I had to get it delivered to parcel motel - it was the kids kindle with content so I think that’s the problem

In one of the Amazon reviews someone from Ireland said the free books subscription for kids doesn't work here? Maybe that's the issue? You might have to set a UK delivery address just to get the subscription working.

I just ordered a paperwhite kindle for a teenager. Was v happy with the price, 80 stg, but just looking at the reviews there's a lot of negative ones, about battery life, poor look and feel off it etc. Am a bit worried now, should I just get the normal kindle for half the price?

My bluetooth speaker for the shower is fuzzing like hell these days, any good deals on bluetooth speakers?

I'll have a look myself but I'm not sure what is good or bad.

I have often requested an post rather than a courier. I am so disappointed to hear that.
Couriers never even attempt to deliver to the house they always leave everything in the local shop resulting in dozens of people in and out rifling through scores of packages to find their own, and if they don't have enough parcels to justify coming to the area I get a message saying customer did not give accurate address and couldn't be contacted. The only half way decent experience I had was by accident
I had a very large very expensive stereo delivered before Christmas, few days later I get a phone call from an irate courier (presuming he was annoyed because he had to actually deliver to the house this time) saying hes left a parcel outside the house (rural, so not a problem) when I tried asking him what it was as I had already received the package I was expecting all I got back was garbled shouting and abuse. Result: 2 stereos for the price of one.
My postman on the other hand a dream, if I'm not quick enough to answer the door I find the parcel on the kitchen table (inside the door since covid though) or inside one of the cars or even at my mother's house if I'm not in.

    He sounds like old school.

Just bought slippers and Arms for my monitors - neither of which are in anyway needed

Had ordered the Echo Show 8 and a Ring doorbell yesterday but cancelled both. The reviews on the doorbell concerned me a little, and I realised that I could order the Google Nest for the same price as the Echo Show. And considering both my wife and I have Google phones, and shared libraries on Google Photos, I thought it made more sense.

Need to close Amazon for the rest of the day

Roku express at £18/€20 plus the parcelmotel tax, yay or nay?
Main purpose is for Netflix / Prime on tv in campervan so small tv and mobile data make 4k redundant. Open to alternative suggestions.

1 way too underated feature for the Roku over other streamers is the ability to connect to hotel wifi. You throw this thing in your bag whenever you go on holidays and you font have to worry about netflix etc. For that money its worth keeping one spare to have for this reason alone.

DO all streamers not do this?

I used to take a Chromecast with me for that when travelling with work but there always seemed to be an issue with connecting to the Wifi, AP something something?

Does the Roku handle this differently? Thanks!

Thats a shame, I always re-directed my Amazon deliveries to nearest Post Office for collection as I am never here when they try to deliver.

There is an An Post box that youc an get to accept smaller parcels. Once Amazon get going though you can be sure we will eventually see more of what they are doing in US that allows them to deliver without Porch Pirates. There are drop boxes, leaving in boot of your car etc

yeah just tried on the same card which they asked for my card number again but it went through

No such luck here, topped up by another £100 and no second free £10. Still, £10 free is better than nothing. Planning on spending over £250 in kitchen accessories so every little helps.

Not on Amazon but heres my recommendation
    Cant go wrong with this
    https://www.scan.co.uk/products/kygo-b9-800-smart-speaker-with-google-assistant-chromecast-ipx-7-waterproof-dual-band-wifi-bluetooth

Its waterproof and has Google Assistant built in. great bit of kit.
You also get a free fridge camera (which by the way is useless) and if you try to set up the fridge camera there is an option in the app to get a free WiFi extender.

    RESULT!!

    all in for £30

Keep an eye on Dyson’s eBay Store.. you regularly get good manufacturer-refurbished models for a a fraction of the price of even a good sale. Got a V6 for €150 from them a year or two back - still going strong (albeit only used on stairs since I got robot vacuum.. what can I say, I’m a lazy bastard).

I picked up one around via there @2yrs ago, via a BA here if I recall.
Mine gets v.heavy use and is currently awaiting me fitting it's 2nd replacement battery.
Great unit tho not suited for heavy users unless they are handy with a screwdriver.

Same here, took too long deciding on a couple and missed them

The issue with hotel wifi is having to use a user name and password as opposed to just regular setup and logging in with wifi password. I have quite a few streamers and none of the others can do this as far as I know.

Any recommendations on a soundbar? Was looking at this cheapo one from BOMAKER - £52:
    https://amzn.to/2SSep3b

but wonder how much better this one from Philips would be - £209: https://amzn.to/2SV5k9H

I'm currently just using TV speakers, PS5 will also be used through it. Don't really want to spend any more than £200

From what I remember, you can easily get around this by using your phone or laptop as an access point.

Am sitting here as a postie, who has his first time off this week since February and first I have heard of re us losing Amazon, hopefully this is only for the big cities but hope am wrong on that too.... Word is An Post have lost Smyths Toys too, so this would be complete kick in the you know where.. Amazon would be 80% of our parcels and we do make sure the recipient is informed re where there parcel is.... The couriers are probably under costing An Post but as said in above message, I have seen parcels sopping at front doors, throw them anywhere as long as delivered(we would get written warning for doing that) .. But best was only last week where I landed at house and a dog was chowing on a leather skirt left in package at door by a courier.... Saying that, all couriers are not like that, some seem to change their drivers that often that their under pressure throw the parcels anywhere to speeden things up..
And God help the lads working this weekend, bound to be double the amazon parcels on Saturday for delivery..

Didn't lose Smyths', chose not to keep it.
Smyths' packages are large and light, therefore costly to process due to their size, but not able to charge higher prices..

Heard nothing about Amazon, still processing Amazon items as of September.

Are packages not charged by volume, so as to protect from large light boxes

Of course there’s a limit of 1 per person.

Just a note, to business users i.e people who are VAT registered.
On prime day or indeed any lightning deal, Amazon CHEAT their business customers. They will show the VAT exclusive price, but charge the VAT inclusive price, so effectively if the item is reduced in price on prime day, then you pay MORE than a normal day.
I posted this before, but I still don't know how they can get away with this.

I'll just pick a random item.

    https://ibb.co/48gxRqP

You will see the VAT exclusive price is £127 .49. Any other day of the year, that £127.49 is the TOTAL price a VAT registered business customer would pay. On prime Day, the same customer will pay the full £152.99.

So if an item is reduced in an Amazon sale by say 15%, they actually charge business customers, MORE than before they reduced it. ??????????

Catching up on the thread I've seen requests for WiFi extenders and dash cams. I bought both yesterday but they were lightning deals which have expired. You can search on the app and filter by prime day deals to see what's available.

This annoys me to no end. They have been doing this for years now. I wonder what the vat man thinks about all this?:rolleyes:
