I've an 13.7km loop in the PP that I use, & stop at the car twice. Did it 2 weeks ago, fairly flat as well.

What route in the PP do you have if you don't mind me asking?

I've currently got a 10.55km that I was planning on doing x4 in the PP but it has a lot of unforgiving hills for 3 or 4km each loop. would love something a little flatter just havent found something that works particularly well

Sure! Just in work but I'll map it out later and send it over to you.

Edit- here's a variation of it on Strava, I shortened it a little & finished up outside the park. I'll get the exact loop later.

Check out my activity on Strava: https://strava.app.link/YbiP4W2RCab

If my calculations are correct you can maintain an allowed distance of 5k from your house and do a single lap of just over 30km!

31.42km to be precise. You could easily do the 42km if you added in a few dips in the circle.

Plus the 10km to run 5km away from your house and back again, then a lap of the garden and you're done.

    :D

When you put it like that, it's a piece of cake! That's my Saturday sorted!

The new lockdown with 5km limit [if that is right] means a lot of people will be running around their local park 150 times Im thinking

Are there any restrictions on how long you're allowed to spend outside exercising during L5? Was only 30 minutes during the first lockdown wasn't it?

Might need to smash the world record here.

Think it's 5km radius from your home so you can get a lot of road into that if you are lucky. Where I am I have a 13km circle that I could add on by heading out and back a few times to add more if I wanted. Plan a 4 loop run for next weekend all within 5km

No talk of a time limit this time. The phoenix park won't be so busy this weekend then

I think I'll be using Rizzee's 7mile PP lap this weekend. Tried it out for two laps yesterday and seems to be as flat a big loop as I'll get in the park. And all within 5km of home.

Where's the uploading link/details for manual (Garmin/Strava) uploads for this weekend? I'm on the EventMaster page and there's no option for Manage My Booking as per the Marathons FAQs?

They said it will be available at the weekend.

I'm screwed :(. I live in North Leitrim so there are hills in all directions from the house. I was going to do a point to point from home to Glencar and on to Drumcliff and finish in Sligo town but that's not going to be possible now. I'll have to try and figure a route with the most gradual incline but that's going to be hard. At least I've done most of my training around here so know those hills well!

Thankfully the 5km limit doesn't apply to me, but from looking at the 2kmfromhome.com site it's surprising just how much of all my training runs fall easily within that limit and that is even accounting for over half of the area in the 5km limit is either sea, container ports or only accessible via a footpath along the edge of a Motoway bridge with no other way back (except for running the same way) or breaking the 5km limit by 25meters to reach the only other river crossing.

I've got my approximate point to point route figured out now, but will possibly need to do an extra mile at the end depending on what the app measures. The wife then doing approximately the same route in the opposite direction after me, but with more coffee shops to stop at for refreshments.

Something to note from seeing people using the London Marathon app, if you are needing an extra half mile or so at the end don't run around in too small a loop as the app might struggle to map really small radius laps. Doing laps of the garden is potentially not going to register, straight lines are probably better.

I live across the road from the sea so half of my 5km radius is on the sea floor!

Just as well I'll not be adhering to the 5km ruling this time- Last time it brought me into closer contact with literally hundreds and thousands of people where my normal training locations (where I'd drive to and park up) bring me in contact with a handful (old national road and woodland fireroads).

People will be no doubt on this forum complaining about runners heavy breathing and sweating all over the place soon enough. Make zero sense to stop people from reducing their own situations, county restrictions would have allowed that.

There was no time limit but plenty of discussion around time limit. The usual 30 minutes for someone is a warm up where it could be a long session for others. You are free to run for as long as you like but stay within the 5km.

I think the time limit was originally implemented in the UK but not here.

Yes, except it wasn't. Just Michael Gove was asked a question about how long people could exercise for and he said an hour is good.

Unusually for the any government at the time that was more of a "doing this much exercise is good for you to keep healthy" response than a "don't do more than this because of covid19" response. The one thing that the UK government has got right from the start was the never putting any restrictions on solo exercise.

The last time the park was 'jammers' was 1979. Loads of space for everyone to do their own run.

I mean it was very very busy last Sunday...I would recommend an early start for anybody regardless

It shouldn't be as busy with the 5km restriction in place. I wonder will they put gardai on the main gates as it's the first weekend of the lockdown?

This should not be happening. It's a LOCKDOWN people. No-one cares when anyone runs it, so just run it instead in December.

Full disclosire: I've an entry for the v-marathon, also an entry for the marathon proper deferred to 2021, 4 time previous Dublin marathoner ... so believe me, I feel your pain. But still. stay the f**k abhaile next weekend.

Anyone in the park this weekend running a marathon needs a shoe in the hole.

Eh no.....it’s not a lockdown, it’s an increase in restrictions to level 5 where people are being asked to exercise within 5k of home amongst other things to get the numbers down. If you’ve decided not to do it good for you, there is nothing stopping others doing it in a safe way while not breaking any guidelines.
