Do we think any extra restrictions will be made this coming week?
They seem to want to hang on for the three weeks and just barrack us mercilessly to get a grip, but I reckon from Wednesday on we could see signs of what may happen. All eyes on hospital numbers.

Data, according to the HSE, say they haven't. Couple away for a weekend, attended a few other social activities, 30 cases, café in Cork, 53 cases, GAA team in Louth, 30 cases. All examples of adult behaviour!

Not buying it. The adult activities were happening for months but cases have surged since kids went back to school. There also seems to be a concerted effort to suppress any talk of school cases. It stinks to high heaven.

I'm not normally one for tin foil hats but I just don't see how it can't be having an impact. Maybe I'm wrong but I think there is a strong effort to control the narrative to keep to schools open (which I actually agree with).

I'm the same, I know of 4 people who have been infected, they where all in march, all work in a hospital, and all where asymptomatic.

I've also not seen or heard of one single house party in my estate.

The whole thing is just bizarre and draining.

People are finding it difficult to get through because we seem to be ****ing up on thurles most obvious of things. Track and trace, lack of beds. Allowing people into the country when we had very few cases. All common sense issues........

Surely to **** in these past 6 months we could have built a temporary hospital, even a field hospital like the military use. But no, instead we did ****ing nothing.

HSE staff had to take holidays at some stage. They didn't have the resources during the summer.

In secondary schools a teacher friend has told me that someone sitting either side of a positive case didn't need to be tested as they were all wearing masks and as such weren't close contacts. Another student in the class tested not sitting near the student became symptomatic a few days later and also tested positive. No others in the class tested. Bizarre

There was an article on Cork Beo a few days ago about a school in Cork that had someone who tested positive but as they had no close contacts there were no further tests and it was business as usual, this in a school with 900 pupils and 70 to 80 teachers, I find this bizarre.

If you do that though, is there any way they are going back before Christmas? If the number of new cases comes down people will say opening the schools again will undo all the good work. And if it doesn't there will be a consensus more restrictions are needed on top of the ones already in place.

    That's a fair point.

If you only look at percentage then you should agree a little over 200 cases is decent for Dublin from 1012 nationwide cases

Never said I only look at percentages.

Nor did I speculate whether it was decent or not.

My question purely was about testing and tracing and is that reason for the fluctuations.

Listen we all want this thing gone, but its not as easy as saying let's go to level 5. We will have half a million out of work, people are on the edge already. Good to see someone talking senseHow many will it push over. Locking people in their homes will have a huge impact on people's mental health. There has to be a balance. Will the banks give us breaks again.

They don't test and trace HSE DO. NPHET only advise on the very narrow remit on COVID 19 they have. But of course you know this and I have fallen for your trolling once .More fool me

I'm not saying you're wrong, I genuinely don't know, but there's still the small matter of the large backlog which could change things a bit.

Dublin has been stable for the last 2 or 3 weeks. The move to Level 3 nationwide should help Dublin go down, with fewer people coming in and out of Dublin.

In relation to schools...they are deliberately not including very obvious close contacts. E.g. child tests postive..but teacher isn't included in close contacts because the classroom layout shows the teachers chair is 2 metres away from said positive child...it's absolute BS. Not taking into account the teacher and other children outside the pods have walked around the class and breathed in the same air for 6 hours.
I have genuinely heard of one case where a child was postive and the SNA was not deemed a close contact despite working with and beside that child all day. Why they were not deemed a close contact? Because they were wearing a mask.
So the figures from schools are not accurate in my opinion.
Healthcare workers are not counted as close contacts either if wearing a mask. Not ‘full’ PPE but just a mask according to current advice is enough to not be considered a close contact of patients or other staff in most circumstances with a few exceptions such as having performed an aerosolising generating procedures for example. If another healthcare worker tests positive, not counted as a close contact as should be wearing a mask and performing hand hygiene and keeping 2 metres as much as possible even though could have spent 13 hours side by side. I am not arguing if this is right or wrong, I am just explaining the guidelines and pointing out the same policy is being applied to the SNA as healthcare workers.

Glynn has been asked about it at least twice and that's what they say. Colm Henry has repeated it. They say they are not seeing cases coming from schools but they do not deny cases appearing in schools and it's a low figure. I have no idea what the situation is but I very much buy adults not doing what they should be doing.

It happens in clustered formations generally with this virus so theres probably many people who know very few and others who know large numbers who were infected rather than majority of people knowing of a small few

Aren’t there thousands upon thousands of children from different families mixing in schools every weekday and thousands of workers getting buses, trains etc every workday?
Of course it will get worse before the Government finally get the message that we need to go to Level 5 as Tony Houlihan and Co. suggested last week.

The problem with that is is you are suggesting we will have to stay in Level 5. This can not be done for economic reason mental health reasons. What need to be done are for people to be more careful and start again doing the washing of hands and all the rest. We can still go and meet our mates, let's kids go to school and have a drink and a meal. The one thing I think need to change it to make it mandatory is no working from the office unless the job does not let it or in for a day or 2 if things need doing

I really wish they would start providing details of the spread in a meaningful way which would have a greater chance of resonating with people who aren't getting it.

Instead of close contacts, community transition etc.

    For example:-

50 related to a house party
70 related to mass gathering at the Spanish arch
100 related to gaa match & celebrations
    50 in a meat factory
    90 at a protest
80 in a secondary school etc.

You would need to show that that approach would not lead to multiples of dead and even more lives destroyed.

That could be a big ask.

Would it be fair to say the vast majority of people testing positive are asymptomatic? Any one I know or any famous people that had it had zero symptoms.

The banks won't be giving blanket breaks, it will be a case by case basis on foot of a financial statement.
