Border county too, given that the North appears to have lost control it's bound to affect the bordering regions

There is that too but the numbers being reported from the lab at Cavan general would point towards an outbreak there.

    But yes border too

Well the 1000 marker breached today, don't know what the next milestone marker after that is.

If we had close to 100,000 weekly tests in March, April what would our overall case count be now?

The virus spreads by close contact, especially in indoor places, especially by people from many different households. That is the #1 criteria for the virus spread. That is exactly what schools are. Next to no social distancing, kids on top of each other, going home to infect households, who then infect the rest of society. This is 100% the trajectory.

Schools have not been closed because the government is afraid of angry parents.

    Kids aren't the problem.

Is there any ****ing point in doing any of the measures we are supposed to be doing. I like many have barely seen any family since early March. I’ve stuck to the guidelines but clearly the majority of us doing so means sweet **** all. I mean never mind the financial impact, but mentally I’m sure I’m not the only one who can’t take more of this ****. There needs to be some light at the end of the tunnel. It’s only a few thankfully but I hope those few in this thread who have been basically praying for high numbers are happy.

The problem with a lot of people and posters on here is , especially on this thread , there is a lack of emotion.

Yeah, tbh I think everyone is split on how to handle this. It's disheartening, there will never be a majority consensus like there was in March/April. Society has been almost split into factions.

We've handled it once before, we know what has to be done.

Really do get as much rest as you can. If you are short of breath try lying down and practicing deep belly breathing that should help with the sensation of not getting enough air. Keep an eye on your bpm and blood oxygen levels if the shortness of breath continues. (There are phone apps for this.) And call for medical advice/help if you need it. Make sure you are eating regularly, if you have no appetite just eat at the times you normally would. Stay hydrated. You will almost certainly be fine and recover with rest but don't try to push on or ignore any signs that you do need help.

Thanks for this, gonna try that out tonight. Thanks for all the warm wishes by PM and on thread btw folks, warms my concrete encased heart :D

Gonna get some rest anyways, laters folks.

It's really frustrating that we cannot accurately compare now to April /May to have a real understanding of where we're at.

That number shouldn't really have happened.

Is testing and tracing bollixed up there?

track and trace will continue to not work as long as we are still going back only 48 hours before onset of symptoms as a criteria for a close contact.

Likely to have been lower than today's total due to the restrictions and adherence to them at the time.

Time to pay heed to the advice of the medical professionals and batten down the hatches. Less of Leo's guff.

It is so ridiculous that people re still scared to point at schools. Schools are the exchange hubs for asymptomatic transmission. Data doesn't catch it. Government is using lack of data for its advantage to keep the schools open.

Objective was about sending parents to work, not to ensure learning of kids or their mental health as guv claimed when the schools re-opened.

I had assumed backlog numbers were included in today's high figures, apparently that's not the case? Concerning to say the least.

    You taking the proverbial?

These cases were already build in, whatever the decision made on Monday these cases we have now were going to happen!

    Correct

Infection to positive is usually 6-7 days

All next weeks and a few days after have been seeded already

    They were all too late

    Tony Willis knew that

Hence the Level 5 and over throwing the Government attempt on Sunday night

Were you only expecting them to get 100 or less cases from over 1000 cases reported nationwide?

No he didn’t. Jesus Christ, does there always have to be a big winner and loser?

Leo articulated very well why we weren’t moving to level 5 last week. The measures the government has implemented also haven’t had a chance to work yet. Had they implemented level 5 on Tuesday, we’d still have had 1000 cases today.
From a political perspective, Varadkar has made a big error here. There's a reason why politicians usually waffle rather than criticise officials and the likes of NPHET in an obvious and public manner.

Martin and Donnelly have gotten out of this week relatively unscathed while Varadkar has undermined the government - good enough for him, an obnoxious individual. Thousands of people will have seen his performance on RTE and now a few days later, big headline about 1000+ new cases. The view among Joe Public will be along the lines of, "Jaysus, Holohan was right after all and the poor man had only just come back from caring for his sick wife too".

I'd say we won't be hearing any movie quotations now for a while.

Just to note saying the dept was notified of these cases over the last 24 hours might be different to the issue of swabs and possible backlog of cases.

We'll know tomorrow whether that's the case i'd imagine.

But, I thought Dublin was totally in the clear according to here

Dublin's 7-day total is still lower than last week and the week before that.

What do you mean "aren't the problem" ? If you mean to blame, obviously parents and the government's decisions are to blame, but schools are precisely how this virus is spreading. Absolutely nothing else makes logical sense. Ireland has not exploded into house parties over the last month. Schools are the difference.

Yes it has to be done on them figures, but if you think people will be as observant to the restrictions as April/May you are very mistaken and completely misreading peoples behavioral psychology.

Yeah it has and I think the problem is that some people seem to think there is a right answer here. There isn’t. There are only terrible choices and worse ones. The government are only trying to choose the least **** option.

There is no solution without a vaccine.

Sorry but is the "next two weeks will be critical" a joke i don't get or something :p

I keep reading it. Every week the "next two weeks are critical" lol.

Some weeks are only critical , others are vital....but they're all crucial.

The flu has barely spread anywhere in the southern hemisphere throughout their winter so, no it's not at all inevitable it's going to spread.

Well its always picking up this time. With schools ect back in full swing. Considering clubs are training,.my daughter is playing camogie with 25 kid and they are all mingling. So i see the numbers growing. 1000 and 3 deaths it acceptable to me. Once hospitals are not overwhelmed there's nothing to worry about Unless your vunerable.

    So what the solution?

Close construction, retail, barbers etc which have a very low impact on numbers?

    Close the schools
