Just goes to show how incredibly thick people are in general here.

They're not thick, people are panicked. The food shops won't be closed but at the same time people might not want to visit shops as regularly so they feel they need to stock up now.
There was couple in front of me in dunnes today with 2 full trolleys, excessive yes, but maybe they were shopping for vulnerable family or neighbours.

The irish media is creating a smokescreen to get away from the government failings. Just spend all day discussing npet and levels and let the fools buy it.

100%. The problem is, much of society are buying into their BS.

Poland planning to ramp up training for nurses and considering creating military field hospitals, as situation deteriorates. Czech Republic also plans to call up thousands of medical students.

That's awful what's happening over there. Hopefully they can get a handle on things.

Why do people care so much about people buying stuff? It's called stimulating the economy plus it's only the person's business if they're stocking up on pasta or whatever.

Do people expect the government to just make a decision like this with a click of the fingers?

So many people foaming at the mouth for them to announce level 5. These people clearly aren't thinking about the tens of thousands who will be out of work, out of a business again overnight...

What are the ** next to Monaghan and Leitrim? No cases as the test centre closed for some reason?

Less than 5 cases so they don't report for data protection reasons I think.

If you look at the NPHET document they do go down to specific figures for all counties in their county breakdown, although they go back two days for such stats. If they say perhaps 0 for a county but someone knows they have tested positive and they think they should be in today's figures (and they may actually be in tomorrow's) it maybe helps avoid confusion/questions.

I don't get the big issue with the contact tracing backlog. If I discovered I had covid, I would simply contact everyone I had been in close contact with, out of courtesy and let them know so they could get tested of they wanted to.

Why are people not capable of doing their own contact tracing in general or if they were in a workplace, let the workplace now, a beer garden, let the owner know why?

    Surely, it's only common decency.

It's because when the next person comes in for a bag of pasta for their dinner there is none there as some asshat has his garden shed full with pasta at home for no reason

Was talking to someone in contact tracing. They said at the start of the day that has 1100 calls to make for level 3 calls(informing contacts). They managed to get through 800. When they were finishing the backlog was 2100!!. Contact tracing on a knife-edge.

Ah here, NPHET don't give a bollocks about contact tracing. It's easier for them to lock down the country than to do anything pragmatic.

They had less cases than us for ages. We're doing as well as anyone in Europe.

He also advised the nursing homes not to restrict visitors. That worked out well.

Is there anyway we can get over this. I genuinely believe he is doing his best to keep us safe. Im sure he doesnt want covid to rip through the country, what good would that be, imagine if the kids cant go to school or creche and loads of staff out sick. Do people really think he wants to to go to level 5 for the craic and Philip Nolan, and Glynn and Colm Henry.....all want this. Imagine christmas with loads of cases every day and more deaths and people singing around the christmas tree while their colleagues, family friends are either sick in hospital or at home stuck in isolation being miserable. Then you have people with very little symtoms going into work and all the misery associated with that, managers not managing, staff all uptight. Come on, im sure he not saying all of this to MM and LV just for the laugh....

The rate is still growing slowly in Dublin despite L3 for 4 weeks. That's what I find worrying.

This makes the case for a nationwide L5, clearly. These numbers needed to fall much faster than that to avoid it High rates in he likes of Monaghan are of course concerning. But have nothing like the modelling impact of sustained, even if stable, high absolute numbers in Dublin, in the projections for ICU capacity. Which is the real push for Level escalation. The numbers in Dublin are simply too high now, and cannot possibly fall quickly enough to keep the hospital numbers low in the coming weeks.

I fear it is already too late. The projections were there a fortnight ago, and the government position of economic support preparation and delayed that.

The virus doesnt wait until the mood of the people is right. The country is in for a rocky ride now for two months. Which makes the still seemingly live discussion about L3, L4 or L5, waiting to see what happens, reviews on Thursday and so on, a surreal and slow coming to terms with the inevitable rather than a real consideration. Announcement on L5 nationally would be my advice to the committee.

This, several stories on Sky news from March where frontline workers went shopping after a shift only to find the shelves empty. Selfish , self centered pr*cks.

Poland is big into its Speedway and there have been a number of World Championship events televised live - I've been very surprised at numbers attending, lack of social distancing and not many wearing masks.

I think some countries did very well (including Ireland) in the "first wave" and thought they could relax things but locals have maybe assumed it was under control and simply did not expect it to blow up again resulting in people being lax as it has ramped back up

Because when you go to the shop, you’ve to stand around for 10-20 mins while all the panic buyers are in there buying industrial quantities of food that’ll probably never be eaten and that there is no need to bulk buy anyway. It’s just more selfish knee jerk carry on.

I freeze a hape of pieces of dough at one time and defrost them on the morning we're having pizza. Don't worry, I'm going to post the results in the eatening later. I think I've put on a stone this week comfort eating.

Every day they waste could be another week of needing restrictions. This is time wasting on a criminal scale.

Honestly, I think everyone is doing their best at the top level. Problem is people are frustrated, and scared sh1tless in some cases.

So the natural reaction is to lash out and blame someone. I'm guilty of it myself, like when I tested positive I was looking for someone to blame.

But the truth is it's no one's fault. It's a once-in-a-lifetime pandemic and nobody, career politicians, experienced healthcare professionals, virologists, nobody has dealt with it before.

Yes there have been mistakes on all fronts, but that is part of dealing with something you have never encountered before. It's a lot of trial and a lot of error.

I mean this post is likely to be attacked with various failures of both the government and NPHET and while they ring true, I absolutely have no doubt they are trying their absolute best for the good of the country.

I just sometimes wish they stopped playing the 'game' and were 100% honest with people. But maybe the truth would scare us even more, I dunno.

Of course, that's because you are a decent person. Unfortunately we have a fairly high percentage of people not even bothering to turn up for tests because they aren't.

Speedway is huge in Poland to get around restrictions they ran all there events in outdoor arenas to avoid number restrictions on spectator's and social distancing and avoid the need for masks to be worn

Well the first reccomendation was for 4 weeks, the next was 6 weeks. The more the government shítearse around the longer any level 5 will be as it is getting worse by the day.

Any thinking about business will surely understand that the shorter the Level 5 the better as the sooner they can reopen.
