How can they possibly stand over the non testing of close contacts in a school when there's a positive test? In every other work place every single close contact is tested.

Instead of socializing in pubs people socialize at home. Very predictable.

They know it's flu season and that this wave will be much worse but nobody wants to be the messenger. So the politicians are playing checkers with the public.

Looking at the numbers I wouldn't be surprised to see Level 4 next week.

What I found also funny is that it's old people who keep breaking the rules.

Neighbours in their mid 80’s. Carloads into the house most days. No masks. Crazy.

They'll never admit schools are an issue. FF put their reputation(whats left of it) on schools being open and declaring them safe.

FF/FG and The Greens. This cannot be blamed all on FF. There's 3 of them in it

Would I be right in saying hospitalisations are stabilising at the moment?

158 on 8 octobert. 238 today. Yeah it was 240 in between and came back but I'd say that's more a blip than a trend.

Did it list these peoples names in said advert?

There is if your signed off for a covid related issue.

The personal rate for this payment is €350 per week, as compared with the normal Illness Benefit rate of €203.

It will be paid for a maximum of 2 weeks where a person is self-isolating due to being a probable source of infection, and for a maximum of 10 weeks if a person has been diagnosed with COVID-19 (Coronavirus). If a person has been certified for less than 10 weeks, they will be paid for the duration of their certificate.

Apologies. I was under the impression the rate was dropped to 300 a week.

I think it is clear from trends in europe, this whole school experiment has been a complete disaster

About time somebody has the courage to speak up. What a disaster

Have you looked at any of the data at all? Young adults (19-24) are where we are seeing the biggest increase in infection rates, by far.
Philip Nolan specifically referenced this today.

Yes one day figures. 8,000 increase on yesterday. Hopefully an anomaly.

So i take it schools where all but glossed over yet again even though they are about the only thing left that could be driving cases.

Few tests on the day Paul Reid said out capacity is 18k a day.

You can only process swabs that have been taken. Swabs can only be taken if there has been a reason to.
There's no point swabbing people for the sake of it.

It's good to have breathing room in capacity if/when mass testing in particular settings is required.

More side stepping and citing old studies regarding schools. Henry in particular is the biggest mumbling waffler of the lot. I'm actually surprised at nolan stance on this, as he has been very credible in all other areas.

Our journalists dont even ask about the up to date studies on schools transmissions or SAGES findings that closing schools would be the most effective measure in bringing the r0 down.

So they obviously recommended L5. Next week we'll probably all be in L4/5.

Aye Enhanced Rate Illness Benefit is still in place till March 2021 at the earliest.

Pays the 350 rate for self isolation for 2 weeks, and if you're diagnosed with Covid it pays that rate for up to 10 weeks.

I'd say they will hold till mid-term then lock us down for that week at the bare minimum.

It depends on your earnings. It’s no longer a blanket rate because some low paid workers were earning less than 350 from working

Why do NPHET continue to use the term ‘community transmission’ as some sort of description for cases where nobody knows who they got it from.
With infectious respiratory diseases all transmission is community transmission.

    That's the Pandemic Unemployment Payment.

Enhanced Rate Illness Benefit still pays at the rate of 350 p/w.

Only requirement is that you have one paid PRSI contribution in the previous 4 weeks before applying.

Don't think so, they're trying to make it extremely clear the leaks don't come from their office.

The weather is also deteriorating, as we head towards virus season, people are less willing to stand outside shops/ houses when visiting in the rain and cold.
Schools are much like restaurants I believe in that they are controlled environments and yes certainly they contribute to covid cases, but right now I don’t think they are the main or even one of the main drivers. Winter could well be a different story however.

That's WHO terminology. Community transmission = not trackable as opposed to 'transmission in the community'.

Level 4 or 5 seems inevitable if these figures keep up

The only difference to now and that is closing shops really and that has little effect on infections. Restrictions worked in the first wave because of public by in, it's not there this time.

    Let it rip

Yeh, until it rips into someone you know or love.... see how quick you’d be on every social media platform then denouncing the strategy and the government...... nimbyism is not going to protect us from covid19

Any restaurant i have been to in the last 3 months has had a reduced cap on customers and adequate social distancing. That simply isn't true in our classes of 25-30 and the unmitigated mess at breaks and lunches. To say that schools aren't even possibly one of the main drivers is madness, everyone knows school settings are literal heaven for contagious diseases.
