Mmmmm, nice, yes, I've tried that one. If I recall correctly, very medicinal or mineral, perhaps?

Definitely one for the palette that is more accustomed to stronger flavours.

I still might make a purchase - has anyone tried any of them?

The Ratheadon seemed to get good reviews, from the initial release.
I thought the 1.1 was lovely.
Did I hear on the thread the 1.2 was even nicer?

So if in doubt, go for the Ratheadon, but there may be nicer releases out there :)

I meant to get the 1.2, as I'm half way through the 1.1. I thought it would sell out really fast again.
Then I bought a bunch of other whiskey instead.
They have the 1.2 in my local, and it's showing no signs of selling out anyway.

Long story short, he commented that there is something to do with food/beverage marketing around blue not being attractive, perhaps something to do with psychology or what not.

There's the "there's no blue foods" claim/believe (blueberries?) which may lead to this. Also food service plasters are blue due to their being very few blue foods and them generally standing out if they fall in to something!

I can't confirm about the 1.2 until I crack it open down in Sligo on Christmas day with the FIL.

But the 1.1 was an astounding drop tbf to it. So I wouldn't have any issue recommending the 1.2 as the one to get.

My Nc'Nean Batch.01 taster finally got delivered from Whiskey-Me.

Very nice dram. Sherry notes coming through which seem to tally with the Bourbon and Red Wine STR fills.

Sweet finish to it. But it's a potent dram to start although "fresh" on the tongue initially.

Light enough flavours I thought, so opened up the last bit with a bit of water. Lightened the initial taste, but didn't dull the flavour overall. Nice dram. But glad I tasted it this way rather than via a bottle I bought!

Had some nice samples from Highland Park last night. Won some whiskey too which was a wee bonus.

I finally got around to this last night. Great selection and of course I had to buy some afterwards.

Picked this up in Dunnes earlier @ €34.50. Had a €10 off €40 voucher too so basically paid just 1/2 RRP!

Might well have a sup of it later...

Trying Bunnahabhainn 12 side by side with Speyburn 10 this evening. They are very different. The Bunna is one to savour and is richer than the Speyburn. But I preferred the Speyburn’s cleaner, lighter taste on this occasion. The Speyburn 10 never really registers on people’s “best of” lists, which is fair enough, but what I was surprised to learn is that, according to Charles Maclean’s Whiskypedia, this was once in the top six bestselling malts in the USA and number one in Finland.

Do not crucify me, hear me out. 50/50 mix of Bunnahabhain 12 and Red Breast 12 and wee drop of uisce is pretty, pretty, pretty good. The Sherry influences from each whiskey work together quite well.

Is that the sound of pitchforks being sharpened? That actually sounds lovely though. Pity mine was only miniature bottle of Bunnahabhain

Do L. Mulligan have their tasting videos for download afterwards? I was travelling when the Whistler one was on, and thought I'd be able to catch it on repeat, but I can't seem to find a link for that.

Which one to go for next?

    Dark Silkie,
    Hinch peated or
    Teeling Blackpitts?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,741 ✭✭✭Effects

    Go for Blackpitts.

I tried a Dunvilles that was finished in a Laphroaig before that was lovely.

Bottle has just arrived so I will have a sample tomorrow. Also nice that it's included a "free square foot of Islay land" which entitles me to ground rent of one dram per year to be claimed at the distillery. :pac:

    Well?!

L Mulligans tasting on sale now for €34. I have 12 different Bushmill samples to try already so won't be doing this one!

Bushmills Tasting Friday 20th November 7:30 p.m. via Zoom
Some of you might be aware that Bushmills have launched a new cask strength whiskey set; The Causeway Collection. There are 9 different varieties in the collection but only 2 available in Ireland. The stocks are extremely limited and there won’t be enough bottles to go around. So we thought lets open up a few bottles for a tasting event and allow as many people as possible to taste them. We will be joined by Seamus Lowry from Bushmills for the event.
    The 2 new whiskeys are-
The 2008 Muscatel Cask 12 year old, first aged for eight years in oloroso sherry butts and bourbon barrels, it is then matured in rare muscatel casks for a further four years
The 1995 Malaga Cask 25 year old, is a rare single malt, aged for over 10 years in oloroso sherry butts and bourbon barrels before further maturation for an extraordinary 14 years in Malaga casks.
We were lucky enough to try these a few weeks ago and they are absolute stunning whiskeys.
Also in the tasting will be-
Black Bush- You can’t have a Bushmills tasting without it!
    10 year old Single Malt
    16 year old Single Malt
    21 year old Single Malt

I've never tried it either so I'm in. 30ml samples are more to my liking also.

Alas, a hot chocolate before bed ended up being the giddy height of my Saturday night!

Also have a fair few bottles open so might be best holding off opening it a while. Maybe I'll make it my end-of-lockdown celebratory treat! :D

First, welcome to Ireland!. A small bit of sociological information. Folks in Ireland do not buy glasses......they borrow them from Pubs. At present, most have enough stored BUT if the pubs stay closed much longer, there could be a crisis :D

Hi folks where do you buy your glasses?

You can sometimes find interesting ones in charity shops.

Local off licences will have Tuath or glencairn glasses for sale.

I signed up for a few online tastings during the summer, many of which came with free branded glassware.
Sometimes in supermarkets, especially coming to christmas, you will see boxed gift sets of whiskey & branded glasses from Jameson, Tullamore Dew, Writers Tears, Irishman.

Some decent savings at Supervalu, especially on the 1 litre bottles

Most of the distilleries sell the branded Glencairn/Tuath for €5 but doesn't seem to be as widely available in their online offerings. Think I've only seen Teelings have them but I already have one from a tasting during the summer. Would love to pick up a few more distillery branded ones if anyone has any links.
