I'm so tired of all this ****e today I can't even do my daily "it's the schools" outrage.

The frequency of posting on this thread is data in itself in comparison with earlier in the year at similar levels.

    Public Interest is gone.

Did you watch a different briefing to me or are you being specifically obtuse?

I apologise for my thickness but what the hell does he mean by telling us all to behave as if we were close contacts? If we adhere to that advice, nobody could go to work, (essential or otherwise), or anywhere else because that’s what close contacts are supposed to do.
The country would grind to a halt.

How is COVID spreading so easily in care homes, hospitals and labs, where I think a poster said 6 of his colleagues tested positive?

I know it just takes one person to bring it into the workplace, but how is is spreading amongst the staff if masks should definitely be worn in these environments - or are they? Obviously it would be easy enough for patients to contract it as they are vulnerable and not wearing masks, but i’m surprised at the level of spread amongst workers in clinical settings.

Not all nurses will be fully vigilant all the time I guess -they're human beings like the rest of us.Some will on occasion be slightly careless, take chances , lose concentration ,get tired or be forgetful.
The virus does none of these things.

Pretty clear where it's being driven from at this stage. Socialising without precautions.

Hard to get a grasp on though. That age group are traditionally the least engaged. How do you convince them of the importance of being civic minded?

It's a step up from assume everyone has the disease! That's not the best message at all.

I bet you closing the schools will make all the lads suddenly not want to socialize anymore, why else would the number of close contacts go down in in the younger age groups? Not as if they're staying in stuffy rooms all day with little to no ventilation.

100 times greater assuming we are catching every single cases occurring. Presumably at least a significant proportion still arent being caught otherwise there would be no community transmission surely?

That’s because there are a lot of people who need to get stuffed.

Why are they blaming us? Telling us to behave as if we're close contacts.

This virus is airborne, you can do everything right and still end up catching this.

Is it easier to blame us?

There was a report in June that DNA analysis was being done to determine the origins of the virus within Ireland. (Cillian De Gascun?) Said it would be useful in a second wave. Has there been any further news on this?

The virus does none of these things.

You also have to take into account the type of care required by most nursing home residents :bathing, feeding, continence care, etc, can only be given through direct and prolonged and repeated contact. Staffing levels and unsuitable PPE ( basic mask, plastic apron and short gloves don't cut it when having to deliver that type of presonal care to numerous people). Have they got access to disposable smocks, long gloves etc and if not why not? The home helps are still similarly inadequately equipped unless they are caring for a suspected case. With community transmission so high it is only a matter of time before a staff member is infected and then you have a disaster like this.

Walking up the street this morning, 60 primary school kids being herded out the gates by two teachers. One giant huddle, no social distancing. Meanwhile my local which had to carefully separate out 15 punters is now closed. And before you say it, jog on with your "essential". The schools closed earlier this year for several months (excluding summer holliers), six weeks isn't going to break them.
