Previously, I asked about HSE recruitment of healthcare workers. This article from May goes some way to answer my question.

We're doing that at the moment. Doesn't look like a move to level 5 is on the cards judging by media reports.

At what threshold of new cases / hospitalisations should we wait for before moving to level 5 in your view?

Yes, also some people get tested on day 1 and again day 7. If they're still positive on that second test, it's a positive test but not a new case

So Marc McSharry is advocating we move to level 2 and is telling the world and his donkey that he has wrote a research paper on why we should move back to level 2!

Given that the Republic is much less densely populated than the Australian state of Victoria, why would it need a 6-week Level 5 lockdown?

Assuming I'm reading wiki right, we're higher density. Victoria has 26 people per km. Ireland has 77 people.

Except people are not social distancing inside shops. It's back to being a family day out for some.

They might be social distancing at the checkout.

3 shops I was in last week where it wasn't being observed properly at checkout either .

Encountered the family day out as well .

I feel symptoms on Monday. I ring my gp. I get a test on Tuesday. My condition worsens on Tuesday night. I ring the ambulance and get checked into hospital. The hospital runs a test. Their labs can be quicker. I find out Wednesday morning from the hospital that I'm positive and Wednesday night the testing centre contacts me. I'm in the system twice as a positive.

Or I get tested Monday. The result is low positive. I'm told on Wednesday I need to be retested. Im counted as a positive swab but I'm not a case as I'm considered to be a potential false positive. My retest comes through as positive. I'm now 2 positive swabs on different days but one positive case.

Some people say that the swab totals are midday to midday whe the case totals are midnight to midnight. I'm not certiin about that myself though.

They might be social distancing at the checkout or going in the door but lots of people wandering around shops, touching everything they see, like a normal shopping day not in the middle of pandemic.

Stopping to chat with people they meet, masks under chin, nose sticking out of mask, or no mask. Touching their face mask then touching the goods.

Huge amounts of crowds inside some shops with no social distancing.
Exactly what I seen with my eyes in Dublin City Centre this morning in the shops and shopping centres like Jervis and Ilac, couldn't wait to get out. Too much of the population and retailers still do not get it or do not give a fck

Also too many still on the DART today heading out to Howth for a day out with no masks on or wearing them below the nose or chin

The same people spreading this virus around now will continue to spread it in December, next February, next April, next June... I give up.

Sorry yes you're right. The suggestion 2 weeks ago was to jump from level 2 to 5.

In other words hand another bonanza to the large multiples as happened in March.Essential retail did not stop the Tescos etc not content with selling grocery and household, they had big clothing sales attracting crowds to their stores at the expense of small owner run retail closed. But sure we are all in this together.

Our experts in one area have. We also need to balance it against experts in other relevant areas to our society.

So are we getting an announcement today?

Surely they have to get something out there. Can't just leave it until Monday?

Absolutely no clue. All I know is the plan is a complete and utter waste of time as the levels keep changing with no reasons given for why.

There doesn't appear to be any actual criteria for moving a county up a level (or two), or criteria for defining if the measures are having the desired effect.

I fully expect this to end with a 12 week + full lockdown. Lack of enforcement of measures or full buy in from a lot of the public will see to that.

    This question of balance.

There is an implicit suggestion that both things need to be done at the same time.

That is a nonsense. Quite the opposite.

We can restrict economic activity now to ensure growth later on. That is the optimum in terms of public health and economic well-being.

The supposed NPHET government tension is down to months of rightly accepting NHPET advice at face value. Now, "Hold on we need to think about this" is a reminder of what government does or should do and that it is advice to be considered not to be put into immediate effect.
