If you want to be pedantic, the peno for United (that satisfyingly seems to really annoy some) was from an incident that happened in play. I didn’t see it but technically if a player was offside when the incident happened, then the incident didn’t happen in play.

But I don’t think that should matter, players can be sent off after a game has finished. Sounds like it could be the old England international benefit of the doubt card being applied. If it’s as bad as some are saying, Pickford should be off.

It was one of those ones that can easily see a leg get broken. VVD looked to have his foot planted and Pickford just jumped at him feet first.

    Edit: can't find a video but here's a photo.

Can only be described as a flying rodeo clown attempt at a clearance with van dijk's leg the ball apparently

This really does seem to be the derby of two **** keepers. 20 mins in and both are talking points already

Adrian and no Van Dyk. Everton should win this by 3 or 4

Pretty much a knee high slide tackle! A genuine leg breaker. I don't think their was intent(not that it matters) he's just an idiot.

Edit: Is calling a player an idiot for a challenge apologies if so

I don’t see the difference between that and a terrible tackle any other time in a game. The rules are there to protect players and to discourage dangerous play. It’s not rocket science.

Maybe in big games like this refs are encouraged to be a little bit more frugal with reds........................ And When it’s English international players are involved.. :pac:

I'd let him off with that given the power and how close in it was. Questions to be asked of the defence though.

Who said Liverpool players didn't dive before? :pac:

If it was De Gea, Alisson or Ederson they would have been booked or sent off I think. Bits of English bias in the decision I think.

Poor miss by Mane. Robbo cutting back this game has been brilliant

Tackle looks worse every time they show it

I really think refs need to stamp out that asking for a card thing. Book any player who shows the imaginary card every single time.

So dangerous and the player had to leave the pitch. Whatever anomaly in the rules allows that to be overlooked need to be looked at. Doesn't to any good to Liverpool today of course.

and it would self resolve after maybe 5 cards; the players would stop it. i'd also red card the players that surround and scream at a ref.

Exactly. Follow rugby and only allow the capitan speak to the ref. Anyone else going after him and they're given a warning, do it a second time and your booked. After a few weeks the players would cop on to themselves.

Did he not get a peno for that tackle?

VAR was looking at the whole incident, how they came to the conclusion it wasn't a Red card is dumbfounding

    But Pickford had to go,

No VVD was slightly offside when they drew the lines. Free out for Everton and no punishment for Pickford.

The VAR guys can see a ball barely brushing a hand yet can't see that.

i'd take a harsher line and issue reds. its currently not allowed but the sanctions aren't enough to cut it out. either that, or the ref's dont have the balls to enforce the rules.

offside or not, that needs to be a red for pickford. horrendous challenge.

They're saying on NBC that VAR didn't even review the Pickford tackle.
