BAME communities seem to be harder hit in the UK aswell.

OH calm down will you all.

Let's see what tomorrow brings, but we kind of know. The big issue is those who will not observe, and how to deal with that really.

    Any suggestions lol?

Simillar to what? it's aiding the civil power in whatever role is requested of them - that's what they can be called upon to do.

I am not saying it is likely in these circumstances, but it is certainly possible.

Ugh, hard not to feel despondent. Went to collect my mums laundry from the hospital she's in at the moment, and by total chance she outside having a cigarette. Got to have a quick chat from a distance and it was brilliant. But got so deflated afterwards, that it just doesn't have to be so **** like this, but for the callous carelessness of a handful of people.

I'd still love to believe it's all about the message, not restrictions, and those having house parties etc., are just ignoring or oblivious to it. What about a simple community alert campaign, put up election style posters everywhere, "Don't party....just yet"

All sorts of events were cancelled but you could still go for pints with your friends, shake hands with people, get the shift, etc. It's not all that comparable IMO.

So all that is need is to get laid and you be okay. Well I can certainly empathize with this have not got it for a long time either and no I am not asking!!!!!:P

Put down the cans, bottles of wine and whiskey right now. Or shut the F up Sorry.

This is serious sht now. But as long as the naysayers can do what they want, what is the point anymore. That need to be tackled I think.

No they are not crapping there pants at lockdown. They are crapping there pants because they are asked to do a few basic thing for a period of time (1 year to start of summer) and screaming our youth is ruined I can't go travel (but they still can as the airports are not closed) or do drink and give the kiss of life to the one they fancy (try meeting people other ways)

This will all end and you can go on your piss ups, the travel to find yourself and still not care about anyone else next year and still be young)

Right now we are asking for a bit of cop on and a bit of strife to help the people who need it. Can you not do that????

The problem is young people know they are not in danger from this virus, the messages about greater good are being ignored the same as they would be by every generation of youth. Teens and young adults have always believed themselves to be invincible and that's still the case.

We need to face that fact and work with it, all the messaging is falling on deaf ears. I'm not saying for a second this is a good thing.

We had 7 months now to find better ways to protect the vulnerable be it increase hospital capacity, better testing and tracing and have failed.

Measures like curfews will be easily to get around for people who want to so is a pointless use of resources that will only affect genuine workers or carers trying to do their best.

Tbh all of this is kind of a mute point imo because any logical thinking would suggest schools and workplaces are where the virus is spreading at present. Traffic nationwide has stayed at the same levels since the latest round of restrictions, people are going to school and work as if nothing has changed, with schools staying open this is unlikely to change this week

Maybe the lads are right in calling for off-licences to be shut. People have gone mad. I can't believe there are so many idiots that actually want to see the Armed forces out dealing with this stuff

Your right, but there are far too many “ill
Do what I wants” , “covid just kills the old”, “sure I’m invincible”...

Vizza Vee the army being deployed "on the streets" --

Weren't they used to distribute the shipments of Chinese protective gear from the airport ?

Don't they accompany cash deliveries to banks ?

Did they not help clear snow a few years ago ?

    Think before you type !!!

Oh it is. Just have to listen to Phil Ni Sheaghadh now and then of the INMO. Fair dues to her.

It means Thank You For Your Service, and everyone acknowledges that for all of you, for us, make no mistake about that.

We haven't even got our pay rise from that one and only strike a year , no , nearly 2 years ago now .
Student nurses are working on wards full time , since this began being counted as workforce, but called interns , and only being paid a student allowance .
So yes Phil has had to call that out . Slave labour .
Also multiple staff infected are not being paid while out sick , although acquired illness when at work , and are expected to go back to busy wards as frontline because they are classed as immune , whether they are or not .
Covid not being classed as an occupational illness , like TB or Asbestosis .
Nurses turning up for work to be told their wards closed and they were working somewhere they had never set foot in or had no experience of working, sometimes in another hospital
Staff being redeployed during the summer not for Covid reasons was sneaky one by the HSE . That was not meant to happen .
Nurses were left without any childcare during the first lockdown.
    I could go on .
    TYFYS indeed .
That is a very patronising phrase , but I am sure you didn't mean it that way .

Nursing unions have not stood in the way of any improvements or measures Covid related .
Most issues are being raised but won't be dealt with till after this is all over .
I don't know about the other unions tbh .

There are not too many actually calling for it, to be fair. There are however a greater number saying that it simply can't or will never happen.

When in fact, it has happened before and can happen at any time, all it takes is for the word to be given by government and the army is duty bound to respond.
It is actually a government inbuilt failsafe option.

I don't get the point of this statement. Being afraid of war isn't cowardly. It's the natural and intelligent reaction to it. It was traumatising for anyone who experienced it no matter what period they lived in and definitely not something everyone should be expected to face bravely

I don't know why but some older folks seem to think that WWII was an exercise in character building rather than a horrific conflict that left 60 million people dead. Too many John Wayne war films I guess.

They are, but some similarities exist

namely, they're the army and they're on the streets

I guess an engagement policy would be very important, pursuit, apprehension, defence, etc.

I'm beginning to see the problem to be honest

We don't need the Defence Forces for crowd control. That's a job for the AGS.

I wouldn't be comfortable introducing curfews or even fines (other than businesses deliberately breaking restrictions, maybe) - it's not the kind of society I want to see. None of these were needed in March/April, so I don't think they are needed now either.

They do crowd control too. Here on occasion in the past , but more recently and currently all over the world on UN missions.

Not a shock, poorer people who work the front line jobs are more likely to be infected. White middle classes are safe at home, zoom calling.
