Leaking a letter to the press without consultation with the elected Govt or the HSE was an appalling misjudgement on the part of NPHET.

Severe recommendations that will impact the entire country in a really adverse way needs to be questioned.

If they had answers to the questions we'd be in Level 5 now but they couldn't give simple answers.

Again, we don't know where the letter was leaked from.

The scary thing is this guy was elected to office.

Imagine a savage like that making important decisions.
    Lord help us all.

So you think it was the government or HSE that leaked it?

Any party who had the letter could have leaked it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,979 ✭✭✭mightyreds

The whole "we have the strictest restrictions" line is false.
The fact there is no enforcement means that recommendations are pointless.

Will we jump back above the UK now from tonight?

I'm sure numbers will start dwindling as attendees are struck down with this deadly and dangerous disease. Same as all the BLM protestors, all the beach goers, all the bank holiday gatherers.

Spectacular failure of community spread numbers, now and then, by you.

They didn't publicly release their recommendations.

They haven't done anything to plug continuous leaks over the last few months either though.

And then what? Well Level 3 is working so don't go to Level 5 for starters

My point is this will be a never ending sequence of restrictions, ease , restrictions , ease ... etc ...

vaccine won't help, even if it's distributed to everyone, 50% max efficacy , less with people over 70 (which is who we want it to work most with ... )

Most countries going the same way. Would have thought it would bee a bit closer to mid winter than this before we see a resurgence. The north situation is bad.

Two deaths in Glasgow? Oh my fapping god, Christ on a stick, absolutely insane numbers. Best off to lock the entire country of Scotland down including the islands and regions where there is no or hardly any virus, just in case. The jocks can forget about walking 500 miles anywhere ever again.

Paddy I genuinely enjoy your posts.

What a dopey prick. Now anyone following politics knows how much of a gombeen that clown is, but he owes the CMO an apology for asking where he's been.

McGrath is being ridiculed because he doesn't have an accent like Leo, is from rural Ireland etc. The superiority attitude you have calling someone a dopey prick. You want all public reps to sound have mid Atlantic/West Brit accents and then they're acceptable. A bit of news for you, Stephen Donnelly sounds ok but hasn't a notion.

Nothing he says here is false. The Big Tony did arrive like John Wayne. And, in the context of coming back and trying to radically change how we are dealing with the virus, McGrath was right to point out Ronan Glynn had been dealing with the crisis for the last number of months and was totally undermined.

Tony is not some deity that can't be questioned.

In what way is the UK policy stricter than ours? There's a lot of data, not easily digest and the last consolidation report for Europe that I found is from September.

The OxCGRT project calculate a Government Stringency Index, a composite measure of nine of the response metrics.

The nine metrics used to calculate the Government Stringency Index are: school closures; workplace closures; cancellation of public events; restrictions on public gatherings; closures of public transport; stay-at-home requirements; public information campaigns; restrictions on internal movements; and international travel controls.

You can explore changes in these individual metrics across the world in the sections which follow in this article.

The index on any given day is calculated as the mean score of the nine metrics, each taking a value between 0 and 100. See the authors’ full description of how this index is calculated.

A higher score indicates a stricter government response (i.e. 100 = strictest response). If policies vary at the subnational level, the index is shown as the response level of the strictest sub-region.

It’s important to note that this index simply records the strictness of government policies. It does not measure or imply the appropriateness or effectiveness of a country’s response. A higher score does not necessarily mean that a country’s response is ‘better’ than others lower on the index.

    Go crazy. Here's how it's calculated. https://github.com/OxCGRT/covid-policy-tracker/blob/master/documentation/index_methodology.md

By the middle of next year, there will be no restrictions and life will be back to normal. People will have run out of patience with any restrictions by then, and will want to lead their lives. And the vaccine will dim the worst effects. The virus is bad, but nowhere near fatal enough to lead to ongoing restrictions for ever.
