This is going to sound pathetic, but it's good to vent.

My brother called over earlier to collect wood I was storing in my shed for his woodburner. Blah blah.

We had a coffee and a catch up about nothing, cos nothing is happening lol.

When he was leaving I just got very downhearted that we won't see each other or our families for many weeks to come. Fed up and thanks for reading.

    Why would it sound pathetic?

Just because there are a handful of ignorant people around the forum, doesn't mean we're all like that. :)

PMs always open if you ever fancy venting. I'm all ears! Same goes for everyone else :)

How patronising , I washed my own hands thank you and did everything asked of me. How dare he speak like that to people who are doing everything right
For an organisation who claim not to be apportioning blame or judgement, they really do chuck around a lot of unfounded presumptions.

Teachers, I hope you're listening - you haven't been washing your hands enough and you need to redouble your efforts.

I haven't seen one sister since last Christmas and another since Summer 2019. Absolutely no idea when we will all (incl Mum and another sister) be in the same place at the same time.
    Very depressing.
We were meant to all be together to celebrate Mum's significant Birthday over the Summer.

I don't think you will find many if any posters that are not sympathetic for cases like this, where we may not agree on things we all do want the best for each other.

Thanks for the kind responses folks. Just on a bit of a downer, but we got through before and will get through again.

There's always one or two. Some have been banned from these threads

Anyways, no point focusing on the negative

The way the numbers have been the last few days it looks like level 3 is somewhat reducing the numbers.

    With the schools open.

Are you saying that children's education should be sacrificed to save retail?

I think Boggles pig-kissing meme really broke the ice in here. It's a love-in, suddenly.

There's 2 of my children I haven't seen since last Christmas either, except over screens. I miss them very much. And rather a lot of other people too. But at least I can tone it down big time on the housework as there will be no unexpected visitors. Silver linings.

I was listening to the radio earlier and caught something from Lord Tony that the aim is to get to less than 100 cases a day by 1 December. Are they already putting a number on lifting restrictions? I am not against that although the reality is that we will need to see substantial progress by 15 November for the projections to point that way. Is that a Cabinet decision?

Honestly they learn **** all in schools these days anyway

A few missed months off no correctors, sorry teachers is not going to do them much harm

One of the ministers was on the radio last week and said not only should the public work harder at abiding by the restrictions, we should also "tutor' other members of the public on the correct etiquette... Sick of this holier than thou nonsense whilst half of them are running amuck, being paid thousands and not even having the decency to apologise but instead justify their actions to the hilt.
"So the government is encouraging you to report your neighbors if they don’t follow the new rule of gathering numbers. Before following this advice you should really consider the fact that the government won’t be there to help you jump start your car or lend you tools or a cup of sugar if you needed it. They won’t be an extra set of eyes to watch over your property if you are away. They won’t keep an eye on your kids if they are playing in the street and someone strange is hanging around. We need each other, it’s how we get by and live in peace, because at the end of the day the government won’t be standing on your door step to help you out when this gets real. "

I have a daughter in school and badly want to see the schools stay open but i must admit i do feel terribly bad for the teachers, SNA's, school bus drivers etc... who are basically been told you'll be grand even though they all know they are in a very poor place health and safety wise. With doors and windows invariably having to stay open throughout the winter for their own safety i wouldn't be doing their jobs for diamonds.

    Hang about... :D

I remember Ronan Glynn and Holohan, saying to avoid Microphones as they spread germs.

Should strip them of their mics next presser so. Put some manners on them

I'm the same, always been a happy go lucky kind of person, never really understood mental illness but always respected it, but finding myself really down lately about it all which is probably why I'm posting some crazy angry **** here sometimes. There has to be some people out there really struggling.

The costs of this lockdown are very high in many ways...

The financial cost of lost payroll and sales tax, increased welfare payments are around €1billion a month...
Many of these businesses will never reopen and will default on rent and rates payments leaving a black hole for local councils to try and fill either through cutbacks or loans from central government.. possibly adding another €.5billion a month onto the lockdown bill...

All those kids in schools now and their children thereafter will be paying for all this in adulthood..

What did he say to him?

Something along the lines of did NPHET take their eye off the ball because they recommended moving to level 3 and then level 5 because the data was saying things were getting worse (not really sure what point he was trying to make)
Tony then explained the virus was growing, told him you've been following this you should know what is happening and then gave an example of the R value - if i give you a euro today and 2 euro tomorrow and 4 euro the day after then how long til I give you a million

Idiots need to be told. That complete git who came back from abroad and infected 56 people needed to be told. The guys who came back from Cheltenham in March and infected everybody in their vicinity needed to be told. This disease is as dangerous as TB to some people.

I don't call school education, I call it filling in time for young people. 90% of it your regurgitating useless information you will never use again for an outdated exam like the leaving cert.

I think three days a week would suffice during Covid with half the school in for three days and the other half in for another three days.

They need to close the schools from mid Nov to the first week in March.

Go in Easter week and June+July for primary schools.

Go in Easter week+ June for secondary schools. Leaving cert in July.

This is the best solution for a once in a lifetime crisis.

This strategy of gardaí asking people to break up there parties is completely toothless. There needs to be a deterrent to holding a party in the first place.
