Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

We are back for more folks. This time we keep it home, which is apt I guess, as we turn our attention to the Emerald Isle. As you may know, 32 counties should translate to 32 entries which is a perfect number for these... and ultimately it will be. Before we get there though, we have to decide which landmark or scenery will represent each county.

    To do this, I'm gonna need your nominations. Two rules for this process;

    - All nominations must be via PM.

    - You may nominate up to 5 entries per county.

    - Each county will have its own qualifier, with the winner advancing to the tournament proper.

Nominations are being accepted starting now. Get submitting!

You can enter as many as 5 per county if you like, so 160! Some qualifiers are going to be insanely stacked such as Dublin. Others might uncover some gems we've never heard of. Then we might get a few that straddle county boundaries which could make it even more interesting.

Looking forward to getting these noms in.

We might start this tomorrow evening friends. If you are debating whether or not to send in nominations... I say do it! Every piece of the island will be represented, even Monaghan. Don’t miss your chance to get yours included.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,127 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

Poor old Monaghan, one of the only counties I couldn't remember or find anything landmarky from :pac:

My feeble 10 just posted - I feel a bit like I felt when I hadn't done my homework :o.

Received those Purgative and they’ve been added to the nominations list

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

186 nominees are in so far.

As metioned, there will be county qualifiers for any county which recieved more than one landmark nomination. Some counties with higher numbers of nominations will have preliminary stage bouts and then a play-off to decide the county representative.

After that, it will be the 32 counties of Ireland going at it in single one-on-one knockout matches which will be randomly drawn.

Nice neat average of 6 per county (excluding Monaghan ;) )

Ha ha ha spot on, poor Muineachan getting the least love... along with one other county. I’ll reveal no more at the moment.

Just for fun and as a side bet with no spoilers, why dont we all state what Province we think the ultimate winner will come from. I’m torn but I’ll plump for Ulster.

I think Ulster too. Though Munster with an outside chance maybe.

Looking forward to kicking this off this evening.

    Had a PM from someone saying they have a Leinster winner in mind. So prediction-wise (provinces only!) that’s;

    2 x Ulster
    1 X Leinster

I'll predict Munster to be different (but Ulster is rightly the bookies favourite, has to be Monaghan)

PS For purposes of preliminaries, nominations for Co. Kerry are now closed.

I will sit out on the nominations as I haven't been around Ireland a lot.
But really looking forward to discover some beautiful places to visit in the future!! :)

Leinster by way of numbers must be the favourites, I will pick them

Right lads and lassies, before we get a start on the action let's lay some rules down. There are 200+ landmarks and scenic viewpoints here for us all to take in and this is how it's gonna happen.

A landmark must come through a qualifier before it gets the honour of representing its county. Any county which received 8 or more landmark nominations will be divided into two mini groups. These two groups form two preliminary matches, with the winners from both going into a County Play-off decider. From there, the 32 counties of Ireland will be represented and will duke it out in a single elimination knockout tournament.

    - Preliminary bouts will have a time limit of 15 minutes.

    - Qualifying matches/county play-offs will have a 20 minute time limit.

    - We will be going through the list alphabetically.

    - You are required to select one winner from each match. Any reasons given will be taken into account in the event of a draw.

Great start, some really beautiful landmarks.
Both the rope bridge and the castle look lovely.

But I will vote for the obvious, The Giant's Causeway. I'm always impressed by places that are a result of nature, with no interference from humans.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,127 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

Gotta be the Rope Bridge though Giants Causeway and Madman's Window are rather spectacular.

But... GOT fanboy here so Rope Bridge for the win, a majestic landmark.

Ah, quiet start. I'll change to the Causeway. I was just being stupid but don't want to actually ruin the competition :p

causeway. H&W cranes a close second given the history, but the Causeway is timeless, and iconic

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,511 ✭✭✭Purgative

    Wow that's a strong set.

Rope bridge - I'm just fascinated by it and would I have the nutz to go across it.
