True quality is when you see it in a charity shop for dirt cheap but you buy it and it's still going strong years later

It was something not loved enough to be donated to charity for free, that still performs like a boss for it's new owners

A similar phenomenon applies to certain cars. For example, the early 1990s 1.3 Corolla XLI

A car that was made so well that it could be run for decades by people who could not afford to spend a lot of money maintaining it, and it still keeps going strong and everyone knows it.

    Weight
For certain products, people do equate weight with quality. Some models of beats headphones for example have weights in them to give them a premium feel.

  • Registered Users Posts: 148 ✭✭Sakana

    LOL

Lots of products carry metal or concrete inserts to add weight. Like Beats headphones

My personal favourite is still the Chinese Magical Hard Drives from 2011

    Do not defy me!

That's so stupid. Weight makes them more uncomfortable.

Hey wait a minute. COMFORT! That's it. Comfort = quality.

More than two flushes to get it to go down, you know it was a good one.

    They have decent customer service.

If they're happy to hear about and help you with issues, it's because they know that they are a rare thing with the potential to damage the brand. Any company that is impossible to get a hold of the right person to discuss something with knows they have sh*t to hide from.

A box of quality street. It says so on the tin. Can’t be any clearer.

A pull chain Armitage Shanks toilet. A classic of Victorian design and engineering. Never been bettered to be honest.

Lots of short people and disabled people would disagree with you. Classic Victorian design indeed, to ignore the needs of many people.

A longer chain sorts most of that out.

Small bit of ribbon sewn into the shoulder of a quality made ladies blouse that is use to hold bra straps in place with tiny buttons or snaps. Insanely great idea, but tend to be on pricy clothing. The type of thing with lots of bias binding as well.

You can also buy similar things that are pinned into place, so can be moved from blouse to blouse.

    Ours were Dutch...
The voting machines bought by the government from Dutch firm Nedap were kept in storage as the cabinet pondered what to do after the Commission on Electronic Voting said it could not recommend the system. Approximately €0.5m was spent improving the software. Ahern defended the system despite public scepticism and opposition from within his own party on the basis that having spent the money, it would cause loss of national pride if the system were scrapped.

Not at all, dude. Just extolling the virtues of a classic piece of Victorian era engineering and design.

Lot of very 'bound up' individuals on this website. Might I suggest they get more pulses, legumes, and wholegrains into their diet? Can dramatically improve the situation, and leads to a more rounded and contented individual with far less irritability on display.

    Ours were Dutch...
    [RANT]They were robustly built.

But the hardware was antiquated (lower spec than the Sinclair QL home computer they stopped making in 1985) and the software was a steaming pile of poo.

VISA machines have some features to hinder hacking or reverse engineering. These machines don't.

Spare keys can be ordered separately online for roughly a Euro each by searching for the product number: 115140126 ...
Even if spare keys were not so readily available: this is quite literally the type of lock we can open with a bent paperclip.
    ...
68000 processor that came with 256kBytes of EPROM, 8 kBytes of EEPROM, 16 kBytes of RAM
    ...
The ISS software has a ‘maintenance mode’ ...
A quick look in the binary revealed this password to be “GEHEIM”, the Dutch word for “SECRET”.
    ...
This checksum is a simple addition of all bytes in the EPROM.
    ...
we then managed to compile and run Tom Kerrigan's Simple Chess Program
    ...
This allows for the fraudulent EPROMs to be inserted long before the candidate
lists are known, and it allows a fraudulent ROM to perform the same fraud year after year, even
though the relative position of the party on the keyboard changes.
    ...
tell Nedap they need to incorporate a lock and they pick the
cheapest lock imaginable, tell them to put a seal on it and
they laser print their company logo on some paper labels
    ...
So using only a simple scanner or short-wave receiver, we can tell whether or
not a voter is currently voting for a party or candidate with an accent in the name.

I bought a Leatherman in James Fox's in Dublin, and the guy in the shop said it had a lifetime guarantee. Foolishly I asked is the receipt the guarantee and he said no, it's it's own guarantee. If anything goes wrong with it in its lifetime write to the company and they'll either fix it or replace it.

A few years later, I dropped it, and it got stuck beneath the jackpad of a 4 tonne Anti-aircraft gun(long story). On finding it, it was slightly squashed and wouldn't open properly anymore. Wrote off to Leatherman, and about a month later a replacement arrived in the post.

Thats quality. And quality customer service.

When it has a "By Appointment to" the Royal household.
    That Kenny Everett sketch.

Himself dressed as the Queen and pointing out that "By Appointment" means they actually have to use the stuff. Doing the whole breakfast thing. With so many different cereals that she'd be using a cement mixer.

If you are going to accuse me of something like that, I would like you to be able to back it up. Somehow, I don't think you will be.

Didn’t see your post, R. Apologies, I’m not on the site 24/7 so, as you can imagine, a lot of posts fall through the “cracks” and pass me by.

I think we might have gotten some “wires” crossed here. I never accused you of anything. You were the one who accused that other lad of being a “parody account”. I just thought that was a bit rich considering I thought that you were one, yourself.

No accusation there, just asking a question. I am inferring from your post that you are saying you’re are not a “parody account” and that’s fine. Just the impression I got, is all.

You said that I have issues with women. I don't and I would like to know where you got that idea from.
