No we didn't. And you brought religion into it. Not me. It's nothing to do with that either.

I was being a little facetious. Apologies.

We have made a mess of things here though.

No country in Europe has a harsher lockdown.
No country in Europe has a weaker health service

Unfortunately we will always run into situations like this while we have a corner of our landmass administrated by a particularly toxic and venomous branch of Europe's favourite pariah state, the United States of England.

No, I'm just not going to blame all of the South's problems on the prods.

We've made a balls of things all on our own, thank you very much
I have heard people blame the North but never a particular side, I leave that to the DUP

Big shift now in people's behaviour I am noticing . People naturally number one priority is health and safety to themselves and loved ones. Rates now at the minute are too big and people are adjusting. Letting the virus just run through the population not the appropriate approach if we want life to return to what something close to what it was.

The process was all over the place. The advice may end up being right but how they did it was a massive strategic error.

    No it wasn't.

They did everything by established protocol whist keeping the Minister for Health updated at all times.

I've no idea how you gauge trust.

But the numbers are the numbers.

The outbreaks on the border put us in a position where we are chasing our tails now. We can still do something about the colossal outbreak in the north being spread freely down here.

I'll tell you what I understand.

Very few deaths since June, despite numbers going up
Pensioners terrified to leave their homes
Other pensioners terrified of the isolation during winter time
Multiple of businesses on the verge of closing for good
Surge in depression and anxiety in Teenagers and Young adults
Cancer testing not being carried out
Mental Health issues in all ages going through the roof
    Unemployment at unprecedented levels
Medical professionals prioritising 1 virus over all other health related issues
Virtually no additonal ICU beds despite Government having 8 months to organise same
    And that's just for starters

All valid points but nothing to do with what I was referring to.

The US have the highest in the world.

It's meaningless unless looked at in detail.

I may have gotten the wrong end of the stick, I dunno - but I don't disagree with this at all.
I just don't apportion any blame to the North for it.

I'd like to think that asking people not to travel, North and South, would be enough to stop much of the traffic between us.
If needs be you could stick guards on the motorways, like they did in Bray etc.

    Fingers crossed nobody gets shot.

Essential manufacturing will remain open. Can't speak for the rest as I'm not involved in those sectors.

Yes. Especially meat factories Theyre the most essential

Non story about covid numbers in the hospital, just look at the HSE operations report and it tells you the amount of beds taken up with covid. Still 23 people on trolleys.... during a pandemic and winter flu season starting. Should really read as nothing changed, still not enough beds etc.

Yup but unfortunately most people don't look at the report or know it exists I'd say, another winter, same story as always. Nothing changes.

He's going to inadvertently break up the UK with his current antics, without even getting into Brexit.

Wales closing their borders to the English.

    Scottish independence never closer.

Even NI's Covid strategy is more similar to ours than it is the UKs.

Austria, Belgium, Croatia, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands and Poland all posted their worst daily case numbers yet. Seems like second wave is well and truly here unfortunately. https://www.irishtimes.com/news/world/europe/covid-19-who-warns-hospitals-across-europe-could-be-overrun-1.4383269

Have noticed this too myself. Even the people I know who were vocal about further restrictions as recently as last week are now on board with us moving up levels. Obviously this is just my experience but I think there are many people who are thinking "oh sh*t this is really happening," myself included.

Icu capacity. Isn't that metric that has been talked about most often.

Numbers in cavan look awful. The situation with community spread must be out of control

    ask the GAA up there

I was going to ring my granduncle how he felt about the latest set of restrictions. I couldn't though because he died in April. He was old so no big deal. He did have covid so could have lived another year or so. Was quite active.

Cork has a huge catchment are and always had a bed capacity issue. Patient numbers always go up coming into winter and add staff out sick.

I would also assume that if anything like Waterford they would isolate people while waiting for results, that would take up more rooms etc.

Like all the major hospitals ...everywhere is under pressure now .

I agree with this, definitely a big shift in people's thinking which is why I think we should stick to level 3 and give people a chance to fix this. If 90% of people do the right thing, the numbers will go right down
