    I know that this is a statement of the blindingly obvious but this position is rooted in pure ignorance.

    I'd have thought that as knowledge of mental illness increased then the church would have become more enlightened.

    How the original idea of sin through suicide came about would have been someone taking what to them is the easier way out, eg to avoid consequences of stuff, like murderers in prison hanging themselves, that kind of thing.
