Tony Holohan: "The number of hospitalisations is increasing faster than the exponential growth modelling predicted. That indicates a rapidly deteriorating disease trajectory nationally."

    241 patients in hospital.
    29 in ICU.

24 additional hospitalisations in the past 24 hours.

You can bring in level 10 if ya want people won't follow it. We've all just had enough, government need new strategy.

I wonder if this is because level 3 isn't restrictive enough or because too many people aren't following the restrictions?

People not sticking to the restrictions, but same people would still do the exact same even if it was level 5.
Some people don’t follow the guidelines at all

One thing he did say, a vaccine arriving at all "is a coin toss". That's reasonable given none ever arrived for SARS-1 and decades were spent looking for one for HIV. So what's the end game here, when, at what point in time, do we know there won't be a virus, we don't!

So what's the strategy here? Gerry also regularly asks that question.

Where I don't agree with him: eradication is not possible. So what's the end game? We cannot rely on the arrival of a vaccine.

Regarding SARS 1 vaccine, there were complications in animals, and before further development of vaccine the disease apparently disappeared:

If only our public health experts had advised our politicians of deteriorating numbers

If only they’d had this knowledge..

Let me guess....The CMO said it was very concerning and the HSE said it was very worrying.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

    Level 4 and enforce WFH.

There is no new stategy. The only only strategy is zero Covid
Which means we need a full lockdown for longer

The refusal to rethink the strategy is mind boggling. It has been obvious for some time that the herd had started moving again. There will be no large scale buy-in to restrictions as we know them. FFS someone in authority has to start thinking outside the box and be prepared to look at all options.

There isn’t a new strategy. It’s not something you just get tired of and move on. It’s happening all over Europe. Ultimately it’s down to people and their behaviours.

Level 4 or 5 seems inevitable if these figures keep up

What about the 1000s of people being made go to work every day in defiance of the work from home plea by the government? My employer is one of them. Absolutely no reason for me to be in the office - meetings are still virtual and nothing I do requires me to be in the office, yet I'm still having to travel 2.5 hours by public transport to be in an office with a couple of hundred other people.

    It's rampant everywhere :(

The levels won't matter, it's strict enforcement that's needed and high on the spot fines

Perhaps if there was more consistent and cohesive leadership instead of showmanship and scrapping, people would have a slightly higher inclination to comply.

    People aren’t following the guidelines

I have noticed that as I was out at the shops today I could see people starting to take it more seriously again. It was in the conversation around me, and people were stepping out of the way a lot more.
