Oh I'd read that already. Shame on those posters above who tried to intimate that Cortoon/the player had concocted a false story. No one would bother making up such a story given the current circumstances.

    Delighted that they won.

Let's have no more word on the street speculative posts without the full facts in place.

In a Covid 19 era we should have the ability to take it in good faith that in such a scenario a postponement was sought for the greater good of public health and not go down the less travelled seeking advantage rabbit hole.

Players have a right to not have their reputation besmirched by groundless allegations.

It doesn't get more satisfying than Dunmore getting spanked yesterday.

Its bad enough to behave like they did, but then to try and camouflage what they had done by slandering Varley and his club as having invented a covid close contact case is simply incomprehensible.

    I wish them continued failure.

Didn’t come themselves in glory but a competent county board would have handled it. Varley robbed of a chance to play in a county final by the doing the right thing

Where did Dunmore slander Varley and say he invented a covid case? Did the club release a statement saying such? I must have missed that..

Who would be regarded as favourites for Co Final?....follow club football in Connaught and know that Mtbellew-Moylough had run Corofin reasonably close for last few years before the win in this years semi.

I would rather have seen the Club All Irelands series continued this year and leave off having any inter- county Championships at all.....but that's just my own personal opinion.

Mountbellew have to be favourites after beating Corofin.

However, Moycullen have been massively impressive this year and I fancy them to win.

Agree with the above, MM have to be decent favs but there's a momentum train behind Moycullen and I do kind of fancy them. Thought both teams were kind of blessed to beat Annaghdown in the group tbh. Kinda shows what we've been missing out on the past few years, it's a real cracking championship if Corofin aren't in there

I think Moycullen might edge it too. That Paul Kelly appears to be living up to the hype of being better than his brother, who is no slouch by any means.

Fancy Toms to put together enough to pip Turlough. They've showed signs they can definitely be caught but I can't imagine they'll let Sean Loftus run the game the same way Loughrea did.

Just a heads up that it appears you need to buy two separate Beosport packages to watch the hurling and the football. That said €20 for 3 finals is not the worst value.

Moycullen beat M/M in the group as well. Hard to know if that will give them the edge or not. If both teams produce what they're capable of it should be a cracking final.

Great quality in this year's Championship overall you'd have to say. Corofin being beaten should give the Championship a new lease of life next year too with them hoping to win it back and every other team now realising it's not impossible to beat them.

Intermediate has been brilliant as always with so many teams capable of beating each other on a given day and the Junior Championship has been good quality as well.

I wouldn't read much into the group game tbh. Result of that match had zero impact on the knockout stages. I know M/M rested a few for that match.

As you said it's after breathing new life into the championship that corofin are gone. Let's hope it will be an open match. M/M by 2/3.

Brilliant to see the much maligned Connemara get a senior winner. Dessie Conneely was absolutely immense.

You'd hardly call Moycullen Connemara, its only 6 or 7 minutes out from town. You don't hit connemara till you're past oughterard.

Adrian Varley should be ashamed the way he conducted himself in the intermediate final. Should have been given the line twice in extra time.

    What did he do?

Clotheslined Shane Walsh twice when he was attacking on the half way line. Its a blight on the game at this stage. A black card even if it was given is not sufficient sanction. The ball should be advanced to the 21 for cynical fouls of that nature. Anything inside the D should result in a penalty. The ref in this case was completely gutless. Blew the final whistle after another Cortoon player hit a KC player high as well.

If the ref adjudicated correctly and black-carded him for the first one, then the madness at the end need not have happened. KC, who ran out of steam as the c'ship reached it's final stages, had to work so hard for their scores in the second half, and just didn't have the finishing quality of the winners. Cortoon could be the Fulham of Galway football, good enough to go up but so often clinging on to Senior status; not bad though for a half-parish club with limited playing resources.

The Senior finals gave plenty of honest endeavour and good entertainment. Both perhaps hinged on misses at key stages. Turlough' put in a lot of hard work in the opening spell and were in a good position at ht, 1 point off with a strong breeze to come. St. Toms dug in though, as they so often do, and, led by the 2 Cooneys with Fintan Burke having a fine second half, were still level with 10 minutes left. Turlough', who had a few bad wides, finally took the lead in the closing stages through a Sean Linnane point. The same player then missed a golden opportunity to wrap it up when he missed his easiest chance of the lot from close range. A 2-point lead then with the aid of the elements and their dogged defence playing pretty well would surely have seen Turlough home. Toms accepted the lifeline and economical shooting saw them over the line and an unprecedented three-in-a-row. Both 'David' Burkes were quite subdued, with Daithi carrying an injury and now a doubt for county action, if there will be any.

In the football final, for 25 minutes M/M gave a great display into the elements and led by 3 as the half reached a conclusion. A great move saw wing-forward Leo Donnellan (?) crash the underside of the crossbar - a goal then would have left Moycullen with an Everest to climb. They survived, and led by irrepressible captain Dessie Conneely, went in level at half time. Once the they hit the lead in the second half, they went from strength to strength. Despite M/M levelling with a peno, they wouldn't lead again, and while Moycullen's big players finally powered into it, M/M's went the opposite direction and faded. They badly missed the injured John Daly also who would probably have shored up their exposed centre which folded when ran at. As said, Conneely, led like a warrior, with stout assistance in particular from Sean Kelly. A great day for them and a shame there had to be restrictions on attendance.

The two senior games were wierd. Both MM and Turlough played much better into the wind than against. Both chose to play aimless balls into the attack with the wind at their backs. Turlough in particular threw it away. At least Moycullen brought real pressure to bare on MM. Turlough just played into Thomas's hands by either lumping ball down on top of Fintan Burke or taking speculative shots from their own half. Particularly after they had been so methodical in working it forward in the first half. The second was a complete capitulation in terms of tactical discipline. They seemed to panic after losing Daithi.

Technically Moycullen is in Connemara I believe. Dessie even said they were taking the cup back to Connemara. Although most would think of Moycullen as a satellite town of Galway city these days. I know many of the road signs up there are still in Irish even though there wouldn't be a whole pile of Irish spoken out there relatively speaking. The club themselves still issue team sheets in Irish as far as I know.

The ref bottled out of giving two black cards to Cortoon towards the end. Gave them carte blanche to continue some reckless tackling as KC pushed for an equaliser. You could sense a row brewing because the ref wouldn't do his job right.

Then he threw the ball up and another KC player got a belt and he blew the final whistle and ran off the pitch.

Should have given Varley an earlier black card for sure.

However, think he was right to throw the ball up. KC retaliated to the challenge. Ball always gets thrown up in that scenario. Actually thought a straight red was a bit harsh for Varley (2nd yellow was more appropriate). The KC number 3 definitely deserved to go for his kick. Missed what the other Cortoon lad did.

Thought the ref should have played another minute though. The fight lasted about a minute (or more) and surely he was going to give them that attack before Varley milled Walsh. Unless he was afraid that KC would score a goal and the Cortoon lads would be after him!

Thing is it wasn't a dirty or bad tempered game at all but when he refused to black card players for black card offences in the final minutes it wound up the KC players. Then Walsh was clotheslined yet again and it all kicked off. Mayhem.

The Ref was the cause of all the hassle and hadn't the balls to stand around and make another tough call in the end by sending another Cortoon player to the line for a strike to the face. Instead he blew the whistle and scurried off in case things got more heated after all the heat was of his own making. he was horribly poor thoughout so its no wonder he lost control in the end.

Yeah, sometimes you might see a ref give a couple of cards early in a match for harmless enough stuff and people will be shouting at him. But it actually might have the effect of keeping the match clean as players know they wont get away with being dirty.

I might be in the minority but I enjoy a good scrap in a match :). And it's nice to see the players shaking hands with each other 1 minute after the fight!

Scrap is one thing. Cowardly head high hits are another. I know Walshs hair cut is cat but he didn't deserve that.

Don't entirely agree. Turlough' still got a number of their scores in the second half by working the ball through the phases. Their main problem was that, Linnane aside, none of the other forwards produced sustained spells of play and were meeting the stickiest set of backs they encountered all championship. Their FF in particular I thought was poor, perhaps Fergal Moore might have been moved in there to curb Burke's dominance. In hindsight, the apparently wider spaces of Pearse stadium may have suited them moreso than Athenry.
