We dont have elite level sports in Ireland

A few elite level athletes, but not sports

No point closing gyms if schools are open, no point closing anything.

    Why are they so stupid?

Rugby is classed as elite for Pro14. In fairness gyms are more risky then schools and there's a mid-term break upcoming. I think they should extend it by 2 weeks and then move all teaching from 3rd-6th year online. 15 and up can spread it just like anyone else.

Trump felt 20 years younger after contracting it.

He looked great in all honesty

Why has the county by county approach been binned. I live in a county with very low rates. I can’t see any need at this point in time to move us to Level 4/5.

The cases are so high and spread nationally it's no longer possible for targeted control measures to work, so only way forward at the moment is national restrictions unfortunately.

Forgot about pro rugby, right on that

Not sure on gyms, one I go to is mask only entry, while 4 year old and 8 year old are sitting with heating on with 50 other kids with no masks.

Any suggestions for adequate broadband to allow a couple of kids study from home while one or two parents try to work from home? Why can't get a decent mobile phone reception to make calls let alone have fast or reliable broadband.

What’s the infection rate for 4-8 year olds?

    Ok wasn’t aware of that.

    https://www.laoistoday.ie/2020/09/15/coronavirus-357-new-cases-as-unfairness-of-laois-kildare-and-offaly-lockdown-highlighted/
Kildare had 82.25, Offaly had 80.81 and Laois had 69.66

    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Eki8kyJWMAAmAQQ?format=jpg&name=large

The 14 day incidence rate from the above article compared to the image above (showing the current 14 day incidence rate of every county) clearly shows that the 14 day incidence rate of every county is above Laois Offaly and Kildare when it went into lockdown.

County by county can work but not when the virus is rampant everywhere.

Will the measures take effect from midnight Monday or Tuesday?

Yes, 15 and up can spread it just like anyone else, however, all of the evidence suggests that it doesn't spread in schools.

Think about it. Controlled conditions in schools versus 15-18 year olds running around feral all day. The school situation is much safer.

Interesting that gym is mask only entry, think it would be fair to allow gyms remain open if they could enforce mask wearing. In terms of schools I agree ,with cases so high it is inherently risky to allow this.

Pfizer vaccine incoming lads. Its all over.

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/williamhaseltine/2020/09/23/covid-19-vaccine-protocols-reveal-that-trials-are-designed-to-succeed/#6bfbeed85247

“We all expect an effective vaccine to prevent serious illness if infected. Three of the vaccine protocols—Moderna, Pfizer, and AstraZeneca—do not require that their vaccine prevent serious disease only that they prevent moderate symptoms which may be as mild as cough, or headache.“

    What does that mean?

For 3rd to 6th years? Government will need to feature this into plan for moving some education online. Schools could also offer help in this regard to these students.

It means it can go to market even if it is only marginally effective and will save few lives.

How controlled are our schools though? Class numbers are high and so is virus transmission, the two don't go together. It will spread if community transmission exists in high numbers. They'll still be learning just online.

No offence but that's just waffle. Two weeks to mid term, so what will provide sufficient broadband for a couple of students plus parents WFH? Schools can't help beyond lending a few tablets, if they have them. Government can't magically rollout broadband.

It's great to throw out these seemingly easy options but they don't work jn the real world.

I know that, you know that but nphet are so focused on numbers and data they've lost sight of human behaviour. The constant leaking of 'advice' and the never ending changing narrative has left many people in fear and anxiety. They're left doing things that on the face of it seem irrational but to them they're doing what they deem necessary.

Not only that but if kids are at home learning remotely parents need to do their job and ensure the kids are home and not out socializing.

Mid term is extended break. Really funny that Jim, it works for other countries, it's not nuclear fusion we're discussing. Whether there's political will is another question entirely.

They have noses, eyes, mouths like the rest of us

Yeah they've enforced it since June

They enforce masks in retail, hairdressers etc too and closing them in level 4

Makes no sense to do that

Oh not panic buying again. Will people ever learn? The people that were doing the panic buying back in March should be too ashamed to do it again.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

And the same people who want full. Lockdown will be happy to go out and resume normality because the man on the telly told them its okay. At this stage the corona virus is an infection of the mind, as much as it is of the immune system.

Also, remember the articles about bins full of unused food? People stocked up on food they didn’t have a hope of using before it went off.

It is easier if you say you don’t know.
How many 4-8 year olds in hospital, among the 260?
    How many in ICU?
How many 4-8 year olds have died from the “lethal virus” as RTÉ describe it?
