I'm not sure why you would expect randomers on teh interwebs to have more and clearer information than the government's own sources. It's unclear is all I can say.

Will there be extra restrictions to Level 3?I am thinking in particular about house parties and the sale of alcohol from off licenses.

I am not saying there are any guarantees of course there aren't. But the fright of possible level 5 might wise a few people up, hopefully along with the Gardai cracking down

Wishful thinking. Let's see how things go.

The one line that stood out for me was “It’s about protecting lives and protecting livelihoods” and that to do one you have to do the other. No one wins by signing 200k people onto the dole tomorrow.

It’s been discussed here so much but finally the discussion about hospital capacity and improving it seems to have entered the political and media sphere.

    Goldengirl -

Are Covid ICU cases now a specialism in themselves? Speicifc drug cocktails etc. Could there be fast tracking of training different to other ICU cases e.g. post-op?

Level 3 won't work. The experts have said as much.
It depends what their aim is, if they can slow spread down while not wrecking the countries economy.

What other comparable countries have gone to the equivalent of level 5 and it worked?

New Zealand for one is in zero way comparable.

Level 5s aims would not work either imo.
We have open airports, and much more worryingly a basket case in northern ireland where they don't seem to have the money to push any kind of a stronger lockdown. Plus the main party is more keen to be seen to follow what the rest of the UK are doing above anything else.

Richard Boyd Barrett speaking a lot of sense here.

Has he just admitted he's a paranoid little politicker??

No. There has been no mention of prohibition of the sale of alcohol.

The day the government abandoned the elderly and those most at risk. Disgusting.

So the rest of the country goes to level 3,
Does that mean pubs and restaurants are closed and can only do takeaway or outside dining a la dublin (level 3.5) or are we at proper level 3 with pubs and restaurants open with added restrictions?

Is there an answer to the above question on this forum or is it sniping and bitchy comments only on this forum?

I'm not going looking for it but it was answered earlier. And it's readily available on copious news sites
However, there will be no indoor seating permitted in pubs. Instead there will be a maximum of 15 patrons allowed outdoors.

100s of thousands of people health is been put first by not going to level 5

    Experts disagree.

    I don’t.
But maybe I missed the part where they clearly announced the above information and someone on here might have heard that bit.
    That ok with you yeah?

Any synopsis of Claire Byrne to save me the agony?

Just more glad-handing and excuses I assume... Hope it works out for the government. If not, hope they react in a timely fashion. It's a wreckless gamble.

To summarise, because we didnt go to level 5 and we cant get hysterical about going to level 5, we had to get hysterical that the Government dont agree with NPHET, and find guest that would add to the hysterics.
Thankfully the same guests are like broken records so it was a safe bet booking them in no matter what happened.
    End of summary

i think the irish independent guy said it best: "it's between the old and the business people now"

the country is divided almost 50 50 on it.

sad that it's come to this.

Goverment had plenty of time last night to call in NPHET last night and reassure people at least no level 5 and Donnelly or Leo did not answer this. If they did this at the quickest time why did he take until 9PM the next night for any thing. The leak was a disgrace but so was Governments non action

    Gov.ie contradicts this:

Bars, cafes and restaurants (including hotel restaurants and bars)
    Additional restrictions for indoor dining.

Wow! I just watched Varadkar's interview and, boy, has he gone up in my estimation. He was truly statesmanlike. It's a pity he isn't working in tandem with Jim O'Callaghan instead of MM.
