NPHETs only real motivation right now is to stop Covid. They don’t care about at what cost.

They didn’t even consult the HSE about hospital capacity.

They leaked the level 5 thing to the media to put pressure on the government.

It's not a power grab by NPHET/HSE in my view. There's no need. The current and previous Government have already handed over much of the decision-making process to them anyway.. although that balance may shift dramatically after the last 24 hours!

The motive is to cover several points...

- They don't KNOW how many are actually infected/dying FROM CV-19 (watch the videos on the Michael McNamara thread)

- Despite the (successful) public efforts to "flatten the curve" in April, they have squandered that time bought. They should have been ramping up and preparing for the autumn/winter months when the health system is under additional pressure anyway every year - instead they've done nothing!

This is why they're finger-wagging daily and threatening more restrictions. Because (not for the first time!) they have completely failed to manage the healthcare of this country.

There will be Tribunals and Inquiries when this is all finally over, mark my words.

If we knew that, there wouldn't be so much confusion.
But watching the likes of McConkey and Glynn over the last few weeks, I believe that they're focus on "Zero Covid" has become almost ideological in nature.
Their behavior may be an attempt to force the government into this strategy regardless of the chances of success.

Obviously this is just conjecture.
Their real reasons may be completely different to anything we think.
But they have been undermining government announcements for a while now - i.e. they had turned the 5 point plan into a farce mere hours after it had been announced.

The govt "living with covid" plan is pointless if indoor dinning gets banned in the entire country.

Also - will we be the first EU country to do that post May this year?

Level 3 refers to bars and restaurants remaining open but with further restrictions. I reckon the further restrictions are what we are seeing in Donegal. Outdoor for no more than 15.

And if that's what he's worried about, he's deluded. If we follow Nox's line of thinking, it will be well into next year before things are back to normal. I'm starting to realise that people like Nox think that a highly restrictive lockdown will have this under control in mere weeks. Others realise that even if we did that, it will not be resolved that quickly so we need to figure out how to move forward and find ways to live with the virus until a vaccine materialises.
