so deffo one to try if you can, also he had to wait 6 months for one!

I have two spare spaces i the watch box. One, maybe 2 more is my spot 5-6. I rotate once or twice a week so with 5-6 watches each gets hot 1/2 times a month.

Yes was temptd to cash in the Aquanaut. I got it at a good price so could probably turn 15K profit on it (or could have 6 months ago, think they sodtened a bit since but still 8-10K in it). But I really like the watch. It hits me perfectly.

There is another ALS in rose gold that i have my eye on also that is semi available from a seller in Galway. A 233.032. Wll have a look at it sometime and maybe a make an offer. It is very similar to the one i have but in rose gold. Rose gold is startng to talk to me more so recently.

    Generally watchless.

I am rough as F34K outside. I had my ALS on last week when I went down to fit a new agitation point on the tank. Fairly quickly removed.

Watches, like jewellery, dont mix well with work, expecially manual work from a safety point of view. And i dont mean safety for the watch. More for my wrist. Skin on my wrist will tear far quicker than the strap on my watch.

That would be a concern. My wrist is 7-7.25cm, but it is a relatively flat.
