I think some of us, myself included, have to hold our hands up and admit we got it wrong...

We said back in March, April and May that the Government and NPHET were doing a great job in handling this...I was wrong! They've made a complete bollocks out of it

In and out of restrictions for the next 12-15 months is not good for people! It's an absolute nightmare!

Don’t forget that back in June Tony promised is there wouldn’t be a second lockdown

well that's not gonna be fixed in six weeks!

If they bring the army back in it would be. They were the ones running the majority of it in the first place.

HSE though has been advertising for hundreds of contact tracers recently. I know of a few Environmental health officers seconded into contact tracing but with brexit looming large they're to be redeployed to the ports come January so staffing will need to be improved.

Do they verify that your out of work or are they just handing it out left right and center?

No there was nothing apart from the online form, I'd a letter from my work but they never asked for it.

As for rolling out vaccinations, would it not make sense to use some of the Covid testing centres to do so?

problem for the government is that they cant win..if numbers increase like they have people get scared and call for a lock down, then when numbers go down the same people are looking for restrictions to be eased. my guess is we will be in and out of lockdown until a vaccine comes along.

Not that any journalists will bring it up, but if they do, he'll say this one is different because, I dunno, hardware shops are open or some other such minor difference.

Was it said at the time that the lockdown was to allow time to beef up the health service? I thought it was to flatten the curve so the health service wasn't overwhelmed.
Agreed. People are looking for scapegoats or someone to blame, which is understandable.

The lockdown was to reduce the number of cases to a low-enough level that we could manage them through some closures and test and trace. It was the plan that we would reopen slowly, and we'd know the point that cases start to rise.

That was all the plan. The politicians were forced to probably reopen too quickly, but it's difficult for them when other countries are all off drinking in bars etc and your population are not.

NPHET basically saying in the letter one of the primary reasons for restrictions is because contact tracing has collapsed and it will need to be remedied before restrictions are lifted.

Of all the relative easy and cheap things to do and HSE completely scrimped on it.

Getting in the fúcking Army band to contact trace.

They didn't learn that off the Koreans.

Government mention cost of restrictions a lot, would they not be better off investing in that to prevent further restrictions?

Interesting points, so we have one of the worst health systems in Europe and I think we will all agree this is down to the HSE completely mismanagement as they have been well funded. Nphet whose advise we are following is made up of the people that completely ****ed up our health system. Should we not question their advice with their track record.

Considering daily cases have been 1000+ and rising, what mitigation measures would you introduce to reduce the spread of the virus?

    I imagine not.

That's why stay at home restrictions are an abject failure from governance.

A couple of leaders in Europe have actually held up there hands and said we fúcked up and we will do better.

Mehole managed a sly dig at the public last night, I don't remember him pointing any fingers at his cabinet though.

Like I keep saying the only thing we can hope for is they learn from their mistakes which help cause wave 2 and remedy them before Wave 3.

    They won't though.

He should reign over this but he wont. Just like the cancer screening mess.

    Any idea why https://covid19ireland-geohive.hub.arcgis.com/pages/hospitals-icu--testing

shows an uptick in the 7-day positivity rate from 7.2 to 7.3%

    Tks

I was wondering that as well. If the average has gone up the rate for today should have been higher

What's actually involved in contact tracing that an individual can't do by just contacting everyone they were talking to (assuming they're well enough or with a person who is well enough)?
Many people will also have Location on their phones to remind them of where they visited too.

7 days ago had a lower than normal figure, this has now dropped off the 7 day average.

The source of infection is anonymous for one thing.

Part of contact tracing also is investigating outbreaks/clusters and giving instructions for how patients and their contacts should isolate/restrict movements.

I would give level 3 a chance anyway, we have had 7 days of stable numbers after exponential growth. Our deaths and icu numbers have remained stable, hospitals are no where near getting overwhelmed despite all talk of 2 weeks away. We have to learn to live with this and accept we are in a pandemic.

They're already set up sure as testing centres. Shouldn't be too difficult to keep em running for a vaccine.

I cannot believe they are openly admitting this isnt the last lockdown, and people are happy with that.

    - 1,269 cases

More cases in Meath than Dublin. With population difference that's huge for Meath.
