We certainly can. Will need an increase in income tax./USC. A small sacrifice to make.

Tony is going to come round and rip you a new one if he sees you advocating that.

Course not, don’t want to alienate the deviants from society, but they’re quite happy to deviate themselves

Some terrible numbers coming out of France which has set a new record today.

    30,621 new cases
    1,207 new admissions to hospital
    219 new admissions to ICU
    88 deaths.

Covid sick pay available to all, €350 PW when signed off by a doctor due to either a positive test or isolation.

My mother's doctor put a code in on a form for her when she was waiting for a test, said to send it to social welfare and thats your sick pay

Wasn't the defense of Donnelly that he could have gone to work without symptoms and experienced them later? Presumably same applies here?

What happens if they go to level 4/5 and keep the schools open and it turns out they are a cause for spread?

It will just prolong level 4/5

That is a serious deterioration. It's the worst by far we have seen since this whole thing started in Europe.

You can tell by the rush hour traffic that people are back in offices in Dublin.

Drive for a living. Traffic in Dublin and the M50 in particular is nowhere near peak levels. I'd hazard a guess it's as much as 40% down on same time last year.

    Stop this nonsense.

We've unlimited borrowing ability at a tiny rate from a bank that can just print money from nothing.

They'll never admit schools are an issue. FF put their reputation(whats left of it) on schools being open and declaring them safe.

There will be Level 4 or 5 if cases continue to rise like this at some point public health will have to take precedence over the economy and yes it will be damaging and businesses will close and people will lose there jobs. A Government any government cannot allow a virus to run riot through the population and have the hospitals over run no matter what people believe.

Instead of socializing in pubs people socialize at home. Very predictable.

They know it's flu season and that this wave will be much worse but nobody wants to be the messenger. So the politicians are playing checkers with the public.

Looking at the numbers I wouldn't be surprised to see Level 4 next week.

What I found also funny is that it's old people who keep breaking the rules.

It would be a lot easier to fund level 5 for 6 weeks then back to level 3 for 6 weeks then back to level 2 than stutter on with level 3+ for 6 weeks level 4 for 6 weeks and level 5 for 6 weeks then back to level 3 for 6 weeks.

A lot of people do not get paid if they don't show up for work. It's not all about mental capacity, it can be about being in tight spot and needing money for rent and food.

Nobody wishes for level 5 tbf. 1,000 people getting sick a day isn't sustainable. People will inevitably be hospitalized and need ICU from these cases. It's about protecting health service and preventing people getting sick and dying. Need a short and sharp shock.

Great to see the full page advertisement re covid scaremongering in the Irish Times today. People who stand up for facts and freedom in the face of censorship/lockdowns/shaming will be remembered far more kindly in the history books.

There is no more 350 rate.

There is if your signed off for a covid related issue. GP puts a code onto a sick cert and its sent to social welfare.

The personal rate for this payment is €350 per week, as compared with the normal Illness Benefit rate of €203.

It will be paid for a maximum of 2 weeks where a person is self-isolating due to being a probable source of infection, and for a maximum of 10 weeks if a person has been diagnosed with COVID-19 (Coronavirus). If a person has been certified for less than 10 weeks, they will be paid for the duration of their certificate.
