Just wondering if i should call my GP. Basically I have a head cold the last 2 days. Slight sore throat and a runny nose with a few sneezes here and there. I don't have a fever, don't have a cough, no impact on taste or smell either. I don't want to be ringing GPs if it's totally unnecessary, I'm sure they're under enough pressure. But I want to do the right thing.

Or test taken wrong. I'm just finding it all so weird with being in contact with a positive case and then symptoms.
Why do you find it weird?

    So for information's sake:

    Was exposed to a since-confirmed case 16th-18th.

Was informed of this on the 21st and HSE contacted. HSE booked me tests too far away from my home to get to so had to be reorganised.

Got a home test 25th. Got negative result this morning, the 27th.

Ring your GP. You will not be wasting their time. FWIW, I had symptoms similar to yours and he arranged for a test (I was negative) . The only way to know for certain is to get a test. Let your gp make the decision if it's necessary.

    Just back from being tested.

For anybody worried about having it done, it was absolutely fine.

The swab is surprisingly thin, I was expecting it to be like a regular sized cotton bud. It is actually like a very thin brush that you use to clean between you teeth.

Not painful in the slightest, and over in 3 seconds. No lingering sensations in the nose after it either.

Just have to wait on results now.

That was my experience as well.

Issue seems to be when you get swabbed by someone who has been reassigned from a different area and unnecessarily pushes it up too far.

Got the text that I'm being tested this afternoon at 4:30pm. Reassuring that a couple of commenters above said the swab was fine, I am overthinking it a little bit and I've gone into full wuss mode, overall I'm fine just a bit nervous of the actual testing procedure!

Hi oymyakon, it really isn’t that bad , just tell them your nervous, it’s better to get the test over and done with. Best of luck

the test is really easy. Maybe 5 seconds of discomfort and you're done. I got it done and got my negative result text 25 hours later

I just found out that someone I was in contact with last Saturday 19th is a confirmed case. However, when the HSE followed up on Thursday they didn’t ask for my details cause we weren’t in contact within 24 hours (they’re asymptotic). Very worrying and while I understand the HSE aren’t going to follow up should j go out of my way to be tested? I live with vulnerable aged people and work in an office (been sent home once I told them). Very anxious

    When were they tested?

No reason for work to be sending you home.

They got tested Friday and confirmed positive yesterday evening. They where a close contact of a confirmed case, the HSE just took names from the previous 24 hours and took it from there.

Going by the criteria you shouldn't have been sent home from work as you aren't a close contact.

How long are you expected to stay at home by work?

I was just told to contact my GP and see if I should be referred for a test. However I won’t be able to get one based on the usual criteria, but confused myself.

GP can only refer you for a test if you meet certain criteria. Knowing someone 3ho is positive isn't a reason. Need to talk to the boss about it as it appears that they are misinformed.

It feels like the build up of a giant sneeze. No pain, just an intense sensation and it's all over very quickly.

Done and dusted, did find it unpleasant because I'm a wimp but at least it was a very quick process :)

I was tested 48 hours ago in Ringsend... Still no word yet. Me and my dog are very impatient to leave the house....

    Just for timeframes:

Got negative result 52 hours after test in Ringsend. Hurrah. Still coughing but now I know its a chest infection. Test was arranged 24 hours after contacting GP. Test was fine, not painful at all.

Not looking forward to the winter games of - Cold, Flu or COVID?

Had a head cold last week, rang my GP Wednesday, got referred for a test at 10.35am Thursday, results back at 3.30pm Friday - negative thankfully.

Wages deducted in work for the 2 days which i find to be bad form - following guidelines doesn't pay i guess!

First and last time i shall be doing it so!

My GP scheduled me in for a covid text. I got a text within a hour but the time of the test didn’t suit so I followed the instructions and asked to reschedule the time. I got a text within 2 mins saying my test has been cancelled.

Anyone know when I will get my new test time?

Went for a Covid19 test today. Pretty good experience. Rang my doctor at 10 explaining my symptons and she said I qualified for a test so she said I'd get a text with a time for today. Got it after 15 minutes for 2pm. Given PPE pack on arrival (2 masks, pack of tissues to clear nose and a booklet explaining the procedure). Went in, had my throat swabbed and then the thing in the nose which was very uncomfortable for about 10 seconds, they put it well in! Staff were very nice and helpful.

    Awaiting result now.

Hope your result is a negative one, the waiting for the results is intense especially if you’re a worrier like me

Don't think it should have been 'cancelled' and wait for another time. Well when I had to change my daughters I could go in, choose date/time doesn't suit or something and clicked that. A list of times came up and I just clicked and confirmed new time. Text straight through saying rescheduled test at x time. Though this was a few weeks back. Thought it was dead handy

Just spoke to GP and I'm being referred for a test.

Think I'm making a fuss over nothing, I have a sore throat, intermittent cough and am all congested. No temperature. In normal times I'd say its just a bit of a cold and would power through, wouldn't even miss work.

    Very nervous now.

A lot of doctors just playing it safe and sending everyone for a test, why not if the capacity is there. I had exact same symptoms to you this past week, test came back negative. Look after yourself :)

    Very nervous now.

Try not to be nervous, it's very quick and while I thought it was a bit unpleasant, I'd do it again right now no bother. It's over in a few seconds.

Have a test lined up for Monday at the Sports Surgery Clinic ahead of some minor surgery on Thursday. I'll need to self isolate between the two

I had another daycase procedure there yesterday - no test needed but they took my temperature to confirm what a cold b*stard I am...

Had the test done, was mildly unpleasant, made my eyes water a bit and feel like sneezing. Was grand though.

Very impressed with the set up and efficiency all round, in and out in a shade under 10 mins, with a goody bag of ppe in hand.

Not bad doing considering I only rang my GP at 10 am today!

They said I will be text the result within 24 to 48 hours.
