Hopefully we'll see new blood between the sticks next year.

Don't understand why an earnest effort to blood a new keeper hasn't been done before now.

That was a winnable game, even with the two goals conceded. Not happy tbh.

Hard luck lads lassies. Great fightback after that first half but the 3rd goal was killer.

I'd say Cork and Kildare are the two to keep an eye on next year.

If we have crowds allowed while still in division 2 then we most certainly won't be getting 10k at home games.

From a financial viewpoint this is horrendous for the county board trying to service that bloody loan.

Won't be any TV money either.

So us, Meath, Westmeath, Kildare, Laois, Cork, Derry. Is Clare the last team?

We will still get the crowds in
    Why wouldn’t we ?
People are not going to jump ship just because we got relegated in the league
And that’s assuming there are even crowds let in
We are only talking 12 weeks or so
Not a bad year to go down imo

    Exactly
And if they are motoring well in the league then the crowds will get bigger.

Plus there is far less Div 2 football on TV

You won't get some of the champagne supporters out for Derry on a freezing Saturday evening in division 2. If we did then I'd be utterly shocked.

Might be a few more season tickets might be available too .

People will still travel in big numbers to watch the reigning AI champions. ;);)

I’m more worried about Cillians injury than relegation and that’s the truth

    Down not Derry right?

Down had them on Head to Head and played a 2nd team against Louth today (and lost).

What exactly is the story on that ?

Cillian spends more time on the injury list than on a starting line up at this stage.

Actually yes I think that's correct.

Least we can laugh at Roscommon.

Why so when they are going in the opposite direction to us?

TBF as already mentioned this has been acoming for a few years.

We've managed more than our fair share of Houdini acts.

Big blow to Mayo GAA in terms of revenue streams and the team in terms of our absence from feasting at the top table.

    Defensively lots to work on.

We were really brought back to earth with the big bang after last week's performance but very heartened by our second half performance playing with the assistance of the not insubstantial wind.

Tommy goals Conroy is a gem.

Mark Moran will have likely learnt a lot more from today after all the superlatives post his MOTM performance last week.

No idea why Fionn didn't start today.

Tad strange the withdrawal of Darren Coen and Kevin Mc.

I'm guessing Kevin Mc was short on game time.

Ryan O Donoghue has much to contribute at inter county level.

It's long overdue to be planning for a successor to David Clarke.

    Colm Reape or Matthew Flanagan??

I travel to games with a group of about 20 friends, none of us will stop going to games now we're in div 2.I can't speak for all Mayo fans but in my opinion we'd still be getting 10k for home games especially if/when we get on a roll.
All of that is a moot point though as the league (If it starts) is about 10 weeks away and will be just at the start of the next lockdown, they'll be no crowds anywhere.
We really need to shore up that defender,we were cut open enough times against Galway to indicate its a problem, ditto Clarkie kickouts,it looks like we need a sweeper and we have the perfect player in Kevin Mac.We missed Aido in the middle,if things are going well its great to have him at 14 but you're robbing peter to pay Paul.
Lots of positives too,Conroy is some find,Mclaughlin did very well again today.and we have an excellent squad now with competition for places. Not much time too wallow in defeat and have championship in 2 weeks.

Sure aren't we playing Leitrim next weekend? All going well we were to be playing 5 weekends on the trot, 2 league games and 3 Connaught championship games.

Haha! more rattled than I thought after watching the game!
Yes of course its next weekend

In the most optimistic scenario I'd say we're looking at a max of 5k being allowed at National League games in Feb, but in my opinion they will be behind closed doors. So Division Two won't make any difference to finances next year, but we won't be on tv as much!

Taught ye were unlucky today very poor first half but dominated second half. O'se was quite compared with last week. Going down D2 no big worry will give manager more time blood more forwards. When mayo were at their peak forward let them down was the general opinion but some very exciting forwards coming through. Conroy looks the real deal. O Donohue has potential and then the likes of car mcdonagh durkan and the lad from knockmore. D2 will do them the world of good. Not looking forward to potentially facing ye in two weeks

I'd imagine we will be winning more games in Div 2 than they will be in Div 1.

Just trying to cheer myself up, no need to look too deep into it.

As mentioned, Div 2 could be a better fit for blooding new players.

Roscommon should not have been relegated last year, plus they beat Mayo and Galway in the championship

it was an unnecessary cheap shot. We've nothing to be gloating about tonight.

I don't see how division 2 will be a better fit. We blooded players this year and a lot of them look promising. The likes of Oisín Mullin and Eoghan McLaughlin need to test themselves against the top forwards in the country.

I 100% agree. Division 2 games are visibly slower in nature. Same with hurling. John Kiely ,the Limerick manager referenced that in his post game interview today. He said that they years that they spent in division 1b hadn't helped them progress.
