I'm "acquiring" the first episode right now

Had to abandon this for now. There doesn't seem to be enough "cousins" online to view it on an episode by episode basis (to see if I like it) at a speed that doesn't take ages

So it's Unsolved Mysteries: Volume 2 on Netflix this week. The first season was excellent

I've said in the past why we really shouldn't trust Netflix documentaries

But I did my homework on season 1 and the facts on it look very solid

I think Netflix bought this from a more reputable TV company, as opposed to the shams like Making A Murderer and Tiger King

The Boys is amazing, had that empty 'what will I watch now' feeling when season 2 finished recently.
Just finished Devs, I really enjoyed it but the wife was bored and gave up after a few episodes.
About half way through Lovecraft Country, it's very well made but the story is a bit incoherent at times.
Struggling through season 1 of Doom Patrol, finding most of the characters are annoying and the story is dull. 10 episodes in and I couldn't care less if they killed off any of the main characters.

Have a few on my to do list based on recommendations from this thread and elsewhere.
    Halt and Catch Fire
    ZeroZeroZero
    The Plot Against America
    Caliphate

It's a brilliant show. I think calling it the Italian Sopranos does the show a disservice.

Flicking through some of the comedy offerings on the likes of Sky Comedy, Comedy Central and E4 and my god is the standard very average overall. I don't know what an earlier poster sees in the Mindy Project and the latest comedy I saw (Schitt's Creek) fit its title brilliantly as even Eugene Levy's eyebrows couldn't save it!

It's almost as if humour was subjective...

I haven't seen it but the consensus seems to be "once you get past a shíte first season it gets better and better as it goes"

Yep, it's brilliant by the end. It didn't break Emmy records for nothing.

Might have been mentioned before but The Deuce is excellent! For some reason there was never any real hype after the first season but it just went from strength to strength in my opinion. The finale will stay with you for a long time

Netflix. Midnight diner. Totally nothing like our current real world .

Must add it to my list
The series concluded on October 28, 2019, after three seasons and 25 episodes.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Deuce_(TV_series)

3 big ticks for me there:
    • 93% on RT
    • It's actually finished, so no chance of an abrupt cancellation
    • 25 episodes total is a nice and not too big number

+1 for schitts creek. I thought it was great from the start. Mind hunter, don't f*ck with cats and Ken burns Vietnam War doc are great too. All on netflix.

+1 for The Deuce, it's a very well layered show that doesn't spoonfeed you. Like a classic Simon series both season finales are excellent. The first one for the choice of music, the second for being one of the most tasteful, elegant endings I've seen.

Watched Devs during the week, some good ideas and it was well shot, plenty of religious imagery and more than a hint of Kubrick. But I don't think the show is as clever as it thinks it is. Solid, but failed to fully grab me either. 8 episodes at ~45 minutes, so not an arduous watch.

One I definitely will recommend is FX's Atlanta. Did my second watch through and it's such a nuanced show. On the surface it's a straightforward premise, but once you go deeper than that it's got so much going for it. Very offbeat. Can't wait to see more.

    Oh yeah Mindhunter is great!
Usually skip over the intro in shows but you just have to watch and listen to it on Mindhunter, visually beautiful and sounds fantastic.

    Has anyone mentioned Snowfall?

(I started to write what it’s about but there at so many fascinating threads to it I don’t know what to prioritise - it’s set in LA as crack cocaine starts to make inroads there but there’s also a CIA/contras side to it and it has some terrific antiheroes.)

Or a French spy series “The Bureau” - I heard the head of the Uk spy agency - is it Mi5? - on the radio saying it wa the only one that he thought gave a realistic view of spy agencies.

”I enjoy cigars, whisky and facing down totalitarians, so am I really Winston Churchill?” (JK Rowling)

Kingdom on Netflix. MMA series. Very realistic . Don't need an interest in sports to enjoy it . Deserves more acclaim

Dark on Netflix is fantastic. Such a well acted and thought out show. Switch the English dubs off though change it back to German with English subs.

I can’t watch anything dubbed. Subtitles every time for me.

Maybe, never thought much of IMDB though, really found the premise hammy though, retired fighter struggles while his kids get into troubles with local mobs etc, love Grillo though (very underrated actor IMO), I'll give it another crack so.
