That means 20 admissions so far today
One would expect most admissions to take place in the morning and most discharges to take place in the afternoon.

Which is why we should really only look at the figure once a day and compare like with like.

The numbers are tentatively holding steady, but they also did this at the start of the month before taking a leap up.

His tweet was about last night and numbers are updated twice a day. One would assume the CEO is in the loop or the HSE is a worse state than we ever imagined.

    He should just stop tweeting.

Last Monday he tweeted the HSE is fine, that Thursday we have 10 days to save it.

He should go run some cables and stay off social media.

    Not getting it.
    Never have.
I’m no anti-vax muppet, have all my shots and kids have all of theirs, but they won’t be getting the flu Jab. They are better off getting the flu and and fighting it than some having some man made concoction put up their nose.

People need to stop being scared of getting sick, it’s part of life, and at a young age it helps you establish an immune system and lets your body learn how to fight infection.

If you have a compromised immune system that’s another story, if your getting or have in the last while got chemo, or something serious then it might make sense, but healthy people should be fighting a mild illness like the flu themselves.

I know right what's the big deal !! I say this to people with ebola and HIV. You have to live a little.

For anyone wondering why people are looking at reinfection. It's because the second infection could be much worse. Aided by said antibodies.
Antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE), sometimes less precisely called immune enhancement or disease enhancement, is a phenomenon in which binding of a virus to suboptimal antibodies enhances its entry into host cells, followed by its replication.[1][2] Antiviral antibodies promote viral infection of target immune cells by exploiting the phagocytic FcγR or complement pathway.

It has been observed mainly with positive-strand RNA viruses. Among them are Flaviviruses such as Dengue virus,[7] Yellow fever virus, Zika virus,[8][9] Coronaviruses, including alpha- and betacoronaviruses,[10][11] Orthomyxoviruses such as influenza,[12] Retroviruses such as HIV,[13] and Orthopneumoviruses such as RSV.

This, I considered getting my kids the vaccine for the sake of others that they might come in contact with and then realised that anyone vulnurable would surely be getting the vaccine so I would leave their immune systems fight it. I have not seen anything on it lately but a few months ago I remember reading that 20/30% of people had antibodies to fight covid, possibly from a previous infection of a different virus. Is there anything up to date on that?

It's not exclusively to stop the spread...it's also to reduce the demand on hospital resources. Even if vulnerable people are taking the vaccine, they can still catch covid or have other conditions and need a bed that you may take up because you have flu.

It's not as simple as someone just thinking they are strong enough, not to need hospital care.

Plus if you come down with something not knowing whether it is flu or covid, having to go through the test system for covid etc etc
This year it'd be better to close off one avenue of respiratory infection if we can.

I started working from home over 8 months ago. 217 days ago.

I live in a different county to my family so seeing them has been very limited and the only occasions I have seen them in the last 2 months is a family funeral and month's mind mass. I have seen a number of holidays and momentous celebrations etc cancelled.

It's extremely demoralizing to have followed the rules and guidelines for the last 7 months and now have all sort of fun and excitement be taken away from life currently. Every day has become monotonous, every day is a Monday now. Wake up, go into the room next door and work for the day. The have dinner, clean a few dishes and then go sit on the couch for the night with nothing on TV before going back to bed just to wake up and repeat the cycle again the following day.

No human interaction bar saying hello to the woman behind the shop counter who doesn't know me. Now I can say I am lucky to still be in employment but that cycle is just horrible at the minute.

This current set of guidelines is more demoralizing that the set back in March, April & May. At least back then, we could see an end goal and people were in it together. A short term fix for long term betterment. What's the end goal currently? The reward of being allowed to have a dinner with my family in 70 days time?

Not being invited to a party you wouldn’t want to go to doesn’t burn dude. Lawrences party will probably be a ten spot and a bag of Galahad in a field anyway. Needs to be more sophisticated than that to tempt me, not that I would be because it’s against the guidelines.

NPHET hide behind "giving advice" and then its up to the government to act on the advice, unfortunately they seem to spend their time compiling numbers, not looking at how to keep services running so we can agree what normality now is, they will have now destroyed a whole rake of businesses by the only plan seemingly is to close them.

Cork university hospital report there on Claire Byrne.

People need to be made aware of this ****.

If people don't follow regulations make them stand at the window of a ward and look for 30 mins.

Sick of the bollocks excuses people use to justify their selfishness behaviour.

Again getting the flu vaccine reduces the burden on the health system. CUH had 150 ICU admissions for flu last winter.
You are essentially doing your bit regardless of severity if contracted. In follow on years do what you want. I don't get it every year.
Got a bad flu last year prior to that didn't have it for ~8 years.
I think getting the flu every few years and again actually helps your immune system keep up IMHO. Covid is a different kettle of fish.

Is everyone getting the flu jab?

Booked my 3 year old in with the GP to get his ears checked today. The receptionist immediately said "is it for the flu jab?" before I told her why I was looking for an appointment. So it's a nasal spray, which is grand and I suppose he should get it anyway, but I was a little taken aback by the "oh he should definitely get it. Highly recommended for everyone over two this year" to which I blustered and said "uhhh yeah sure, we could do it at the same time".

Before I knew it I had us all booked in next week for our jabs.

I've never had the flu jab before. Never really seen the point, (though obviously I get it this year).

Is there lots of posters getting it this year that have never gotten it before?

Undecided so far. I normally get it through work, but I reacted badly to last years one and was ill for two weeks. Not sure I want that again.

Imagine being allowed to go to the gym with your ma but God forbid going into her kitchen for a cup of tea. Haha this government is a laughing stock.

I think they lost most people's support and compliance from today onwards.

A ban on visiting households but you can still go to work without a mask and mix with people there (I know of a few places that hasn't gotten their employees wearing masks).

    ?

There was absolutely no reason not to see your friends and family for July and August and for at least part of September if you live in Dublin, longer if you didn't.

    The guidelines allowed for it.

If you locked yourself away, I'm afraid that was your choice and as much as the government are to blame all for certain things, they can't be held accountable for your choices.

But mind yourself and I suggest the next time it opens up, connect with friends and family (safely), it's important.

Celtic vs Rangers and Liverpool vs Everton this Saturday morning. I'd imagine fans that don't have Sky will just shrug and say nothing I can do about it, rather than get bags of cans and hit a mates house!!! :D:D

If you can't see the difference between the two places, then I guess there's no hope with you.
If the government need to cut off the chain of transmission, it's alot better on the economy and people's lives if they keep as many controlled environments open as much as possible.

Household to household transmission is high, catching it a gym isn't as rampant. Your solution, close down all workplaces so you can still have a cuppa with you ma?

    Workers of the world, separate!
You have nothing to lose but your chains (of transmission)
