Not for a novel virus that’s never been vaccinated for before though.

Swine flu was just another strain of influenza and the vaccine production was fairly straight forward.
That's beside the point, the OP stated the quickest vaccine ever produced was 5 years, I was just stating there was a vaccine created in less than a year for swine flu.

Hospitals numbers going to hit over 200 tomorrow. I think further restrictions likely to be in place by the end of next week.

What’s the probability that 60 kids brought it into school independently?

In Manchester... I wouldn't rule it out tbh. What is the school setup in the UK, have they any precautions in place or is it business as usual like the pubs and restaurants etc..?

Surely they will leave the current measures take effect, taking extra measures when the tide is turning is pointless

Won't happen here. We have a special school-proof Covid.

Was that 7 week lockdown this Summer?

    Or was it last Spring?

If so your having an argument that nobody disagreed with

    Spring, March to May.

It’s not besides the point. It very much is the point.

Ones an entirely new vaccine. The other is just a vaccine for a strain of flu. It’s a very, very different challenge.

It’s like saying it took one year to develop a new purple iPhone vs it took 5 years to develop and invent an entirely new mobile phone OS and platform.

Who is arguing there won’t be or aren’t cases linked to schools?

So 5 months, not 5 years. You should edit your post so.

Clearly in your efforts to be a smart ass you didn't read the full article. Feel free to be at the head of the queue, I won't be wasting further time responding to you.

ICU capacity is more fixed at about 270. We are at 30 from corona atm. The real problem comes from normal hospital stuff which doesn't end.

50 in ICU would probably put us in a position where scheduled procedures like knee replacements, cancer screenings and the like start to be cancelled in large numbers.

Quite a few doom merchants here must be disappointed when the daily case figures aren't as high as they were willing them to be.

Imagine taking perverse enjoyment in escalating numbers, throwing out stuff like 1000+ cases is completely unfounded scaremongering. Childish nonsense.

Remind me of which country in Europe has schools closed right now?

The poster didn't reference what the quickest vaccine was for. He just said the quickest was 5 years.
Both Russia and China have a covid19 vaccine if you want to be accurate.

I didn't know such a test existed that could differentiate between a new infection and remnants of an old one.

That's the information I was given by the nursing home. Perhaps it's a decision made by the lab based on the strength of the second positive result compared to the first result. I honestly don't know and I doubt if the staff in the nursing home would know either. I'm several stages removed from the people who did the testing.

You're a teacher is that correct?

I suppose that would make the users opinion invalid somehow right?

    That wasn't something new.

The current record for the fastest vaccine is 4 years

That didn't end well for quite a statistically significant minority

Theirs evidence it may be stabilizing in Dublin. Its still a high number. Remains to be seen especially in the rest of country

    Numbers taking so long today

It's not unfounded considering swab numbers yesterday of over 800 and 947 today. Numbers are rising and there's likely to be a considerable backlog which is going to dump a record number of cases on people today or in the coming days, it's better for folks to be prepared.
